This video is pushing me to buy a DAP for the first time in my life not an entry level one but an endgame one Sony nwm1zm2 i am tempted to buy it but I need more reviews.
Check out our reviews on both of the new Sony players: www.moon-audio.com/sony-nw-wm1zm2-walkman-music-player-review www.moon-audio.com/sony-nw-wm1am2-walkman-music-player-review Let us know if you have any other questions! :)
I’m literally just getting into serious audio and I appreciate these perfectly timed videos. Very excited to pick up one of the new Sony walkmans next month.
I agree. It would seem that mobile phone is sufficient for playing music, but I can attest that DAP sounds way better. Especially when we play files from SD card and bypass Android system. In a nutshell, DAP is a compact HI-Fi system. It’s like having multiple components in one. I’m a happy owner of iBasso DX240
I'm picking up a Sony WM-NX707 next month when it arrives to the US. Should be pretty good! My DSD files are over 1 GIG a song 🤯 Would love to see a review from you guys if possible
These Music streaming videos are very informative. I am anxiously waiting for the 103 video, because I am not really sure to as what different pieces of equipment are are needed for a great sounding Living room system, other than a great set of speakers.
Is a DAP apable to play dap through a home stereo receiver? (either via bluetooth or hard wired in) Never owned a DAP. I just use my phone for streaming.
Yes, just add a Mini to RCA cable to any DAP to connect it to your home stereo. Take a look at the Blue Dragon Portable Mini Cable here: www.moon-audio.com/blue-dragon-portable-mini-cable-v3.html 🙂
I've given up on all DAP and most dongles. I just got an iphone se. No DAP compares to the interface and reliability of an apple device. Combined with a portable amp like the dragonfly cobalt. I'm just fine with it. Only thing i dont like is the lightning port is wonky and a slight bump disconnects because of the slight heaviness of the dongle amp.
Apple's high-res does sound good, but we prefer Qobuz's sound, library, playlists, and extra options like news, articles, info, and overall UI. It just offers more than Apple does in our opinion.
@@moon-audio Thank you for your answer. You do a great job! Now I just need to decide wether I'll stick to my Questyle M15 or invest in a DAP for my Grado GH2.
@@moon-audio I was wondering if I could stream TH-cam music with a dap that would use the daps system sound? I have got the ibasso DX320 and clueless when it comes to tech. Noel
@@noelsetterington648You could do that with a DAP and Apple Music. I have two daps, one has streaming capabilities but I often download the music over the network to maintain the highest quality.
Will a dap sound better than even if I’m just steaming songs from Spotify or do I have to download high res music files to notice a difference in sound quality?
I've got a complicated issue. I need either a DAP or a USB DAC to stream music to an Audison F8.9 DSP in my car. The DSP only has an Optical Toslink input, and therefore I need an Optical Output on the DAP/USB DAC........and to ensure it outputs light....whereas the A&K SR35 that I was thinking is analogue only on its 3.5mm output jack.......any ideas?
The Astell&Kern SR35 can, in fact, output an optical signal via mini-Toslink through the 3.5mm plug. We can even make you a custom Silver Dragon Toslink Digital Cable if you're interested: www.moon-audio.com/silver-dragon-toslink-digital-cable.html 🙂
What is best way to hook up my Sony zx707 to my integrated amplifier at home and in the car? For the car do I hook up via usb or aux input? For home and integrated amp I tried hooking it up via headphone jack to rca cable but I had to crank the volume on the dap and the amp to max to hear any sound. What did I do wrong?
Using the Aux is the best option in both scenarios since then you are using the DAC and amp of your DAP. When you use the usb output you are bypassing a lot of the DAPs internals . There is still a benefit when using the USB port, but it's not as ideal as the Aux in most situations. Cranking the volume up on the DAP to fully is to be expected when using the Aux output. Needing to crank the Amp to max level is a bit unusual! For more specific troubleshooting tips you can reach out to us here: www.moon-audio.com/contact-us
Any big difference streaming Bluetooth music ,tidal, between a DAP and a mobile phone with same codecs(Aptx Hd, Ldac) as the DAP is not using his Dac.??
This DAP has better processing and full MQA decoding. so as a Bluetooth source it would be an improvement for your digital signal over using a phone. Since Bluetooth is a digital signal though it would be bypassing the DAC. Streaming to the DAP is better than streaming from the phone to the DAP as Wifi signals are often higher quality than Bluetooth out from a phone! Can a DAP work in the car through a Head Unit's USB port? I want streaming wifi high res, and not static pre-downloaded files. Do any of the DAPs do that? If so, how do they connect to the internet in my car? Do DAPs have phone numbers? Or are they only for playing pre-downloaded static playlists? Because if so, that's a deal breaker for me and it is why I'd go with a phone even with inferior dac. What I want is something easy as siriusxm but in hi-fi up to 192khz 24 bit streaming on-demand from the internet. I'm not crazy about dongles on my phone either. It's also my understanding that in my case the dac doesn't matter as the audio going into my Kenwood Excelon via usb will always get processed by the internal dac of the Head Unit...whether that's good or bad. What I want is an internet access box instead of satellite like siriusxm, but that stays connected to my car audio. I don't like to have to plug and unplug my phone for music in the car either. Anybody know of what I need?
Found your videos, in the attempt to figure out how to connect an external drive to a 'living room' streaming device. I bought a Wiim Ultra to dip my toes into the water, but could never figure out how to get audio from the laptop to play on the Wiim & returned it. My goal is to have all my FLAC files available to the streamer. I think I need JRiver, Roon, or some other software to manage the library. I'd rather not have a subscription. Have you done a video that discusses these topics? I've searched your channel but am not seeing it.
If the DAP in question runs on Android OS (like most newer Sony, Cayin, and iBasso DAPs do), chances are good you can download the TH-cam app via the Google Play Store and stream videos with ease directly on your player! 🙂
A terrific option at that price is the iBasso DX170. www.moon-audio.com/ibasso-dx170-dap-music-player.html If you wanted to move up the line a bit the Astell and Kern SR35 is also fantastic. www.moon-audio.com/a-norma-sr35-dap-music-player.html You're more than welcome to contact us at moon audio if you'd like to discuss this more in depth. www.moon-audio.com/
In that price range, we'd recommend the following for the Focal Utopia 2022: + Astell&Kern KANN Ultra: www.moon-audio.com/kann-ultra-music-player-dap.html + Sony WM1AM2: www.moon-audio.com/sony-nw-wm1a-high-resolution-walkmanr.html + Cayin N7: www.moon-audio.com/cayin-n7-hi-res-music-player-dap.html However, please reach out to us here so we can provide you with a more personalized recommendation: www.moon-audio.com/contact-us 🙂
So the 44.1kHz is technically 16bit, but yes the DAPs remove any audio limitations found in stock Android phones. Most DAPs we carry can support up to 32bit 768kHz PCM files!

Im confused when you state you're not going go waste your breath on the Apple Dongle. It measured very well in all reviews and is known as being amazing value, especially when you're recommending hundred dollar usb dacs. Which confuses me because daps like the M0 Pro, etc. which is $130 bucks do much more than usb dacs and are just as small, and are also dacs. I love A & K but installing apps is not it's selling point, as it's limited on apps versus say an open android system that by-passes the Andeoid resampling using UAP. The LG V60 is a phone that also does very well and is being sold on Amazon for less then $300 refurbished.
Blows my mind how useful all of your videos are. I am new to this as I type and have no questions. Just let your videos do their thing. Thanks so much
