    My go to Bait for rainy days in warm weather is a larger top water wake bait.

    Fishing in the rain with a topwater is the ticket on a clear manmade reservoir ive killed them many times before the storm comes in and as long as it isn't terrible storms the fish seem to bite better in a clear deep lake when something changes like wind or rain or cloudy skies its like it triggers a feeding response

    My best day with a buzz bait was in wind buzzing over the white caps , or fishing a top water behind the boat in wind bass jump through the waves an you see them jump on it ,this is why I’m hooked on fishing.the unsuspected.but there is something about a bobber that brings out the kid in all of us .

    This is funny cause it is 3:45 a.m. here in Bama and it's storming bad lightning, thunder, wind, and flash flood warnings. I tied up to dock about a hour or so ago and waiting in truck till it calms and this video pops up lol.

      Well it finally calmed down a little and I got back out but after catching a few and just starting to put the puzzle together the water raised 3 foot, rolling mud, and water temp dropped 12 degrees. Oh well I tried.

    The only things I don't like about fishing in the rain is dishpan hands and constantly smeared glasses. I've found the larger Gunfish work well along with other loud topwaters. Agree re: spinnerbaits. Also, I've had very good success fishing along windblown shorelines/islands for SMB, especially if it is a deep shoreline or near deeper water. As far as LMB go, same thing, just shallow water has worked out better for me. I'm no expert by any means, I'm just passing on what has worked for me for a very long time. btw: This applies from PA to Up North. Great video Matt.

    I dedicate so much time to my work, an offensive amount of time. So, my day I take every week is Friday. Fishing is sacred to me… if it’s raining, I never let it stop me. All you need is the right gear, and a lil bit of knowledge about the species and area you’re at. Absolutely kill in the rain. Not always, but not often do I goose egg. Great video! Love the positivity 🧐

    fishing around drains during and after rains can be very productive this time of year. i have done real well the last two times out catching several in the 3 to 4 pound range on spinnerbaits. these fish were in inches of water on the 75 acre lake that i fish

    • @stoneysdead689
      @stoneysdead689 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean like the drains in the back of pockets and stuff- ditches basically? Or do you mean like the over flow drain?

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep they can be great! Both the drain on a flat as the fish move to slightly deeper water or a drain with fresh water flowing in from rain! Thanks for sharing!

    Great video Matt. Some of my best days of fishing have been in the rain. I won my last tournament in the rain and even caught my first double on a crankbait in the rain. Many people don't realize you can get hypothermia in the summer after the rain. So it's always good to bring your rain gear even if there is a slight chance of rain. My fishing buddy got hypothermia because he didn't have his rain gear. So it's always good to bring your rain gear. You just never know when a summer storm is going to pop up. Tight lines.

    Back in the mid 80's I was working a fishing show in Asbury Park NJ and Tom Mann Sr was one of the guys thee doing seminars. We were talking to him at our booth and he relayed a story about the time he was stuck by lightning. He said they were fishing offshore and he was throwing a 3/4 oz jig. He said he made the cast and his jig just floated in the air and he knew what was coming. He said he was glad he wasn't fishing alone because the guy with him radioed ahead (before cellphones) and drove him back to the dock. He said if it wasn't for the guy fishing with him he wouldn't be here. Always made me more concerned about lightning.

    We had a summer lightning storm that made the fish straight wacky! The bass were schooling bait under the the mats like stripers. Last summer, a July storm came in and completely ignited the topwater bite!

    I've had the Bass Buggy out in some nasty weather for sure. 100% aluminum frame, deck, and toons. So, yeah. But when it's nasty, pouring rain, and windy, but the fish are biting like crazy, what're you gonna do? I mean, the rain doesn't bother the fish at all. It's not like they're saying "Oh, no! I'm gonna get wet!" They're fish. They're are already wet.

    Been there with the lightning!! My experience with the different Teflon is it's only good for 3-5 years. Fishing in the rain is hard on equipment, so dry it out, lube your reels. My best walleye came in a heavy rain. I can't say it was fun but it was fruitful. BUT I'm still looking for that 16 pounder from Lake Erie.

    I read a statistic once that the average persons chance of getting struck by lightening is 1 in 100,000, but fisherman its 1 in 1000. If you fish 100 days a year i bet its even higher odds!

    🍺Some very good tips Matt. We average 80 inches of 🌧 rain per year here in Washington, so fishing in the rain is common to us hard core anglers🤠. Many stay home which is fine by me👍. I’ll be fishing in the rain this weekend just like I did last weekend. I use Sitka rain gear in warmer weather and Filson in colder even thou they are considered hunting apparel.
    My picks are in 1st,22nd,23rd, and 29th. Time to work on tackle.😎

    Thanks Matt- I'll definitely give the buzz bait a go next time around. Tbh if I'm close to home and didn't drive far, I'll usually call it off if it starts raining very hard but- if I drove all the way to Pickwick or somewhere like that- I'll fish on through. It gets really miserable though without good rain gear. I could of course buy some but- in the last three years I've had one trip where I would've needed it- just one. When you see the price tag and you realize you're not going to use it any more than I do- it's really difficult to pull the trigger. That said- if I were going to fish in the rain much- I would definitely invest in good rain gear because it's super miserable without it- especially if the fish aren't biting. If they are- it miraculously becomes fairly tolerable- funny how that works huh?

      I carry a dollar store table cloth. It good for a groundcloth and other uses. I can cut a hole in the center and use it as a poncho. A rope around my waist holds it in place. I used to use a garbage bag, but it didn’t cover my backpack. You’d be surprised how much it holds in the warmth.
