Assetto Corsa | I’m a Top Split Racer! LFM Mazda MX-5 @ Brands Hatch

- After such an encouraging performance and result in the Mazda MX-5 Cup last week, I didn’t want to start a new Low Fuel Motorsport Assetto Corsa race week anywhere else.
Last time out, I raced the long, wide and fast-flowing Mugello circuit, but I’m in for an entirely different proposition today - Brands Hatch Indy. Not only that, I’m in the top split too and I’ve qualified well down the grid… I’ll be starting from P17 with a lap time that’s more than one second slower than the top three.
This will undoubtedly be my toughest Assetto Corsa LFM test yet. Will I rise to the occasion? Let’s find out…

Yeah I was really excited to try it when I saw the schedule. Knew it was going to be one close battle all the way, so I was well pleased to finish with 0x incident points!

I have to say, Mazda Miata Cup racing is way more fun than driving a GT3 in AC, definitely need to upgrade to a direct drive or force feedback wheel to get more immersion (I currently use a non force feedback wheel atm)

Fingers crossed the new internet will be up and running soon, Walt. I definitely recommend these AC races… I haven’t loaded another sim for the past 2 weeks, I’ve been enjoying it that much. Big grids in the daytime are a real bonus for me too

Yeah, all nearly identical incidents in Clearways! I think, in reality, it’s still early days for AC and the ratings haven’t quite worked themselves out yet. Probably a few drivers on this grid who won’t be too split racers in a month or two - myself included!

Lesson: Stay off the curbs in MX 5 in AC. Me: Instructions not clear, ride the curbs? Another great video, love this race possibly my favourite in all of sim racing for some reason. I do AC MX5 at Brands against AI sometimes, it's so fun.

Nice race have to give this a go, been avoiding it because i hate the last 2 parts of brand hatch but didnt realise it was the smaller version!
Yeah it’s a mega-quick lap on the Indy circuit. Quite a crowded track. The final corner at Clearways seems to be the worst for getting spun out… mainly due to entering too wide and then trying to close the corner off while someone is making a lunge up the inside. Reckon the safest thing to do is, if you enter the corner wider, just stay out wide. Better to lose a position and carry on, than get spun out. Good luck!
Admire your courage in the opening laps when you were racing a guy who clearly was completely oblivious to his surroundings 😂 And nice to see you have learnt to aim for the rear of a spinning car! ;)
Yes! I always try to think of it now, whenever someone looks to be spinning in front. And it served me well here!

Hey, Chris @chrisrogerssimracing - Love your videos! I saw in another comment that you keep the default setup and just change the fuel. Try consider changing the PSI on the tires to be at 27 PSI when hot, as I believe that is the optimal pressure for the MX5. You'll probably see better lap times and overall performance if you do. Keep it up! 😁

I was down on LFM after doing some terrible RF2 races, but the AC races are some of the best online racing going right now.
Well raced; consistent but fast! Thanks to your last few videos, I have myself downloaded AC recently and am enjoying it, although I have yet to dip my toes in LFM (despite having a license). Maybe someday soon 🙂. On question though, what HUD are you using, please? The radar in AC is not great.
Yeah, the built-in AC radar is very bulky. The one I’m using is called Helicorsa - you can download it from Race Department. That’s the only 3rd party app I’m using. The relative bottom left is the AC RealTime box. I still haven’t found a way to display my lap count during races… the lap times bottom right show lap numbers in practice, but changes to lap times in a race. Its bugging me!
Cracking race and cracking video. Are you using any setups or is everything default?
Thank you mate! I’m just running the default setup. The only thing I change is the fuel. I don’t really get any time to practice offline, so I have to settle for just hopping in and doing a race quickly with whatever default settings are there.
Congrats on a good race and well deserved position. Do you run re-shade or post-processing on your vid? never really notice before that AC actually looks pretty good
Yeah, you have to run the Custom Shaders Patch and Sol to be able to enter the LFM servers, and they both make a huge difference to how the sim looks. Also, in my first few AC videos, I had to disable Shaders/Sol when recording replay footage - wfich might explain why this one looks a bit better… I finally found the settings which helps replays perform better with Sol!

Thank you mate, that’s very kind of you to say. The relative leaderboard bottom left is just the RealTime app within the in-game HUD options in AC. I can’t race without it… definitely recommend switching it on 👍

Great racing! Do you mind if I ask what your graphics mods are please? I have CM with a billion PP filters and Pure but I've not seen the game to be like yours. Many thanks if you can give any pointers.
Yeah of course! To be honest, I’ve hardly made any changes at all… I just followed the guide by LFM over what was needed to join their servers. SOL is the main one, which I’ve installed on CM. And then I’ve just activated the latest recommended version of the Custom Shaders Patch. I do tinker with SOL Weather when I’m recording replays… usually just alter it to midday and choose a summer date in June or July, so it’s nice and bright.

I admittedly forgot about SOL as I've been using PURE for a while, so I'll go back to it and set it up like you have as it looks really good and natural to me. This video has also inspired me to try and get back into AC as it's never won me over, but seeing such good racing here has enticed me back! Many thanks again.

Which hud are you using?
Pretty much just the in-game HUD options from the right-hand menu. The only add-on is the radar - it’s called Helicorsa and you can download it from Race Department. Relative board bottom left is the RealTime app in AC, then I just use Race Position (top), Performance Delta (near mirror) and Tyres (bottom right) to finish it off 👍

Are you running the correct versions of the Custom Shaders Patch and Sol? You need them to be able to join an LFM server. Also you need the Real Penalty app enabled too, and to run Content Manager. I find it best to register for the race on the LFM website, and then click ‘Join Server’ straight from the website registration page. It will open the server in Content Manager automatically, you may just need to add the server password. Good luck!

What ist the Mod name which shows the delta?
It’s called ‘Performance Delta’ - it’s in amongst the standard list on the right menu when you’re in game 👍

Got your elbows out there! To be fair, the contact is pretty punishing in these cars, it doesn’t take much more than a rub to completely change someone’s direction. Enjoyed that battle we had in the early laps though, nice one!
