Those pumps drive me crazy: they leak long before they wear out. If you carefully unscrew the end you may find its the very poor gasket: seal with gasket sealer and you will have a good spare pump but watch the new one: I have had them leak from that gasket within a year.
The old railway bridge you saw past Newbury would have been the “Didcot, Newbury and Southampton “ line, which went through Winchester.. I can’t remember where you said the stoppages were, but would say you’d be better to make your way towards Devizes if you can. Lovely video. I see. Very clever. The Wey and Basingstoke involves going onto the Thames which is in flood for most of the winter, so not an option.
