I just purchased the 100-400 for my Z50 and can't wait for it to arrive. On an unrelated note... Do you realize that you are the spitting image of John Murphy? lol
I guess im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot my account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
In a setting where you’re constantly zooming in and out, just set your aperture to the slowest minimum aperture (6.3 in the case). That way your exposure doesn’t change regardless of what focal length you choose.
Late to the game but while I use the Nikon 200-500mm for sports, I took the 18-400mm to Disney and never had to change lenses except for anything indoor. Fantastic walk around lens! However for outdoor sports the wide end comes in really handy, especially for baseball.
At 0:51 Mark. I really thought there was a fly in my house in the Dead Winter! What the hell look at the left part of the screen a fly appears. I was about to swat my screen
I shot a lot of college and minor league ball with the 100-400 last year. Only sold it to help fund my 300 2.8 as I stated covering Friday nights. It was probably the sharpest lens I've had. I loved the images from it. Super fast focus acquisition with a Canon 7Dii. It was a perfect lens for hiking/parks when I wanted to capture the wildlife. One point to note: the 18-400 is only for crop bodies (Tamron's Di II is for crop sensor cameras, Di III for Sony mount.)
Noticed the 18-400 is really an 18-200. Probably because of focus breathing but it doesn’t give you a full 400. Will be nice to see sample pictures of both lenses at 400mm and see the difference in field of view.
Great video! I used to own a 16-200mm f3.5-6.3 but sold it after just one indoor badminton game as it of course does not really work for that. But I was interested in the Canon 100-400mm for a while now and I am now considering getting the Tamron version instead as it is about have the price and only one stop darker at 400mm. Do you think one stop less light is worth the savings? I shoot semi-professionally and I am planning on using it at outdoor soccer games and go kart races.
I do think it's worth the savings! What kind of camera body are you using? Most bodies now perform so well at higher ISO's, that that one stop won't really kill you for low light environments. Obviously the more stops you can save, the better, but if you're looking to save a bit of cash, I think this will do great! Plus the 20% discount :)
@@billieweiss7681 Thanks for the reply. I am currently using two Canon 7D mk1 and I can’t push the ISO higher than 800 without a massive amount of noise. 😊 I plan to upgrade the cameras to full frame first and then buy a 400mm to get the crop-sensor reach back. But I think I am going for the Tamron version. Do you know how the lens performs in sharpness compared to a Nikon or Canon lens? Because I had some bad experiences with Tamron lenses in the past.
@@zamirloshi4127 I see! Would be great to upgrade from the 7d :) The Tamron lens is for sure sharp! It will not be as sharp or as fast to focus as the high end Nikon/Canon lenses, but for the price point, it felt very sharp to me. I think you would be very happy with it as a semi-pro!
Thanks for this video, seeing lots of reviews of the 18-400 but only doing wildlife photography. I'd be looking to use mine for some amateur sports photography so it was great to see some of the images you captured and hear your comments. Think my mind is just about made up!
Good question! In my opinion, it works well, but not outstanding, if that makes sense. For the price point, it definitely does a good job with vibration reduction, but won't out perform a pricier lens in that regard.
Damn making me regret buying the canon. I wanted to get into sports photography and seems like canon doesn’t have any cheap ranges just to break in and learn.
Is there any alternative to Tamron 18-400? I have a Canon EOS M200 and I would like to buy a fairly universal lens with as large a zoom as possible for this price Tamron 18-400.
I want to take photos of wrestling matches. Would one of these lenses be the best options me or is there another lens that would best fit my needs? **Fyi- just a mom trying to get some really nice pics for the team.
A 80-200/2.8 or 200/2.8. Gyms are dark and most don’t allow flash. With the busy background of a gym have a fast lens can help to blur out the background.
Excuse me: at 5.30 you are showing the switches buttons about the 18-400....2 modes for VC?! I have the 18-400 too for Canon and I don't have 2 VC modes! A new upgraded version?! Why?!
So great the kiddos can still play this year!

That's a great idea and suggestion! Thank you!
Thank you for concentrating on the less expensive lenses that can get the job done and not break the bank!

Fun review ...really super shots of the kids.
Thank you Paul!

I shoot a lot of in church shoots with limited light... I need a telephoto lens at least a 400mm, I shoot the Nikon z6 ...
I will be upgrading to a Z6II, will this work on a Z? I’m looking at the 70-200, but if I could save some money, I’m all for it.
I just got the 18-400mm lens, I love it.
Awesome! It's a great little lens.
@@billieweiss7681 Yes especially for $400 renewed, it looks brand new and works great.
How heavy is it

This was sooooo helpful. Thank you!!!!
Awesome, glad to hear it!
is the Tamron 18-400mm good for sports too
Have you tried a nighttime sport with the 18 to 400?
Thanks for this video!

great vid! does the vibration compensation work decently well for shooting videos as well?
Good question! In my opinion, it works well, but not outstanding, if that makes sense. For the price point, it definitely does a good job with vibration reduction, but won't out perform a pricier lens in that regard.
Is the 18-400 compatible with Canon 7D ?
Hi Billie I am new at photography I bought the canon m50 ii and the Tamron 18-400, please what mode should I my sports in. Manual or TV?
Great video!
Thanks for all your help with this one Andrew!
How much are they?
Hey! is Hunts still giving that 20% discount?
I believe so! I would reach out to Noah at nbuchanan@huntsphoto.com to find out!
Damn making me regret buying the canon. I wanted to get into sports photography and seems like canon doesn’t have any cheap ranges just to break in and learn.
Is this compatable with a Nikon D3200?
Yes!
Thank You
Thank you for watching!
Do these lens work for a canon rebel t7
18-400 is crazy
Do you offer internships? I’m in my last year of undergrad, I live 30 mins away from Boston!
It is not something I am offering currently, but may be an opportunity in the future! Thanks for letting me know.

Absolute versatility with 18-400
Critical versatility. Good for any scenario.

Ask Noah if he’ll reactivate the code for me. 😂
What do you think about 75-300 lens for soccer
300mm is good if the action is close or if you are photographing multiple players. Mid field you need at least a 400 or 600mm.
You should point it out those lenses are only good in daytime before people waste their money. who want to shoot Friday Night Lights..
What do u guys think of the Tamron 18-200 instead?
