  • Just a quick comparison of the Notch Gecko Quick Connect straps and the Buck Hook and Loop by Buckingham. These are most likely the style of strap you are going to upgrade to after the kevlar one's most spikes come with and having used them both I really feel that the hook and loop is the way to go.

    I was just about to purchase the Notch straps, but I am glad that I looked this up before I did. I will be getting the Buckingham straps. Thanks for the video.

    Great info, thanks. That Buck one is $100 in Canada. Crazy what they can charge for a piece of nylon and Velcro

      More in Australia. How do I replace the straps on the carbon fibre gaffs ? Drill holes ?

    Thanks for the video I just canceled the 65 dollar notch with the belt bucket and ordered the velcro strap Buckingham ones instead..just because what u say is true and I don't want the buckle hurting the top of my foot

      Yep, just picked up some Gecko Aluminum and Carbon Fiber and I'll be swapping the Notch straps for my Bucks.

      @@huffman150 how do you replace them on the carbon fibre distels ? They all glued on .seems like unless you start drilling some holes they might be throw away spikes .

      @@mikehunt2667 Sorry, I misspoke. I had the aluminum with fiberglass pads. I didn’t like them so I went back to my steel Kleins. Haven’t seen the carbon fiber ones up close so couldn’t say.

    The cobra buckle is for waists not feet. Totally ridiculous and adds a safely issue due to additional aggravation. Whoever thought of it is not a climber.

      if the buckle was on the side this would be a non issue

    To each there own def see the bennys of the all Velcro but saying the quick connects are to hard to unclip or adjust is silly simply taking the Velcro back off a smidge even allows you to pop them free the boots are a whole other subject but those all Velcro deals look awesome!

    How about changing the left & right sides, so that the quick buckle is at the back of your boot, instead of how you have them on the front of your ankle?

    Great video, thanks! Any issue with sawdust getting gunked up in the velco strap and the velcro not holding properly?

    • @huffman150
      @huffman150  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey. Sorry for the late response. So far so good. No issues with that. I always Velcro them when I take them off to avoid that.

      Moss gets stuck up in the Velcro. Sawdust is no issue.

    Yeah, the buckles don't seem like a good idea. Will cause a pressure point on the foot if worn tight and also won't release under tension. The NuGreen velcro straps look the most interesting to me.

      La sportive Nepal gtx. They are awesome but pricey. Try to find a friend with a pro deal.

      At my local Vermeer dealer, I probably should've said that. I see them for 55 on the Buckingham site. Even at the same price as the Notch, there's no contest, get the Bucks.

    The lower straps shouldn’t be that tight. The buckle would be fine if you didn’t pull it so tight

    • @huffman150
      @huffman150  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, I like to get them tight before I get in a tree. They loosen a bit anyways after you weight the spurs and start climbing.

    • @FT4Freedom
      @FT4Freedom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The lower strap does in fact need to be nice and snug otherwise your spike moves around. Especially when using low heel boots.

      I’m a lineman and I never get mine that tight I like them to move a little thay feel better
