I wonder, who are the trolls who go around TH-cam hitting thumbs down for excellent videos like this one?! Clearly this demo is outstanding! Thank you so much!
People are allowed to thumb down for whatever reason - they obviously have their reasons for disliking the video which they may not care to share. Trolls are people who raise arguments in the comments section just for the sake of creating an argument.
There was a cut in the video where he didn't show how he formed the lip on the opening, I wouldn't quibble with that, but perhaps more seasoned viewers found other things they didn't like? Each to their own, to date 823 have appreciated this demo so that speaks volumes...

I have my BFA in Studio Arts with a concentration in Ceramics but I have learned more watching your videos than I learned in 6 years at the University. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent with us. You are a rare treasure. And it is truly amazing how you stay so clean. I am usually covered in clay head to toe after a throwing session.

Having just recently watched your video on pushing out a 14lb piece of clay after using paper and sodium silicate (a wonderful way to get crackle without raku firing,) I am intriqued as to how you hold your hand inside whilst doing your pushing out. Are you using the side of your index finger or your finger tips? I know some potters will use a tool to do this process. Can you share how you are doing this.

I have been watching your video's for hours and I've never been near a potter's wheel in my life :D
Your calm concentration is very relaxing to watch, while at the same time it is exiting to see all these beautiful shapes take form.
I have to rest for a few more day's, so I will be watching some more.
Once I'm completely recovered I will have to give it a try myself, I guess :)

Great! I would love it if you could also try shooting from above your shoulder so that the viewer can imagine or view it from their own sitting perspective, and not a mirrored one. I often try and mimic my hands as I watch, but its harder to think in reverse. Thanks!
@Battlewear No, I didn't wait for the clay to dry more. I seldom do that unless I want to alter or stretch further ,and I would use heat gun instead of waiting for the clay to dry.
You have really influenced my throwing! I'm doing so much better, using less water and trying to keep the speed a bit higher while lifting. Thank you so much for sharing your talents! I can really see your gifts in my work! :)

so helpful...i always forget to compress the wall when im opening the clay :) i lose my center when i dont.

Hsin-Chuen, You really have great technique. I'm wondering if you were taught your technique when you first learned how to throw, or if you figured it out yourself? I've been throwing for awhile, but was never taught quite the technique you use. I just started watching your videos and have learned a lot. Thank you for sharing. I've been telling others about your videos. And I, too, love the overhead shots. Xiexie ni!
Is it my imagination or is the foot now much smaller than the floor you initially opened up? Does this ever give you cracks at that point? My guess is not of course but I had to ask. Very much like this piece and again, pleasure to watch you work. Thank you for sharing.

I have a question if you dont mind.. During the video (when you are throwing the final pot), there are points when the video cuts and then comes right back. I am curious, during those cuts, are you allowing the pot to set up more, to dry so that you can expand it further with out the chance of slumping? Its absolutely beautiful!! I have been pushing my own boundries trying to throw bigger, and pots like that only make me keep wanting to push!! So for that in it self, thank you!!
Is this porcelain that you are working on? Is that your clay of choice for all your work? If so, why? BTW -- love these videos!
Are you right handed? I am left handed and very confused because I seem to be using left and right hand techniques and U never have centred pots.
