Great experience many years ago, first in a wetsuit.

You said it's competitive to get in this career. How competitive is it? You also mentioned that to have a second trade in mind. What if you only want to do this job.

For "in demand" occupations you will get the position if you meet all of the requirements and testing. For competitive occupations like PID, we often have more qualified applicants than available positions. If you are not selected you can then choose to take a second choice or put your application on hold until more positions become available. If you choose to wait it usually works out, we don't actually end up turning many qualified people away, it just may take some time (like 1 year+).

Great video! I am considering applying for the Naval Reserve as a PID. However, the profession does not appear as an option in the CAF application form. Why could that be? Is the position temporarily closed? Does one need to transfer from within the Naval Reserve? Thank you in advance for any clarification. Again great content!

Port Inspection Diver is a Naval Reserve occupation only. In the Regular Force the diver role is called Clearance Diver. forces.asyncsoft.ca/en/career/clearance-diver/

How should one physically prepare themselves to take the dive course to qualify as a Port Inspection Diver? How many pushups, run times, situps, etc. I'm not worried about the diving aspect, more so the other parts that are required.

Be prepared for long days, lack of sleep, large volume of physical activity, and be ready to swim! I don't have specific recommendations for times or numbers, just know that it requires a lot of endurance. As far as I know you will not fail for not hitting specific times, but sometimes people are unsuccesful because they can't keep up with the overall pace and volume. There are some videos to check out like this one to give you an idea: th-cam.com/video/Pi1vDx3n-jE/w-d-xo.html
