  • Today, Ian and Mikey dive into the brand new BGT ZNE Wedge Shaft. Golf's first 2-piece wedge shaft is designed with Advanced Materials Integration, which according to Breakthrough Golf Technology delivers the face square at impact for more centre strikes and lower scores.
    BGT’s testing shows the patented design of the ZNE wedge shaft redirects energy so efficiently over steel that:
    -92% of golfers showed better distance control.
    -Over 90% had tighter dispersion.
    -100% of golfers tested said it felt better than steel.
    -Tested to withstand all types of turf conditions, players, and swing speeds.

    Ian / Mikey, always good content with the product reviews. But can we see more actual fittings? Doesn’t matter if it’s Driver, Woods, Hybrids, Irons, Wedges, or Putter. Always loved seeing an actual customer come in with their numbers from their current equipment and then how good the numbers are with the fitted equipment. High Handicap, Mid Handicap, Low handicap…….doesn’t matter. Just like seeing actual fittings mixed in with demos of new equipment. Cheers mates!

    Crazy!
    I built my own Frankenwedge with a 60.04° SM8 for fun after thinking about that video enough. Turned into my best club.
    My coach/fitter and I decided to test some wedges today, fully expecting to just swap the Ping Alta shaft into a fresh head. He has me try the 90g ZNE. It was amazing.
    I disagree with regards to full shots. I was taking full rips. I haven’t taken full rips with a wedge in years. I even took a couple “over-full” rips, swinging out of my shoes. Even those were decent(not counting a couple of hosel rockets).
    This thing just worked on every shot I tried. Full, 80y, 30y, Lobs, and punches.

    BGT was trowing darts at the stick....awesome test and impressive. Going to have to put this to a test in comparison to my KBS Hi Rev 2.0.

    BTW, I really like it when you use a real hole on tests like this, versus just the driving range screen. It makes no difference, just visually more appealing.

    Interesting. Appreciate that Mike and Ian acknowledge that the jury is still out on these shafts and that more testing is needed. I was temped to send my wedges in for retrofit when I first learned about these but clear I need to try them out first to see how/where they would fit in my bag.

    One thing that I don't think you guys talk about enough is standard deviation. On the comparison between the stock SM9 and the BGT 115, the standard deviation of the default is 1.7 (-2.2) and on the BGT 1.0. That means they are overlapping a ton. I realize that you can't hit 5000 balls for every test, but I think conclusive performance metrics look different. I think it would be worth calling that out more in test/cases where the results are overlapping this much

    The 3mph club difference makes up for the 1000 rpm in difference, or at the very least a huge part of it. Made you feel confident swinging it faster at a slightly more open blade and lower strike. From a purely physical standpoint, i don't think there was anything with the BGT that made the ball act different. However, where i do think you could see a difference is with those tough rough lies like bermuda rough where you have to dig in.

  • @1974jrod
    @1974jrod ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wish you had hit full shots with it. The faster you swung the club the closer the dynamic lie angles got. I was amazed how much toe down you had on the 50 yd shot with the steel. Also, it would have been cool to compare a 130 gram steel shaft in the wedge.

    I recently tried a friend's wedge with KBS C-Taper 130X in his wedges and loved how stable and in control of the face it felt, compared to the DG120X in my irons. This has made me seriously consider something like PX6.5 for my next wedge shafts for the weight and control in the stiffness.

    Worth testing a normal but much stiffer steel shaft than the S200 to see if the stiffness is the main factor or if it's something special about the BGT? For exampel X7 or PX LS 7.0 in a wedge?

    I know it's getting to the end of the season for you guys but really need to see these in the short game area and the real world conditions in general. I've always really liked softer butt shafts in wedges for feel. I've tried stiffer stuff from KBS and it produced really bad results because it changed how I swung.

    It would be interesting to see a comparison between similar weight and flex as the BGT...personally, I've usually hit S300's with irons, and X100 8-iron shafts in my wedges. But, I'm getting older...may need to reevaluate!

    I'm wondering if someone simply had a bunch of composite and steel shafts laying around and said "hey, let's glue half of one to another and charge 7 times the price of a normal shaft." 🤔

    • @jim60631

      It definitely is expensive but if they reduce your proximity to the hole by a lot it will help you reduce shots. Obviously we aren't pga tour players but make % from 5 feet is 80% and from 10ft it's 50%. So if this shaft is reducing your proximity by 5ft or more you should be able to make more putts over time and lower your scores. This is one of the few products that I've seen (talked to a few different people who have tested) and everyone says that the story is reduced dispersion with multiple customers. If you are just an absolute wizard with your wedges maybe it won't for you but that's why you demo and see.

  • @benmartinez8995
    @benmartinez8995 ปีที่แล้ว

    I hate how Mikey hits wedges! There are no really good wedge players that play their stock wedge shots like that!

  • @James__123
    @James__123 ปีที่แล้ว

    I usually love these reviews, but there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference in the numbers. The SD's are large enough that there is an overlap and Mikey isn't a machine. I'd be hard pressed to try and recommend a shaft change with those numbers.

    • @jim60631
      @jim60631 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not so much the numbers but the dispersion, if you watch the video Ian did with club champion they have seen similar results in decreased dispersion on less than full shots for a lot of customers.

    • @James__123
      @James__123 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jim60631 I have to wonder is there a bias somewhere, especially from CC that would try and incentivize people to purchase the aftermarket wedge option. The dispersion didn't look that different to me on the shots and an amateur is going to have natural misses. If it was a consistent miss to the left or something then i'd say it was the shaft.

    • @jim60631
      @jim60631 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@James__123 they should have shown proximity to hole, it was significantly closer for Mikey. Also if you go back and look at his 50 yard results his dynamic lie angle changed 2.5* and his face angle changed almost 6*. Those both resulted in him not pulling them and he was much closer.

    • @James__123
      @James__123 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jim60631 his face angle changing 6 degrees shows how inaccurate this test is. The shaft won't make that much of a performance difference. That's all on Mike

    A wedge is a wedge isn't it? Any club is only as good as the person swinging it. Simple as that.
    How to soldiers get better with the rifles yes you guessed it by practice not buy changing it

    • @garymontague1205
      @garymontague1205 ปีที่แล้ว

      100% wrong. 😢
      Yes, the fundamental in shooting is key, but the rifle plays a huge part into this.
      Can the rifle hold a sub MOA at 100yrs? If we take this rifle vs one the is a 1/4 MOA, the same shooter will be a “better shooter” with a rifle that is 1/4 MOA.
      Aim small, miss small.
