This is an amazing approach. It's like stuffing something in the mouth of someone who keeps saying shit you don't like to shut them up. Brilliant

We call this utilizing opposite action 🤩 Doing the opposite thing the eating disorder is demanding you to do or not do.

It’s really encouraging to hear Becky, I think I can over exaggerate my own consumption in my mind so hearing you explain this and flipping my thinking to wanting the most I can fit in is so important to that rewiring. I also agree with eating when the fear is worst, breaks that anxiety (even though my Ed tries to say it will be the opposite). Eating more lessens the anxiety, it’s bizarre but true.

thanks Becky you're amazing. the only thing driving me crazy really is other people's comments who think I'm acting like a 'pig' when in reality they will never even know how harsh on myself I was and how f*cken deprived I felt for SO long. so I always feel the need to isolate myself, which isn't of any help either

Thank you Becky for answering my question ☺ I think it was more coming from someone who's had an ED 20yrs and been on 'rough' meal plans for as long as I can remember and I think having a distorted vision of how much I eat now , so trying to figure out what REAL recovery actually looks like 👍.
Things like did you make sure you eat big proper main meals in between the snacking ?
Thank you so much for your detailed reply 😊

Hi Becky, please can you describe ( in a video?) what your transition from extreme hunger to normal hunger looked like. I haven’t found much information on this. I don’t mean what or how much you were eating but I presume you had a transition period. For example, could you go longer in between meals, did your portion sizes become smaller, did the food stop tasting so good . Did it happen in a linear fashion? Did you realise one day that your hunger was normal? Thankyou

I can talk about this in a video but the short answer is I don’t remember bc I wasn’t really paying attention to what I was eating like I did when I was still very disordered. From what I recall I wasn’t eating as large of portions, was rarely thinking about food, it just took up so much less time and space in my day. I never felt deprived and I never intentionally tried to eat less. I don’t think it happened over night though. It was more gradual than that as I recall.

hey, i’ve been watching your videos for a while now and i really appreciate them! i have really been struggling to recover, it feels super slow and hard for me like I’m sure it does for everyone. Something that i think has been really hard for me is that i am from the states and live in Mexico and everything is so unfamiliar to me. I was wondering if you could make a video on recovery during times of difference and change, and how to make the decision to recover from your ED when everything in your life is changing and your ED almost seems comforting.

This video is very helpful. I am early in recovery and literally all I want to eat it sugar, I just ate 10 Oreos in one sitting and still want more 😂

    Hey Becky🌸
    .
I try to listen to my mental hunger as much as possible but sometimes my body just… throws it up again, … without me forcing it to… then i get even more scared of food…
I dont know what to eat so it wont happen…my body just cant handle this much.,,i really want to fully recover but how?
I dont know what to do…
    Is it normal?
    Hope it makes sense…

It's probably partly anxiety related. The only time I ever threw up involuntarily after eating was when I was under a lot of stress. Deep breathing exercises can help calm you mentally before a meal, as well as preparing your body for digestion!

Is it okay to have extreme hunger (for the second time ) at a clinacly healthy weight ?

I feel stuck. I’ve been trying to recover for 2 years and my weight is stable, but I can’t let go of wanting to change the way I eat. I guess I question whether I should be eating more protein or eating less fat or eating less processed foods. I’m constantly analyzing my food choices. Is this my eating disorder? I don’t know how to stop thinking about food and my body. I keep trying but I haven’t been able to get past it.

Allow yourself to eat whatever your mental hunger is asking you for. Remove all judgment around your food choices. This is likely why you feel stuck.

I am in recovery and am not fully listening to my mental and physical hunger but am still eating a lot. I have been having biscuits, muffins, chocolates as snacks between meals quite often and now my mom says I need to eat more nutritional foods and that I won't recover and my body wont get strong and better if I only eat "treats". So she sees "nutrient dense" foods as spinach, eggs, kale etc.... I am so anxious now because I know I am just going to obsess about nutrition like I did when I was deep in my ED. I am not craving kale or quinoa. But now I feel I can only eat healthy, nutritious foods and I am going to overthink every meal, just like in my ED. I am not going to let myself eat anything I actually like or want. I know I can't recover like this but I already hate how much weight and fat I have gained and I am so scared.

I'm encountering this with my house mate. You're not a normal person. Eat everything and anything you want!

how long did it take of you eating every 5 minutes in recovery before it started to balance out?

Does your hunger automatically decrease / normalise when you are weight restored (according to your body)

    • @beckyfreestone9908
      @beckyfreestone9908  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It will when your body is completely done healing. You may “look weight restored” but your body has more work to do which will cause you to still have a large appetite. Once your body feels really safe the hunger will normalize for whatever normal is for you.
