- Rainbow midges are some of my go to attractor patterns when fishing small midges for trout. They are bright, and shiny and just plain work. This is one tied very similar, but I added a ribbing with wire, and also used the feathers of my hen who died. I plucked her feathers for fly tying since they were so pretty. I figured I would honor her with a fly that matched her personality which was very flashy. She was loud, and would strut around as if she knew just how pretty she was.

Oh it’s just a bird. Sounds horrible but I mean we don’t raise these chickens like they are close pets or anything. They aren’t close like our dog or anything, but for sure a moment when I saw her dead I was sad. Mostly for my kids cause she was their favorite bird. She would come up to us first for food. She was loud and would call for more food. I’m glad you liked the fly. It’s not really a loss honestly though for me, but for my kids it is. They are super happy about these flies I’m tying because to them she lives on. For me, not trying to sound cold and uncaring but I’m kinda glad I don’t have to deal with her loud and obnoxious attitude. Haha!
When you first showed the fly I thought it had a red bead. Love our Solarez!! A lot of copper John in that fly also with the wing case and legs. I like it.
