Corollary: Whether it's somebody holding out beads, or holding out a book to show you all of their previous donations, or holding out a clipboard with a petition or whatever, be aware that this might be part of a pickpocketing team working you over. The clipboard or the book obscures your view of your purse or any shopping bags, or other types of valuables. While you are fending off the person who approached you, someone else is stealing your valuables.

We were semi-scammed by a taxi driver going from the airport to our hotel (the Venetian). He turned on the meter, and commented on how the Venetian was an expensive hotel, and then took the long highway route. He turned off the highway, onto Flamingo and then turned right onto the strip, instead of left towards the Venetian. I yelled, wrong way, where are you going, so he tuned around (meter still ruinning.) When I tried to pay by CC, he first said it didn't go through. I had enough presence of mind to check my on-line statement while he was getting the luggage out of the trunk and saw there were two charges, so I told him he needed to delete the second. If I hadn't caught it, we would have been charged $110 for our ride. As it was, we were still overcharged.

I got a scam for ya. My wife and I went to Vegas and got into a cab at the airport to take us to our resort Treasure Island and noticed the cab was taking a long route to our resort and I questioned her about it and she said this was the way to take. I told her it wasn’t our first time here and she was giving us the “run around”. I told her it was 15 bucks with tip to Planet Hollywood from the airport. The fair already was at 30 bucks. Suffice to say, she asked the other cabbies on the air about their drop offs and price. One other cabbie chimed in and they dropped off a fair at the Palazzo for about 11 bucks and she knew she was busted. I was going to report her and she apologized. I didn’t except her apology. I don’t like scammers

Vegas has gotten so expensive now for the average person, it's sad. Especially for us Canadians. By the time you pay for your hotel, accommodations, for 3-4 night stay and meals you have very little left for gambling. Isn't the whole purpose to go to Vegas and gamble? These blood sucking hotel chains have destroyed the whole experience of Las Vegas. The last time I was there, I stayed at the Park Hotel (MGM) on opening day just before the pandemic. Lady Gaga was there, It was awesome. Anyhoo, there is a breaking point, and it will backfire on them. Until they clean up their act, we will never go to Vegas again. Reno is the place to go now, with cheaper and more friendly hotels. Thank you Turn It Up World. 🙏

Agree. They will implode from within. All these hidden scam fee's tells me that they are losing their arses and need to recover somehow. It will only get worse as prices continue to go up and they find more scams. It is turning out to be a land of only the rich and famous and built from middle class America which put them on the map. I won't set foot in Vegas anymore. I used to go 3-4 times per year.

Greetings peeps! I’d rather be stretched on the rack then attend a timeshare presentation. I agree the CD scammers are very aggressive. Last time 3 of them swarmed me over by Park MGM has I had to tell them to F off before they moved on. And those tacky chicks in the washed up feather outfits are not showgirls. Actual showgirls were hardworking women who appeared on stage not these trashy hustlers who accost unsuspecting tourists on the street. Just a call out …at my recent stay at Aria in a tower suite all 4 nights were completely comped and I did not pay a penny in tax or any resort fees. My total was zero . First thing after check in: we go to Wal-Mart, buy a cheap throwaway Styrofoam cooler, a case of water and some wine, beer, and snacks. For meals, we go to In-n-out burger, the South Point buffet, or an off-strip restaurant. We like to play slots at the Orleans because they still have old favorites like wild cherry, the Munsters, Jackpot Party. Much better than all these big flashy penny dragon buddha machines that make lots of noise and bonuses that don't pay worth a damn.

That said, I think the best chance in making 10x your money in a casino depends a bit on the game you are most comfortable playing. I don't think slots would get me there, so European Roulette would probably be my first choice, but if I couldn't play that, I would play Poker or Blackjack

As a european tourist you also should be very careful that prices mentionner everywhere do not include tax. Of course this can not be called a scam but the impact on your budget can be huge.
There are also these goodies and merchandise offers where you think you can get let's say 3 T-shirts for 10$ says the board, but first of all that does not include taxes and then you always come up with one piece that is not included in the offer.
And last thing I come up with is those online casinos that promise you coupons and discount to make you play more and it ends up with the fact that the discount you thought immédiate is only valide for a 3 night stay at a specific hôtel for example. And this is not clear at all.

I lived in California for many years before all the craziness of Las Vegas was going on. I come once a year to visit family and only go to Vegas when my niece is able to come as she gets free rooms. Next time I come, I will stay away from the strip and wear a fannie pack. LOL. I love Vegas but do not like the scams. The hotels need to do something about these rip offs instead of actively participating in them. Thanks for the info you relay to us.

Long hauling seems to be coming back ... In 2024 the last 2 trips I was long hauled both times. Once from the airport to the Luxor and once from the airport to The Linq. Both times they went the I-15 and drove up the meter to over $40.
Having to argue and tell the driver it's a flat rate is a real crappy and awkward way to start a vacation.

It has been a couple of years, but I used to work at the car rental center. The time share people have been there for YEARS if not since it first opened. The MGM and hotel thing on the booth were put on them not long before the end of the shutdown. The thing to do there is to say that you are driving to St George/ Laughlin/ Primm/ somewhere else and not staying in town, or that you are here on a business trip and have a busy schedule.

I am considering a trip to Las Vegas soon, but I am leaning toward staying somewhere other than the Strip or downtown. I don't gamble, and I only want to go there for food, booze, and maybe some of the nearby outdoor areas. As I do my research, I'm seeing a lot of good options away from the tourist areas, and I would expect most of these scams to be reduced or absent as well, so that is an added bonus.
I'm surprised that people still fall for timeshares these days. It's been well known for a long time that a timeshare is a bad idea for most people.

Regarding roulette, don't get too excited when you see a single zero wheel. That table will have a much higher table minimum. You'll be getting better odds, but you'll be betting a lot more money, and you'll actually be losing more money per hour than at a table with a double zero wheel, but 1/3 or 1/4 of the minimum bet amount.

We've been enjoying Vegas for many years and noticed even the time shares are charging a nominal fee for those presentations. They used to be free. Inflation? We used to fly there as Southwest used to have cheap fares like $99 round trip. As avid RV'ers like yourselves we often schedule Vegas into our travels to the area. We recently glamped at the Circus RV Park right on the strip and that was only $58 with full hook ups. I miss the old days.
