Prayers for all those affected here.🙏Remember this, I am one of those victim from the eruption of Mt.Pinatubo in 1991 and grateful now that what my family and I lost was returned tenfolds, and everything is just a history. Grateful for those who sends help like relief goods, clothing and shelter. Just keep the faith.🙏

As a small innovative nation we must start to think about what we plant, where we build, how we build, times are changing fast and its time government policies and our environment reflects new thinking, proactive thinking. Stop importing so much stuff that ends in waste, more self reliant and resilient. Developers in housing need to stop building the way its been done since WW1. Somethings have changed in the industry but there is still a long way to go. We can predict weather patterns so why are we not using innovation and science to channel these resources and keep ourselves safe at the same time.

@Louise 99 Yes, the future starts today. NZ very much needs people with foresight, like yourself here, to guide policies and planning for the next hundred years. The templates from Christchurch will be useful for the Cyclone Gabrielle aftermath now too.

@@comealongcomealong4480 There are satellite pictures going back the last 50 years plus that shows our drought/flood patterns, this alone should be a guide for developers on where we need to plant more native trees to hold moisture and a deep root structure for the ground. Also making sure there are decent bedrock foundations for building, or using great available technology. When building more houses developers ensure they design flood prevention that's able to channel volumes of water. Then maintenance and up keep is required to be free from rubbish. I'm in BOP and I can't get over the amount of rubbish/plastic I see along the road way berms, it is appalling. McDonald's and coke rubbish. I don't give any of these companies ( and many more ) my money by buying their products. Schools need to step up to the plate with awareness in plastic/pollution and being sucked in to consumerism with out any thought. All of us have a responsibility. Our immigration needs to spend the time in these areas with them so they are aware of what's acceptable. I came her when I was 3yr old but I was brought up to not waste, use what what you need and to think about the whole picture not just my little backyard.

@@louise9973 Interesting that the years, and your family's migration history, has brought you to this point of recognition and understanding. Fully agree with your point about Immigration - NZ's ecosystems are much too important, and interdependent, to destroy through ignorance. /Have you ever participated at Council or Regional level politics yourself? Sounds as if you have alot to offer the discourse going forward from 13 Feb 2023 👏

@@comealongcomealong4480 unfortunately, what I am aware of in politics and any form of government around the world is. They all lack one thing.......Good old common sense. The political arena has always been about power. The real power people don't realise is in themselves and their choices. Until each of us realise that the choices in what we eat, wear, live, work etc has power and as a collective we can put companies and policies out of business or redundant by our choices. The old saying divide and conquer is very much alive and well. Its rare to find people living on the same street that look out for each other and protect/care about its street. We all live in our tiny single units. I'm not talking about communism just kiwis backing each other and in turn make that street safer, cleaner, happier etc because we are thinking of others and our environment instead of 'ME' and what's mine. Politics is to me parties that represent select groups that vote their views and beliefs, with this there will never be an equilibrium as all sides appose each other. There never used to be a green party but there is now because more people see its value. That in itself is a great question "What do we/I value" when you know that then you can choose differently. This all starts with our thinking and how we are raised. There is nothing wrong with culture/ethnicity, it enriches us as long as all of us do no harm but move towards enrichment and caring about the one and only home we all have.

@@louise9973 "living in our tiny single units". Same pattern of social disconnection and isolation seen around the world. Lots of factors contributing - shift to a 24/7 world, the internet, conducting much of our lives online, casualisation of the workforce etc etc. /Compare with the residents of Puketapu on this morning's news. Because they live more closely to how human beings always have, and rely on each other - one farmer was able to rattle off the names of his neighbours, and how they were faring after the cyclone and flooding. Beautiful to hear 👏

Yes but one after another. Storms seem to be happening far more than a few years ago and they are more severe. I think the Planet has had enough of the human race.

It is definitely concerning that these storms are happening more frequently than ever before and that we need to implement new ideas on how we approach it as a Country. I feel so sorry for All the people who have suffered with flooding, especially for the people who have lost their lively hood and for the people who can't afford insurance. We really need to band together as a Nation and work hard to help people who are affected. ❤️😞❤️🇳🇿
