My only complaints are the loud fan noise, tinny speakers ( I am audio fan, I expect more when you have B&O branding) and the average battery life. But it is a very powerful laptop so yea it will be less efficient. It's like getting a muscle car and complaining it's noisy and takes more gas.
Yes unit with 3060 does have tb4. Previous model with the 1650ti had just usb c, and the 2060 variant had tb3. The 3050 supercedes the 1650ti 10th gen. I have the i9, 32gb ram, rtx 2060 4k oled from 2020 and it's an absolute beast. My only disappointment with the envy 15 is that HP do not provide a way of limiting the battery charge, and the speakers could do with being a lot louder and upfiring.
How do I know what kind to tb my laptop has? I bought the 3060 model, tho i can't find any info and i'm barely getting to know the thunderbolt technology.

Thx for the review. I purchased this laptop, model number 15-ep1055CL w/RTX3060 and it does have two TB4 ports. One thing I want you to know is that while it does have 2 SSD slots, only one of them works! HP confirmed this and what a let down! I do video editing and wanted two on-board SSD's. I put in a 2nd Gen4 SSD and the laptop wouldn't recognize. Had to call HP to verify. Too bad I find this out after I purchased. Just thought I would share this small but important detail because you show 2 SSD slots when you take the back off. Buck
Just wanted to say that my second SSD works great in a 15t-ep100. What I needed to do was download the bios update on the HP website (F.10 Rev.A) and then install the latest Intel RST software for the 11th Gen. processor - took about 5 minutes. You then need to go into Disk Partition manger in Windows (after a reboot) and initialize the second SSD (MBR/GPT - choose the latter) and a quick SSD format later and you've got a fully functional second NTFS SSD up and running in less than 10 minutes...
I purchased this laptop recently, but the fan sound was too loud i found out about disabling fan always on in bios menu. But after disabling that i heard a very weird sound inside the loptop. So i return and ask for new one. But the second on had the same sound. I really wanted this laptop. Its beautiful, and powerful and not very expensive. I'm sure about trying my chance for third time 😭
Andrew, between the HP Envy 15 and the Dell XPS 17, which one would you take if is just mainly for retouching pictures? I like the Dell's big screen, but the lack of USB-A ports is an issue. I need the ports for my mouse, external hard drives as well as CFexpress Type B card reader. I am not really familiar with Thunderbolt. Is that the trend going forward and you buy a Thunderbolt dock for all your connections?
I got this laptop with the RTX 3060 and with Windows 11. Be aware of the fact that the RTX video card adapter is only enabled through HDMI on this laptop. When a external display is connected to the USB C thunderbolt connector it uses the basic Intel display adapter and not the RTX adapter. That prevents from being able to plug a VR Headset like the Oculus Quest 2 or Rift S on this laptop. A VR headset needs the high video card to work on USB C port because HDMI does not have enough bandwidth. I dont know if it is a limitation of that HP laptop or a problem with Windows 11 not optimized yet for this. I have a Lenovo Legion 7 with an RTX 2080 and Windows 10 and my Oculus Rift S headset works perfectly through USB C
Really like the look of the laptop. Got a good deal on the 3060 11th gen in 2022 slightly over $1300. Removed the stupid HP command center that crippled internet speed and performance. vBios mod a ton out of this laptop. Wrote myself a max fan control software using RW everything and notebook fan control to replace command center. Now my envy 15 is running at 110W TGP (from 80W stock) or 70W max CPU TDP. With gpu top of at around 80C. CPU peak at 95-97C. Sooo thin sooo cool. Battery is awesome. Gaming is good. Overall awesome hardware and thermal. But terrible software control. Will need to dig in deep to unleash the full potential of this baby. Only thing to make the laptop perfect is USB c charging. Then it is the perfect laptop for everything at this price range literally...

Why do manufacturers sell soldered memory laptops?? So rude and cheap of them. Let us pay for the option to upgrade later! Everyone should be selling matte displays as well.
@@BlackCeII Glossy NOT Glare, different words. There are lots of glossy displays with Anti-glare finish, like iPads, MacBooks, Dell XPS etc. I dislike Matte finish because it makes the text and images look grainy, reduces sharpness and contrast, and often creates a "blooming effect" under LED/sunlight making a device unusable in bright environments.
@@mini9503 no, glossy = glare, on anything other than a dark room. Its basic physics of lumens and reflection. You are right it's some displays with Matt screens equal of blurring effect, but that's not necessarily always the case. I can't remember what I saw her recently that was anti-glare and yet no blurring at all. The materials technology is there, the manufacturers are just trying to maximize their profit. @@mini9503 Why on earth would you prefer glare on your screen?
I don't think that many people are using laptops outside, that being said, we've all had to adjust the laptop indoors because it's catching a lamp glare on overhead light reflection.
@@BlackCeII NO, glossy =/= glare. Matte finish can be reflective and have glare as well if they're cheaply.
Glossy Anti-Glare is less common because it takes lots of skill and money to produce them. You find them on the most high-end devices only.
Can anyone answer me this: Will the 150W HP charger work in place of the 200W if I want a smaller charger for travel? I'm trying to find a compermise for no charging with thunderbolt available. I have the i7 3060 variant.
Hey bro, you make some great videos. 👍
I added a second SSD to the empty slot. It doesn't show up in the bios or Disk management. Any idea anyone? Thanks
I wish in the future Lenovo use Amoled display like this HP. I've been using Lenovo for many years already and kindly stick with it coz of keyboard and battery life.
Anyone know how much FPS this Envy Oled can handle??
Was literally just looking at this computer spec'd the exact same way you had it. Perfect timing! Haha.
