Audra has one of the most pleasant voices ever. For all the happiness that she brings to the listeners, I hope that she experiences good health and happiness throughout her life.
I know Audra has received more Tony Awards than any other performer, and she's deserved every one of them, but I wish she did more film work -- or that more work was available for her to do -- so that this magnificently talented woman's work was preserved on film.
For a brief moment I could swear I saw Judy Garland smiling. She acknowledged the impact and importance of that song and admitted that she was not worthy..
What an American treasure she is. I am fortunate in my lifetime to hear such a wonderful singer. There are not too many singers with her talent. I hope she does't act like a diva.
I love that she treats the song as a work unto itself and not a chance to mimic Judy Garland, and considering the song was written for Garland , that’s an achievement.
I think I just heard the most beautiful rendition of this song ever recorded. Sadly, I only recently discovered this singer recently on YT, and for my money she probably has the most gorgeous voice these 76-year old ears have ever heard - an exquisite combination of both perfect technique, phrasing, passion, with an incredible degree of warmth, all in one, beautiful package. I am totally stunned.
I first saw Audra last night at the PBS program Singing with the London orchestra It was 10 pm time to go bed But watching her and enjoying her performance.. I stayed until it finished OMG am in love with her voice and her presence!! Absolutely beautiful performance Her voice it’s out of this world Am a big fan right now !! Thank you Audra ❤
As an artist she exudes discipline, great beauty and a righteous authority manifesting as wisdom. One believes the words she sings because of her artistry and composure. Genius. Prayers.
When all the world Is a hopeless jumble And the raindrops tumble all around Heaven opens a magic lane When all the clouds darken up the skyway There's a rainbow highway to be found Leading from your window pane To a place behind the sun just a step beyond the rain Somewhere over the rainbow Way up high There's a land that I heard of once In a lullaby Somewhere over the rainbow Skies are blue And the dreams that you care to dream Really do come true Someday I'll wish upon a star And wake up where the clouds are far behind me Where troubles melt like lemon drops way above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me Somewhere over the rainbow Bluebirds fly Birds fly over the rainbow Why then oh why can't I? If happy little bluebirds fly over the rainbow Why oh why can't I?
It is astonishing how even the best singers have insecurities, are scared to perform etc, I'd love to take that away from them since this artist for instance, performs so wonderfully. Beautifully accompanied by the guitar player too
Only recently discovered A.M. What a breath of fresh air in the morass of pretty banal so called singers abounding today. The prevailing climate of dumbing down applies to music as much as other areas, and I am totally sick of seeing the plaudits given to so many who have little talent or voice - "belting" (originally the refuge of the voiceless) now predominates - of course it has its place in certain songs but now seems to be the norm. Great to see someone like Audra who is not afraid to use her obvious natural talent to the full - being a Brit I only know of one British musical theatre artist (no name) who is near Audra's class, but uses her full soprano potential very little. Glad I found this just in time to see the 2017 Olivier Awards !
moreno 2244 You sound like an angry middle school girl who resents all the pretty girls in her choir class. Put away the thesaurus and curb the pretentiousness.
I can understand why she said she is afraid of singing this song because Judy is and always will be the gold standard but Audra did a spectacular job with it, she sang it the way it was meant to be sung and I think Judy would have been extremely proud.
I live in London and got to see here here two years ago in Lady Day. Much as I admire Billie Holiday, I could have done with more Audra and less Billie. She was and is stupendous.
She did sing this song actually in roger rockas in Fresno California when she played Dorothy! My mom knew her from there since we live in Fresno when my mom was a roger rocka they didn't really know each other since my mom did the preshows😊 (When she was young and wasn't famous) And my mom went to high school (Bullard high to be exact) with Britney Spears ex husband and her boyfriends sister was good friends with him! It's amazing that famous people used to just be normal and it's just so cool people who I know know them lol
I can assure you that everyone in that auditorium. Remember you sung that song

William. Her voice is much more than "pleasant." It is exquisitely beautiful.
I know Audra has received more Tony Awards than any other performer, and she's deserved every one of them, but I wish she did more film work -- or that more work was available for her to do -- so that this magnificently talented woman's work was preserved on film.
You act like the casting of film and TV is up to her. I’m sure she’d love to do more of it too, but she can’t do work that isn’t there
i could listen to her sing all day
ME TOO!!
For a brief moment I could swear I saw Judy Garland smiling. She acknowledged the impact and importance of that song and admitted that she was not worthy..

That was purely divine. One of the singular most talented singer-actresses of her generation. She’s just magnificent.
I love that she treats the song as a work unto itself and not a chance to mimic Judy Garland, and considering the song was written for Garland , that’s an achievement.
Honestly, one of the most perfect lullabies ever composed anywhere on earth
One of the most underrated voices of our generation ❤
Underrated??? WHAT???? She's won 6 Tonys. She's one of the most respected and beloved Broadway stars.

She means every word ❤
If Audra's soothing, melodious, magical voice and incredible artistry aren't hallmarks of excellence, I don't know what will qualify as such.
Audra McDonald is one of the most gifted singers I have ever heard. I love her, and her rendition of this song, one of my favorites.
As an artist she exudes discipline, great beauty and a righteous authority manifesting as wisdom. One believes the words she sings because of her artistry and composure. Genius. Prayers.
Crazy about Audra
When all the world
Is a hopeless jumble
And the raindrops tumble all around
Heaven opens a magic lane
When all the clouds darken up the skyway
There's a rainbow highway to be found
Leading from your window pane
To a place behind the sun just a step beyond the rain
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There's a land that I heard of once
In a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you care to dream
Really do come true
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops way above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then oh why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly over the rainbow
Why oh why can't I?

Damn will the guitarist share that tab?
(And oh yeah Audra is brilliant)

JUST FINE....
Liked it. It works best with a guitar, as Eva Cassidy --I think- proved.
and they made her a fucking wardrobe
I hear America in all it's songs in her voice.
I would love to hear her belt this dong out as well
