I don't know how to feel bout this ep, a part of me was excited at the prospect of Spike's parents. Maybe the dad could have been consumed by greed and thus how he acted. I dunno a part of me wished they put more thought into Spike's parents but really he was just an abandoned egg and nothing more.
I agree. That’s what I dislike about some of the characters. They don’t have backstories that explains certain things, like how they ended up with another tribe or how and why they became evil.

I like this episode for Smolder looking out on Spike and wondering if Spike actually had any dragon parents before he met Twilight I think was wondering if he had any parents or was a orphan I don't remember that much.
Ugh. Sludge not only lives up to his name, but it seems he violates ethical rules dragons do according to Smolder. She implies that dragons can be laid back, have fun, and prefer not to take any responsibilities, but they certainly don’t take advantage of littler dragons by posing as their parent(s).
Oh no this episode, ngl this is hands down one of my least favorite season 8 episodes in fact i'm glad Sludge only made one appears in the whole entire series, he was such a jerk as well as a trickster not only that...every time i see the part where Sludge explains how he lost Spike as an egg, it makes me think-"Get your story straight" but anyway that's why i don't really like this episode much.
Bro sluge manipulate a child for his own needs imo this is the worst episode of the show season 8 is a really bad season but this episode makes me feel sick this along with Do princesses dream of magic sheep? (season 5) and dragon dropped (season 9) are some of the worst episodes imo.

Smolder is the MVP of this episode imo.
Sludge is the definition of scummy and his parents knew what they were doing giving him that name.
It would have been great if Starlight blasted Sludge on his way out, for the tub incident.

Can agree, great message, slightly sub-par execution. Still a decent ep, and great use of having Smolder around!
