    Such a great hike Cliff! Love the ruins. I remember when we drove back home to bury mom n dads ashes next to grandparents grave we drove past a place north of town, that had burned down when I was a kid. it still haunts me. I can remember the burned shell of the home smoldering. It gave me goosebumps as we drove past it one more time. Just driving around the area reminiscing of where we grew up. I really enjoyed going to our old farm. We drove in one driveway and out the other. I miss that place. So much family history there. ✨✨🌺🌺✨✨

    Now this was a great stroll Cliff, ruins, a creek, frogs, a flower and just some gorgeous sights along that spur trail. I was wondering if at that arch, do you think those ruins in the bank were possibly kilns of some sort...bieing roundish in shape gives me that impression...thanks for another great day out.

    Interesting to see the park through your eyes Wandering Woodsman. I was thinking when I was there that you would like this location. The first large house you came across was barely noticeable a few months ago with all the brush. I think the park will be doing some maintenance work there soon for sure. It will be interesting to see how the park develops over time, and thanks for the mention!

    I seen this video before, I'm just rewatching this video. Cliff I seen all of your videos following the Application Trail. When you were in South Carolina I believe, this is when I started watching all your Appalachian Trails. I'm up to this video right now for watching all your Appalachian Trail videos; Cliff I liked watching all the videos too.

    That’s a beautiful area with some nice ruins. It’s too bad to lose that vehicle access public road. Driving roads like that are like hiking to old folks or anyone with limited mobility. Thanks for the video, I love that brick arch.

    OK, number 99 state park hooray. Got another hooray here too cliff tomorrow, 3/20, is the first day of Spring. Calendar did not sat what time tomorrow but it's 8:55 PM 3/19 now, so close enough. Those ruins will probably be off limits someday as they are definitely "HARD HAT" area. A stone falling from the top on anybody's bare noggin and goodbye miss Agnes as I like to say. Thanks for the adventure at the ruins and the hike.😵😵🤕🤕🤕

    Just a thought...........When placing your channel stickers around Historic sites be aware that some people out there are pretty careless. When you placed your sticker at Canoe Creek state park, I arrived not 48 hours after you posted your video to find every loose stone along the wall tossed to the ground. I spent an hour placing every one back in place. Like I said, just a thought.......Love your adventures!

      Wow, that's a real shame. You would think that Cliff's viewers would be more kind to these places. And I certainly do imagine the vast majority of us are indeed more like you, and would repair damage rather than cause it. There's often a bad apple I guess.

    • @thewanderingwoodsman7227
      @thewanderingwoodsman7227  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are hundreds of folks who visit those state parks, it would be wrong to assume it was one of my viewers, any bored kid could have decided to knock over those rocks.

    Cliff wish the park had been there when I lived in the area. My great Grandfather's Farm was on RT 841 , Harmony Hill , My Grandparents lived there when my mom was born in 1927. When my Gr Grandmother died @1930 the farm had to be sold. I sent you a book on Elk Township that my Mom" s two cousins did most of the research on, The trail runs between RT841 and Strickersville Rd. They had a meeting before the book and different people gave talks on the history of the township. My M0m's oldest brother talked about all the mills on Big Elk (26) and Little Elk (20). So the channels you saw were most likely Mill Runs that fed water to the mills. Total of mills also included the ones in Cecil Co, Md. too I think. That brick arch was most likely part of the wall of a mill and the arch way was over the mill run and the water went under the mill. That roadway was on top of a dam would be my guess. Wish I could go back and ask my Grandfather and uncle they would know where the mills were.

    There are plenty of forest-trails, and some more ruins, south of Strickersville Road, in the same park, but not yet indicated in trail-maps by the park system.

    I wonder if the arch was a bridge at one time cool!

    • @davidcassidy5868
      @davidcassidy5868 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. It was the aqueduct for a once standing bridge. That remaining stonework along the banks are remnants also

    I have been on that trail numerous times in the wee hours of the morning and I never noticed those ruins. Also, I never knew that trail was part of Big Elk Creek State Park. I thought it was just called The Springlawn trail.

    the first ruin you saw the brick filled holes are put log holes where the scaffolding was when they built the house, the second ruin seems to be from about 1790 to 1830 you can tell by the curved cheek walls at the windows
