    Love the colours of your yarns! My winter makes centre around finishing WIPs old & new, but I also will be casting on 2 Ailbíona McLochlainn patterns: the Cutting Edge Vest (love the different options in the pattern,) and her Storm Hood. I’ve lots of warm Irish-wool yarn that will be perfect for the vest’s steering, and for a cozy Storm Hood. I’m still faffing about trying to get gauge for the vest, though 🙄

    • @KarolinesKnits
      @KarolinesKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gauge is such a faff 🫠 You're the second person to mention Ailbíona McLochlainn and in particular Storm Hood. Better practice my Irish pronunciation!

    One of my favourite sock patterns are the sleepyhead socks by Veranika Barel! They are in between fingering and DK weight and have a short row heel you might enjoy 😊 and for an easy but effective colour work sweater I’d recommend Niko Sweater by Karolina Adamczyk ❤ it’s stunning 🤩 I’m really curious to watch your stash tour video as I enjoyed watching the previous one 🎉 great knitting with you, Karoline! ❤

      Thank you for the recommendations - two patterns I've not heard of!
      I should probably finish it - I just ended up being unsure what a good format would be 🙈

    I am currently knitting on a " Wave of Change" cardigan/ jacket. it is a very lovely thick cardigan. I'm adding buttons (glitter sculls from danish maker Deadly Daisies) and plan to use it as a outdoor cardigan under a winterjacket / spring jacket.
    my recommendation of a shawl could be a single coloured " dotted rays" by Stephen West. its easy, fun to knit and easy to addapt to the wished size

    I love Ailbíona McLochlainn‘s „Integrated Heel Socks“. It‘s my favourite sock pattern, no picking up stitches, just smooth knitting!

    I also live in Scotland, my top recommendation for dog walking knits - or in my case goat farming knits as we also have to go out in all weather to care for them - has been the storm hood by Ailbíona McLochlainn. I wear a beanie hat underneath and then this on top, sometimes with a cowl underneath as well like when it was -10 C! I look forward to seeing your knits come to life this year!

    • @KarolinesKnits
      @KarolinesKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The goat farming sounds wonderful Becky! And so does the pattern which I've made sure to add to my list for dog walking knits for this year.

    While walking with my two dogs, I mostly reach for woolly knits as a layering piece between a t-shirt and my raincoat. I love using turtle necks like the Juuri Pullover by Anna Johanna, or recently for the Nostalgia sweater (also Anna Johanna), which I test-knitted for her. Both were knitted in a strand of Isager Tvinni and a strand of silk mohair . While the garments arent really wind proof, they work well under a rain coat. Otherwise I like my garmemts with long sleeve and cuffs, to keep my wrists warm in stormy and rainy weather (we also get tht in nirthern Germany quite often :) ). Colour work sweaters or cardigans work well, too.

    • @KarolinesKnits
      @KarolinesKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have added both of those to my list! I have been to northern Germany quite a few times actually - I've stayed in Hamburg, Lubeck and Kiel. I've loved all my trips!

    My pants are always cropped as well being that I'm 6'2🤣. I definitely want to make an oversized eclair for spring/fall outerwear when it comes out. I promised my sister a Dornie in a cream color, just not sure what yarn yet. After those two I'm thinking I'll be ready for a Seasons sweater or Cardigan by Ozetta.

    • @KarolinesKnits

      I feel your pain Teresa and I'm only 5'7ish! I don't know why they make trousers so short 😂 That sounds like some great projects - your sister is very lucky! I do love Filcolana Peruvian Highland Wool with maybe mohair or Camarose Midnatssol

    I've just finished my zipper sweater and I seriously LOVE it! It's going to be perfect for going on long walks.. And I have too many 2023 plans to all share in one comment, but I'm also planning on coming to Scotland in the Autumn of this year so hopefully I'll be able to shop some local yarn and knit with it

      I've felt shetland a few times and liked the feel of it - makes sense it would work well for outdoor wear. I will certainly keep it in mind.

    Love your podcast so much so I’m gonna be knitting my first ranunculus and I’ve got yarn for two more after that and I’m gonna do my first one in lace weight , mohair, single strand and the second and third in lace weight alpaca so it’s going to be gorgeous and then I’m gonna do a cardigan all of the lights.❤

    Love the knits you're planning on making! I'm hoping to try some snefnug this year. It sounds great. :)
    As far as keeping warm, I recently made Andrea Mowry's Nurtured sweater out of Lambs's Pride Worsted. It is the warmest sweater I've ever worn. It's smaller than suggested with only 2" of positive ease and I lengthened the body a lot to wear it with jeans without a gap. It's been great for layering under a jacket. For socks, I'm curious to try a pair that uses double knitting to make them twice as thick. I'm hoping that would make them warmer and stronger.
    And thanks to your podcast I'm currently knitting an Officesweater! It looked so amazing on you that I had to try it. I'm really enjoying it and think it'll be finished soon. :)

    Hi , I am making a Arctic light sweater by kutavakika, it’s my second top down knit, my first being a Ranunculus,which I love 💕.I am now a convert to knitting tot down in the round as previously I have always knitted flat and had to seam. I would also like to make a sweater for my husband, I was thinking maybe of a single malt ?? What do you think of this pattern? ❤️x😊

    • @KarolinesKnits
      @KarolinesKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like some lovely projects! I have actually never made a ranunculus, weirdly enough. I do like the look of them. I have always really liked the look of the single malt, your husband is very lucky ❤️

    Karoline, I came across your channel and I’m thrilled to find you! I understand you have been knitting for only a couple years? I live in Texas where few knit, it is warm here mostly year round. I learned to knit many years ago as a young child then laid it aside for crochet. My question for you is did you teach yourself all the stitches and techniques or did you have a person to guide you? There are no yarn stores near by. I order all my yarn from up North. I want to attempt a sweater but am concerned I will not be able to work through it.

    • @KarolinesKnits

      I started knitting in May 2020 - my lockdown hobby 😊 I knew how to knit knit stitches after being taught by my gran many years ago.
      I learned the basics from a website called Craftsy - it was a struggle to get my membership cancelled but their videos are very well produced. After the basics I have added techniques mainly from TH-cam. I really like Susanne Bryan - she is excellent at showing techniques and explaining. But you can always find tutorials for anything on TH-cam. Sweaters are much simpler than they look if you pick an easy pattern like a raglan - the most important skill is to be able to read your stitches. To this day I don’t have anyone close by to help so I still mainly figure it out that way and with time I’ve improved by doing testknits where you can often ask the designer.
      Good luck! Definitely give it a go 😊

    I completely relate to spending lots of time in dog-walking knits! I have made some beautiful sweaters with some gorgeous yarn. However, my most reached-for sweater is a Louvre sweater I made with yarn I bought accidentally ! I wanted to buy DK sock yarn for gift knitting Sunday socks a couple of years ago but didn’t realise about needing a reinforcing content … so I had 20 balls of Drops Karisma to use. I found the Louvre pattern and haven’t looked back! It’s not my softest sweater by far but it’s wearing really well and is great for home office working too. The high neck looks great on video calls!
    And for a shawl pattern, check out #zoebycecile.
    Happy Sunday !

      Ooooh that shawl is beautiful and would work so well! Thanks for the recommendation. I have looked at the Louvre sweater a few times and it does look so comfy. Maybe that'd work in the BFL!
