The chip is not noisy... It is just not meant to be used like this. :)

@@NYYR1KK1 True, but to be technical, the internal sound mixer and audio output of the machine is very noisy. The VDP alone adds a lot of noise. Very noticeable when compared with the OPNA cart's direct audio output jack.

@@superdeadite Well... I've heard a lot worse from other MSX models... (ie. on my MSX2+ I can literally hear what Z80 is doing as well as the VDP noise) It also depends a bit of revision... A1ST had separate RCA jack for sound output, but especially early models had quite a bad RF shielding. In A1GT this part was already improved, but it had sound output only on DIN-connector and somehow the sound ground pin was somehow messed up, so it is very critical that the ground is properly connected to the shield of the connector. tR has definitely no HiFi output, but I think the noise that you have observed is mostly caused by relatively low sample rate + jitter/skipped samples caused by interrupt handling.

@NYYR1KK1 VDP noise is very noticeable on my setup. Grauw's MSX VGMPlay has an option to turn off the VDP during playback and it really cleans up the sound output. MAmidiMEmo doesn't have this option yet though. Regarding the PCM, I can run it through TurboR PCM or OPNA cartridge. The OPNA cartridge always wins, so much cleaner as it doesn't go through the internal mixer. But, OPNA is limited by the cartridge bus, so it's compatibility is not so great.

@@superdeadite Sad to hear about your problems. I have no idea of the software, but with some luck you can just turn the VDP off before running the software (ie "DEFUSR=&H41:A=USR(0)" ) .. and the software won't turn it back on... For noise reduction most important is anyway that the background of the picture is black.

@NYYR1KK1 lol, not really an issue. I just look for the best ways to experience all the hardware I use.
