Yeah me too I am always not always but I am frustrated to play against Scandinavian defense like I like the Qa5 line but the Qd8 and Qd6 are annoying to me. Not to mention the modern Scandinavian with Nf6 is also very annoying

i love this gambit. i play it all the time with white and don't really mind if it transitions into a french or caro. however, on my level people usually accept which always leads to fun, aggressive lines. i esp. love the ryder gambit with 5...Qxf3, even though you say it's bad. it's clearly unsound but on intermediate level not many people know how to play against it correctly and it offers fun potential like the halosar trap or some really quick mates with the knight and rook on open d-file after castling long :)
If black brings out their white square Bishop after dxe to protect the e pawn. When you push the f pawn and and he takes, that is the only time you should play the ryder. You win a tempo automatically, plus depending on what you do from there, you can ruin their castling opportunities. The ryder is really tricky, especially at higher levels.

I'm really curious as to whether or not there's anything going for black in that gambit besides the couple of (refutable) traps with 3... Qe7 4. Bf4 or the one where you try to sacrifice the knight on e7.

Yay BDG! It's interesting that you say that you must be a good 1.e4 player in order to play the BDG, because I was definitely NOT an e4 player when I was using the BDG. However, because of the kinds of positions and play that arise from typical BDG play, it actually prepared me to switch from 1.d4 to 1.e4, and now I play 1.e4 (I will still transpose to the BDG if my opponent plays the Scandi). I think that the BDG is a great tool in this regard! If you learn to play it, then you also learn a certain ethos common to 1.e4 openings.
I'm an intermediate player and I'm learning this just to surprise my opponent with unexpected transposition from Scandinavian to Blac-diamer. I hope I might be able to put a nail in the preparation of opponent who plays Scandinavian xD.

I still play it, it's totally fine and white usually goes for junk lines where you just . . . win. 1. d4 Nf6 2. f3 d5 3. e4 dxe4 4. Nc3 Bf5 5. fxe4 Nxe4 6. Qf3 Nxc3 7. bxc3 e6 8. Qxb7 Nd7 9. Bb5 Rb8 10. Bxd7+ Kxd7 11. Qxa7 Qh4+
In case of Bf5, transpose into the von popiel with the Bishop on g5 to negate the knight, being a secondary defender of the e pawn. I'm crazy though, If I don't play the French with black, I aim for the soller gambit, which is basically a blackmar in reverse. In both case's, I actually castle king side and I never attack with any king side pawns. I just orient my minor piece's. Great video, e5 is definitely an agitating response to this gambit.

Also in the Lamberger, after 4.Qh5, Qxd4, is much better for white to play 5.Be3!? followed by Rd1 gaining tempo on the queen, with initiative. It's a full time job to cover the BDG. Please referr to Christoph Scheerer's book on it.
This can also be reached with the exchange variation of the French. 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. nc3 exd5 4. f3 exf3 5. nxf3. This variation locks in blacks' white squared bishop and so it's better for white than the main line. You can also enter the main line with e4 d5 2. d4
this opening litterally helped me get at least 150 additional rating points lol , i would always play it and sometimes ryder gambit is powerful too when you take with the queen

The Blackmar-Diemer is partly named after Emil Josef Diemer - a true madman both on and off the board. I have featured a few games of Mr. Diemer on my channel which you can check out here: th-cam.com/video/2oDrYVFLYzw/w-d-xo.html. He played this near exclusively in his chess career. "The Blackmar Gambit changes the man" according to him and it certainly show as the man went insane... Enjoy with caution!
You can have nice games against Gunderam defense simply play bishop d3 trade play bishop g5 and castle queen side and start attack on the king side if black castles there. In blackmar you dont castle kingside in many variations and play passive chess. Love your videos btw they are best and really helpful👌
At 11:53/54 mark, you mentioned Be3 and then queen side castle. Did I misunderstand or did you forget that white cannot castle since the queens were traded? And if white can no longer castle, do you still feel that F5 is not a problem?
Wait the position at 24:30 looks very much like a Tarrasch Variation French Defense or maybe a 3...dxe4 variation. Both are playable for black, so why is this not just good for black? Is it that the knight is pinned that makes the big difference?

I’m an e4 player so when I get the scandi, I play the blackmar diemer. I’m also a caro player so if they ever play the French or Caro, I know how to play those positions by default.
