No, he ain't dead, but many people who asked me the same question about Elton 16 years ago, are. I don't know why Elton would be dead! He is healthy, happy, only 62 years old and he has another 40 years in front of him of making great music.
No, I'll actually see him live in Germany next Weekend (4th & 5th July 2009) with his band. In October he'll play a handful concerts with percussionist Ray Cooper in France and Italy - and then follows The Red Piano-Las-Vegas-Show in Europe. During the summer season he's also on the road with Billy Joel in America. 4 different shows in a year - not everybody can do that! .. ;-)
Lost some people this year far too young. Finding out about two of them this week, this song came to mind. Always felt it was a strong one. Underrated album.
He wasn't famous but I sure did love him I've got his picture in a little frame He lost his life to a big disease before it even had a name But there's so many more and I've lost count The how's and whys aren't important now All that matters is they came around And brightened up our lives She was twenty one with her life ahead You don't need to know her name She breathed her last on the cold stone floor of a Hollywood arcade But fate's right hand isn't always just Puts a lot of pressure on your faith and trust She was just a little girl ain't that enough To rage against the day And how did we get so lucky? Targets on the rifle range Who makes the call and who gets to choose? Who gets to win and who gets to lose? It's like a rolling dice in the belly of the blues And blues never fade away Hey hey hey the colors run when the rain falls But blues never fade away He shone so bright with a lust for life Like the Sun King that he was His passions hung upon his walls and were printed onto cloth And for reasons I never understood About the choices made between the bad and good I've tried to figure out but The pain never goes away And how did we get so lucky? Targets on the rifle range Who makes the call and who gets to choose? Who gets to win and who gets to lose? It's like a rolling dice in the belly of the blues And blues never fade away Hey hey hey the colors run when the rain falls But blues never fade away And there's marble markers and little white crosses Along the beaten path And I've spread their ashes on the wind And I miss John Lennon's laugh And how did we get so lucky? Targets on the rifle range Who makes the call and who gets to choose? Who gets to win and who gets to lose? It's like a rolling dice in the belly of the blues And blues never fade away Hey hey hey all the colors run when the rain falls And blues never fade away
The Sun God reference is definitely about Gianni Versace. Bernie has basically said who the 21 year old girl is none of our business. Someone close to him? The first reference could be someone we don't know either but neither he nor Elton have said who's being referred to. Based on the lyrics it would have to be someone from the early 80s at the latest which rules out Freddie Mercury.
axltyler the first is Ryan White, a kid that changed elton's life. He became close to Ryan and he died with AIDS. The girl we don't know. The others are Gianni and Lennon.
This Song is epic. The whole album is brilliant. It makes me sad that this is so less known and underrated.
Wish he's sing the songs from this album more often as I think it is one of his best .
My favorite song from the album. Wish he would have sung my 2nd favorite song, And the House Fell Down, in concert.
Another beautiful song from Elton's classic album, Captain and the Kid.

Perfect. Just perfect.
Bernie. You are still a genius. Either in verse or prose you are the best.

Amazing! Beautiful song!
A beautiful song sang by a lovely person 💕❤💗
Funtastic live version - simply brilliant.
He wasn't famous but I sure did love him
I've got his picture in a little frame
He lost his life to a big disease before it even had a name
But there's so many more and I've lost count
The how's and whys aren't important now
All that matters is they came around
And brightened up our lives
She was twenty one with her life ahead
You don't need to know her name
She breathed her last on the cold stone floor of a Hollywood arcade
But fate's right hand isn't always just
Puts a lot of pressure on your faith and trust
She was just a little girl ain't that enough
To rage against the day
And how did we get so lucky?
Targets on the rifle range
Who makes the call and who gets to choose?
Who gets to win and who gets to lose?
It's like a rolling dice in the belly of the blues
And blues never fade away
Hey hey hey the colors run when the rain falls
But blues never fade away
He shone so bright with a lust for life
Like the Sun King that he was
His passions hung upon his walls and were printed onto cloth
And for reasons I never understood
About the choices made between the bad and good
I've tried to figure out but
The pain never goes away
And how did we get so lucky?
Targets on the rifle range
Who makes the call and who gets to choose?
Who gets to win and who gets to lose?
It's like a rolling dice in the belly of the blues
And blues never fade away
Hey hey hey the colors run when the rain falls
But blues never fade away
And there's marble markers and little white crosses
Along the beaten path
And I've spread their ashes on the wind
And I miss John Lennon's laugh
And how did we get so lucky?
Targets on the rifle range
Who makes the call and who gets to choose?
Who gets to win and who gets to lose?
It's like a rolling dice in the belly of the blues
And blues never fade away
Hey hey hey all the colors run when the rain falls
And blues never fade away
thank you. The first verse brings to mind Rock Hudson
now that Guy has died.. Elton sings this song now with a bit more anger it seems.
Wonder where was this live from? Beautiful song and very true as we go through life.
Elton y su arte de conmover...
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hey dudes - listen to Max Bresnahan's version of this song - done really cool...x
Anyone ever try to guess which personalities he's talking about? Janis Joplin? Freddie Mercury? Karen Carpenter?
