Outstanding job! They look amazing and you did a really good job explaining the whole thing. Happy haunting!
Thanks again and you too!
😳Crikey.. I am impressed and in awe... Ace Mate for all that work and just brilliant idea of how to make solid columns and the techniques and materials and how nice you explained it all just floors me.. AMAZING!!! they look so real and perfect.. I made a fake fireplace with tiles and similar way as you but this gives me ideas on Halloween and for in the house too.. I LOVE IT.. just wicked .. thank you for sharing and applause for the entire project...!!!😊🥇🏆👏
Thank you so much for the kind words! Good luck with your further projects!

Super cool my friend and I am sure your builds just keep getting more refined.
Just finishing up building a pair of these columns following your instructions they are looking pretty awesome, thanks for taking the time to put the videos together.
Awesome! I would love to see any photos if you would like to share them.
Amazing creativity! Great video and incredible cemetery entrance!!
Thank you so much!
What an inspiring build. Love it!

Wow. Very detailed how too. Love what you have made. Great job!.
Thank you so much!!
Amazing how you are giving the dimensions of everything as you go🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻😩😩 So many videos don't and just expect people to guess when they want to make it themselves. Thank you so much
No problem! Glad this video can help!
These are a dream for a home haunt! I love every single thing you've made so far. Great work!

Making the finials out of craft foam is brilliant! It really makes the gate feel imposing.

Very nice work
Looks great. You nailed that look. Well done 👏

Love your columns! Nice angled tops on the columns and the curves on the gates. Can't wait to see more!
Thank you so much!
Amazing design and build! And great work on the videos as well! You did an amazing job of explaining everything step by step, and gave all of the important details! Best videos I’ve seen on a build like this (or almost any home built Halloween project for that matter) bar none! 👍🏻
Thank you so much, means a lot especially when there are a bunch of other columns builds out there! I've got some new ideas for pneumatic props and builds for next year and I will definitely be doing videos on them!
Fantastic job!

It must be spooky season as this video finally found its way onto my feed. Great job. I sub to Capital City Lumber yard sort of recently. Heard you mentioned them in your video. Wonder if that is why the algorithm decided to show this video on my feed. We will never know. Will have to sub and check out your other video. Great job !!
Well I've been watching this video over and over again in the past week because I'm building this project now so it might have boosted the algorithm.

Looks awesome. I have to re-coat my columns this year because my hard coat has started to crack in some spots and I'm worried about water getting in. I used monster bud and Drylok, but it seems like this stuff is a good alternative because of the flex. And cheaper! Nice tutorial.
Yes flex bond is super easy to use! Good luck building!
Great Video!
Thank you glad you enjoyed it!
Great work.

Have any pictures how your attaching the archway to the columns? Don't see any pics of those. Guessing your using some sort of pvc fitting attached to the wood of the top..
Super cool... Where do you store all your props?
Thanks! We have an off site storage unit
If it is 90 plus degrees of course the fog will stay on the ground. What happens if the temp is in the 30’s does the fog get cooled enough to stay on the ground.
I would assume that it would stay on the ground better if it is cold out!
Great video! I am attempting to build a modified/smaller version of your design so I can store it in my attic. Do you remember where you bought the light fixtures from?
Thanks! Good luck building your own! Thanks for the fast response! Going to buy them today!
Thanks for a great tutorial I have been making a set and they are looking great. I was wondering do you know of a UK equivalent of the flex bond? Cheers
Some kind of mortar or concrete mix with fine aggregate could work as well.
Great stuff (no pun intended). Lol. Do you have a video or tutorial about how you made the cemetery sign? Or could you tell me what materials you used? Thank you.
Haha thank you! I don’t have a video on it, but it was made from the 1/2” foam insulation board. I used the dremel with a drill bit to cut out the letters and glued them onto the foam backing piece. I them spray foamed pvc onto the ends so it could be attached to couplings on the columns. I painted the letters with a teal colored paint and aged it with watered down browns and blacks.
@@AndrewLong Nice. Thank you. I was wondering if you went with all foam board or a combination of foam board and wood.
You do a really good job. Thanks again.
@@peterusko np! If I were to make it again I would probably use plywood for the backing to strengthen it up. It can bend in the wind so it depends if you get a lot of wind and it be risk of breaking!
These look amazing! I'd like to know why you chose to use plywood for the underlying structure instead of foam-board. It looks like you used 1/4" plywood which is pretty light, but wouldn't all foam-board be significantly lighter?
And why do you use Flexbond mortar rather than a paint like DryLok masonry water proofing paint?
Thank you and keep up the great work!
Thank you! I chose to use plywood for a few reasons:
It’s a lot stronger than foam so will less likely get a hole kicked in it. It’s also a lot easier to attach to the wooden framing. The foam has also gotten pretty expensive recently.
I use the flexbond for a hard coat and to give it a textured look. Then I’ll paint it.
Hey Andrew, we are in the process of building these. Can you tell me more about the paint? Looking to see if we can buy in smaller batches (the brown, green, and turquoise). Are you able to find them in smaller containers? If so, where? All flat? Thanks so much! Love your explanation, and the columns are amazing!
Hey! Yes you can get those colors at Home Depot or Lowe’s in half gallons or even the color sample size as you will not need that much. They are all flat as well. Thank you for the support and good luck building!!
Cannot wait to set up my cemetery this year so exited I wanna get an early start please comment how early I should set it up I don’t wanna be the crazy person in the neighborhood setting up mid September but last week of September would that work??
It is honestly up to you how early you want to set up and how much time you think you will need to get it set up. For us, beginning of October is when we start putting stuff out but we don’t put everything out right away because we don’t want it to become damaged. We run our event three nights during Halloween weekend so I don’t like having everything show ready until two or three days before the event. But if you’re fine with having stuff out in the weather for a month then go for it!
Nice. You are a fking good . Excellent job
Hey Again! So…we didn’t have time to finish last year. We started another build for the extra fence columns and didn’t get to make these big ones. NOW…we are finally making them. Can you tell me how wide the piece of foam board is that goes down the center? The one that looks like it separates the bricks. Thanks again!
3"
amazing job! what was the paint to water ratio for the weathering?
Thanks! Not sure the exact ratio but just watery enough that it will drip down but enough paint so that it shows up.
Love your video. Good ideas. But I had trouble with my balance as the camera was moving to fast back and forth. Had to stop half way through.
Thanks! And sorry about that.
Do you coat them with anything after painting ? Do you find rain or weather makes the paint run?
Nope! The paint should be enough of a weather barrier but you can definitely put a clear protective coat on it.
Fantastic
Thank you so much!!
How did you put in the blocks into the columns that holds the gates ?
I have bracing on the inside (I believe a 2x4) and I attached it with screws through the inside of the column.
Excellent job Andrew! I am going to use your video as inspiration to build some columns this year for Halloween. QQ: I am trying to gauge how much rigid foam to buy. Can you estimate how many 4x8 sheets you ended up needing (both sizes) for the build?
Thank you! It’s been a while but to play it safe I would say 2 sheets of the 1/2” thick per column. If you were to build the side walls with the thicker foam, I would say 1 sheet of that would be enough.
@@AndrewLong Great, that's a big help. Appreciate the fact you still answer questions on this video even though it's over 3 years old!
@@jimepler9347 haha of course! Try my best to reply to every comment
Do you have plans anywhere? What type of bit did you use on your router in the router table?
The video should have all the measurements so I do not have any plans that are detailed enough for building. For the router bit I am pretty sure it is called Ogee.
Questions - for the mixture you are doing with the Flexbond how long does it take to dry? And how well does it adhere to the foam?
The mixture takes around an hour to fully dry but I try not to use a batch for more than 20 minutes at a time, so I did a few smaller batches for the column. It adheres great to the foam and will very rarely chip/break unless you purposely ram into it. I’ve only had problems with the pool noodles as neither paint or the flexbond likes adhering to it so I would definitely use another material like PVC or carved foam to get a rounded shape.
@@AndrewLong Awesome, Thank you Andrew. Thanks for the videos as well. Seasons screamingS
@@rayk141 no problem! Happy haunting

Thank you!
Can you spray on the mortar?
You can use a texture sprayer from harbor freight to spray on the mortar!!! Way better than brushing it on.
These columns and fencing is not easy. Very time consuming and was not cheap for me to make. Just wondering how long it took you and how much do you think it cost? I’m not even 1/2 way done and I’ve spent well over $1000.
Oh no I’m sorry about that! It took me over 2 months to build the whole set of columns. I don’t remember the exact cost but I know that foam prices have gone up quite a lot which could be a culprit.
@@AndrewLong Everything has gone up in price. I started in August and questioning my commitment to this project. Lol. When I watched your videos it looks so simple. Far from a simple project. Now I understand why this prop would cost so much.
@@SCPVIDEOPRODUCTION these projects can definitely become complicated! I wish you luck with finishing it! Let me know if you have any questions or need any further help.
Why did you use Luan plywood? Is there a specific reason for it? I'm finding it hard to get here in Minnesota... could I use 1/4 inch OSB or just normal plywood?
Lauan plywood was the cheapest and best quality thin plywood I could find. OSB and normal plywood should also work just fine!
@@AndrewLong Thank you! Was that latex based paints, you were adding water, so I am assuming water based...???
@@iamthenra1968 all water based paints!
@@AndrewLong at 9:45 you are talking about the "foam molding pieces" or the " T " shaped decorative molding, what are the dimension of the horizontal and vertical pieces? I am going to be doing the columns this year, and maybe next year I will do the wall and end columns like yours... I absolutely love your work this design is amazing. I have to ask, was the crooked gate on purpose? making it look run down and old? Every time I see it my OCD kicks in and it drives me crazy that it isn't square... lol I do the same thing with paintings on the wall if it isn't straight it drives me crazy .... lol
@@iamthenra1968 I’m sorry I don’t remember the exact dimensions but I believe the horizontal is 3” wide and the vertical is 4” wide. I’m sure the proportions are similar to that. The 2x2 for the gate was quite warped so it just made the whole thing crooked which was a happy accident lol. Good luck making your columns and thank you so much for the support! If you have any other questions lmk.
For anybody wanting to build these I've started this project and basically the materials just for the pillars not the wall because (I'm using 4x8 by 4 inch thick foam board for the wall,) six 2x6x104, twenty 1x4x8, four sheets 4x8x.25 plywood, four sheets 4x8x1" foam , lg box of screws. cost me 314.88
built/framed/sheeted lg pillars day 1, built/framed/sheeted small pillars and cut all 80 bricks day 2, foam work attaching this weekend. I will hard coat and paint next week.
btw... brad nailer works better to attach the plywood, just use wood glue too.
Thanks for listing all this out! I wish I did a more detailed count of everything. Good luck building!!
What would have been cool is to have bent one of the PVC verticals to make it look like someone escaped from the locked cemetery gates.
Great suggestion! Even though the main gates stayed open, I would’ve have loved to do this somewhere else in the cemetery and have a whole scene where a zombie animatronic or scare actor looked like they broke through!
I admire your work, your cemetery columns are magnificent. I love Halloween but in France it is so difficult to find products for finishing. I have a question, which product do you use to glue your insulation boards and your pool noodles together? I am in the process of making but cemetery columns but I glue with wood glue, I'm afraid that it will come off over time. And for the painting, is it only acrylic? Thanks again for these 2 videos.
Thank you very much! For the glue I use a variety including liquid nails, great stuff spray foam, and hot glue (the liquid nails holds very well and the spray foam does as well but it expands so be careful with that). The paint I use is exterior water based latex paint (basically normal house paint). If you want to improve the durability of your columns as well it is great to hard coat them, I used flex bond mortar for these columns. Good luck building!
@@AndrewLong Thank you for your reply. I will follow your advice. I really liked your video for painting the tombstones. Hoping to see more videos, I wish you a Happy Halloween.
@@pitnatclem hope to post very soon! Happy Halloween!
@@AndrewLong Hello I really don't know what to take to cover my columns. I took the coating of facade the grain is too big, it does not hold and it does not cover well. Do I need to use tile adhesive? In white or in gray? The Flexbond you use is not found in France.
@@pitnatclemI have never used tile adhesive but I believe it could work. It should not matter what color you use as you will most likely be painting over it later. There are also some hard coating videos on youtube, Hollywood Haunter has a few!
Do you sell your own columns? I would definitely purchase these!! Let me know if you do and we can arrange deliveries.
Hello! I do not sell these specific columns in the video but if you are really interested in purchasing them I could possibly build them over the summer, but it depends on the other builds and overall time I have. Are you only interested in the main two columns and gates? Also, do you know how the shipping would work with such large items, I have never shipped something this big. Feel free to email me to discuss this even further. Glad you like these columns! My email is: andrew.tw.long@gmail.com

Hi Andrew!
Thanks for your reply.
Yes I’m only interested in the main two columns and gates as we already have our own fencing.
I’m not too sure on the shipping as I am from the UK but I’m sure we can work something out.
I’ll contact you via email for more details regarding the price of columns / gates / delivery!
Thanks man
How heavy are the columns?
When the columns are taken apart, each section can be moved by one person. All together I am not sure how heavy they are, but they are heavy enough that you cannot easily move them but they can stay standing with their own weight.
Wait, wouldn't the last pvc piece be 6'12?
Technically yes, but that would just be 7' anyways.

These are great! I have one note: your music is so loud and it makes it difficult to hear what you’re saying. I probably wouldn’t watch it again as a tutorial because of the music. I personally wouldn’t be able to concentrate.

Great build......but I thought this was going to be a tutorial.....not a "hey look at me and what I got" bragging style video.....
So disappointing. I won't be subscribing
Bruh. Give me time stamps of me bragging and I will remove them just for you ☺️
@@AndrewLong tell you what. Give ME some time stamps of you giving a materials list, or you explaining/demonstrating how to make what you are filming, or you building the piece in front of the camera to "show" how to do it, or supplying complete dimensions of the build which is what a tutorial means, and I will take down my comment.
And I wasn't asking for you to take down the video, but perhaps taking the word "tutorial" out of the title might make it less like click bait.
@@Raynestorm1968 sorry I couldn’t please you
@@Raynestorm1968 lol oh dude. Do you need someone to print every single step out for you? This is one of the best videos out there.
