- In the summer of 2021, ultrarunner Karel Sabbe ran the Via Alpina trail in just 30 days. Averaging two marathons on a daily basis, he navigated the route 14 days faster than anybody else. As well as the Alps, Karel overcame sleep deprivation, illness and extreme weather. And he did it all with a camera crew in tow, documenting every step.

Truely inspiring; the physical side of the project is one thing, but his mental spirit and his view of the world is extraordinary. Kudos.
Hey Karel, the point that you talk about feeling the tug back to society and community following the solitude and isolation in New Zealand really found me at the right moment. I'm an introvert and extrovert attempting to coexist in one body (with hilarious consequences), and forever being pulled between a desire to escape the modern world, be totally alone in a cabin somewhere and run ultras on the trails til I'm an old man, aaand being a city boy that loves company, my friends, and the hustle and bustle and chaos of the world. You really reminded me that there is something to be found in the inbetween, and that you can find and make that community in ways that also grow that love of peace, nature and running. Thanks friend, and amazing work finishing the Barkley. You're hands down my biggest running inspiration!
