I took this opportunity of my old account being gone now to finally re-translate this song.
Notes:
1) The kanji ' 蟲' ('mushi') stands for worms as well as for insects. It might refer to the way the protagonist feels - worthless, disgusting, like an insect.
2) This song is most likely from the point of view of a woman. The narrator refers to themself as "私 - watashi" which is mostly used by women.
3) This is the live from the Blitz 5Days DVD. It's very emotional. I've subtitled the unsung words anyway - maybe to show why Kyo couldn't sing them live.
Please, guys, try to remember to cut down on the flames and the rumors on this video.

Additional note:
"私心" - Kyo sings "watashi kokoro" - "my own heart". However, "私心" can also be read as "shishin", which then stands for "selfishness". This gives this sentence another interesting layer... "What killed me was my own selfishness".

This song has been one of the most important songs to me since I've heard it (which was years ago)... No other song makes me feel so emotional, it almost feels like I am the one singing it. Every time I listen to it, it's very surreal...

Does anyone else wonder if the other guys in the band are ever watching what Kyos doing and is like, “uhhh, is he ok? Should we stop him? We didn’t rehearse this!?”
I think the same. I have the belief that Kyo at that time was not well at all. Maybe he really had ideas about killing or hurting himself. I think he used the theatrical performance at concerts to really hurt himself but make it go unnoticed.
Kyo has had his share of issues, back when they were touring for Withering To Death there was post-show backstage pics floating around where Kyo had scratched his chest so deep he was still bleeding after the show
@@kris.tea.p Theres interviews where kaoru talks about it. He said he and the other members trust him not to cut to deep or kill himself and also in another interview he said it was hard to watch

too bad their last good album came in 2005, after Withering and Kyo's throat surgery it just went too deathcore and weird for my taste
but yeah, their first few albums should totally get more recognition

For me, Kyo's voice always manage to get me emotional...and on top of that, the Kaoru and Die on GUITARS, Toshiya on BASS, AND My Hero SHINYA on DRUMS, even their instruments seem to bring out MORE emotion! i love this live so much... its like the same feeling i get when i first heard the second scream of ware, yami tote. the really intense one? i feel so bad for kyo, hes had to experience this horribly nasty, gut-wrenching feeling all the time. its so sad what hes been through. i love DEG, such great musicians.

I have been listening to this song for years and I have never seen a performance that more closely resembles what I have been through. It's almost scary.
Just a little correction, "watashi" is used as pronoun for both genders. The feminine version is "atashi", without "W". This, considering romanji version.
I think this is why many japanese songs say "watashi" when the character's point of view is seen in first person. It's directioned to both genders.
Men mostly use "watashi" in polite or formal language. Using "watashi" in an everyday situation will make you sound feminine, uncomfortably formal or like a grandpa. But yes it is gender neutral.

The song you mean is probably "Vanitas".
"Mushi" is about a break-up and there is little room for interpretation that it's not from the viewpoint of a woman because Kyo uses a female/neutral version of refering to himself ("watashi") which is rather uncommon for guys (nowadays) who use the neutral "boku" or more harsh sounding "ore". Kyo has written many songs (the vast majority even) that weren't from his point of view or from a woman (such as Kasumi or Embryo or Tefu Tefu, to name a recent one). He also stated in interviews that he has done that.
