By all accounts she should have been back to work the next day making superb BBQ ribs and tips, but life throws curve balls.
@@scottp5803 Exactly why we need to understand any surgery is a risk. Just as is a drive to the grocery store has risks. Tragedy happens infrequently but it does happen. A horrific example of that is shortly after the I-205 Bridge between Oregon and Washington opened, a speeding maniac's car hit another car sending it over the raid of the bridge into the Columbia River! Both women and all children died in that - parts of two families going home from a routine outing with no way to anticipate or prevent such a horrific thing happening - one moment laughing and talking and the next their vehicle plunging off the bridge into the river - no way to prevent or escape. Surgery patients are much like the two women and their children in the car that day - experiencing a routine event with no anticipation other than arriving safely at home when it's over.

I was 14 and walking down the street. Just as i approached the door of a bar, it flew open and out walked Dan Blocker I was instantly startled seeing this huge gentleman. Dan and I talked for a few minutes then both went on our way. It truly impressed me at just how soft spoken he was.
Very kind, contemplative, and "bookish" was Blocker, so said my dad, uncle, and aunt who knew him from elementary school and the Blocker store in O'donnell. In addition, my brother heard him publicly speak, in a classroom, at Sul Ross Univ. He said Dan's mind was deep seated and his voice projected well as a speaker which made him interesting. One notable family story, my dad said Dan was about 12 yrs old when working at his parents grocery store. He remembers Hoss as quite; hence, pop never paid attention to the kid. What caught his eye was elementary age Blocker bringing out of the front door of the tiny establishment a 100 lb burlap sack of potatoes slung over his shoulder to be deposited in my Grandads wagon. My dad did not believe Dan would make it to the wagon without dropping the load. To his surprise, he said the 12 yr old flipped the hundred pound load over the wagon sideboards into the back of the vehicle with little effort. My aunt had a story. She said he was teased a little for his propensity to carry books on his person Vs a baseball or such. My uncle said this was true, so he helped the young Blocker learn some basic fighting skills administered in back of the store with Mr Blockers permission. The next weekend after the lesson. My uncle said Dan met him with a smile and glee exclaiming: 'I licked-em, I licked-em!" I guess this was God's way of foreshadowing what was to come for Hoss.
As Michael Landon put it, when Dan Blocker died they all knew it was the end of Bonanza. When cancellation came after the 14th season none of the cast and crew were surprised. It just wasn't the same anymore.
I still watch Bonanza today! My favorite western of the era. And who doesn't love the character Eric "Hoss" Cartwright brilliantly portrayed by the great Dan Blocker. This video was jam packed full of relevant and useful information. Your narrative was smooth and well presented to make this an interesting and pleasantly watchable presentation from beginning to end.. Great job Uncovered Files ... whoever you are!!
LOL....................... Not that I'm really proud of it, but I binge watched All seasons of the Rifleman in about a months time (maybe a little less), and then all the seasons of Bonanza in about a 3 month period.... the last 3-4 seasons went fairly fast because the quality and poor story lines and comedy being interjected and fast forward spared me the agony.... Dad always watched it on Sunday evenings... I also watched every episode of "Gunsmoke", as THAT was my Grandpa's favorite show.. aside the Honeymooners (which I've seen every episode).... All very good shows.
That brought back a lot of memories for me.. back in the 1980s, while in incline village I visited the Ponderosa ranch on my honeymoon.. I enjoyed walking through the ranch and seeing the Cartwright home.. Through the years as we had children, we never missed a year.. The last time that we went there, they had closed the park due to lack of insurance.. I felt like the Griswold family😂 .. I was there with my 4 kids and wife. We haven't missed a year in over 10 years... The owner was nice enough to let us in after I showed him our photo album. My kids sitting on plastic horses etc. We had our own private tour.. He even fired up his BBQ grill and made us all HOSS burgers...
Its magical when the directors vision and the actors talent can walk in step with each other and get recognized by the viewers. Im older now and still enjoying what once entertained us..he's still my favorite television character.
My parents immigrated to America from Germany, I was five years old n I learned English just by watching bonanza, Dan Blocker was my favorite actor on that show. R.I.P. Dan Blocker
I was 9yrs.Old when Dan died, I remember crying over losing him, he was my favourite on Bonanza, my older sisters liked Little Joe, I couldn't understand till I turned 13, but Dan was the heart of the show. RIP Hoss Dan Cartwright ❤❤❤
Dan Lived only 1 mile away in Hacienda Heights where I grew up. We often saw him at local grocery stores. He was a very down to earth nice person. He was exceptionally nice. He in NO way was altered by Hollywood.
Thank you! Bonanza touched billions over the years! Had one brother who reminded me of Hoss in appearance, size & nature! Blessed by Paul. Blessed by Hoss!
What a marvelous teacher he must have been! He made a positive imprint on students, I have no doubt. That show was a moral compass for this country along with Gunsmoke. Once the Ten Commandments and Bible study were banned from schools those two shows and a few others were the way families connected and understood right from wrong. Hoss had tenderness, kindness and belief in hard work and play. He was the character we all wanted to know and spend time with. That is why Hoss and the real man, Dan Blocker are still missed today.
I remember as a kid we lived in Nevada and got to go to the Bonanza set and we got to meet Lorne Greene and Dan Blocker it was in the late 60's I still remember it.
As a senior now , he was and still is one of my all time favorites ,60’s were such a different time . 💞 Now my favorite’s have passed on , my family disappeared or passed also . I guess I’m just waiting now 🫤💔

So true how younger people like my brothers and I could relate to Hoss Cartwright during the early 60's when we watched him on TV and caused us to laugh a lot ! We loved his character in Bonanza which was emblematic of how he was in real life..! Loving and Kind to others..! God bless Ban Blocker ! We still miss you..!
Bonanza started when I was 5 years old. I vividly remember us sitting down as a family and watching it every week and it was a big part of my childhood. Little Joe was my first crush, but Hoss was my hero. As important as Bonanza was to me, I couldn't watch it without Hoss. The heart and soul of the show had left for me. It was shocking and so so sad.
I got to watch Bonanza reruns after school, before my mom came home from work. As I type this, I'm looking at my tin drinking cup from the "Ponderosa Ranch" theme park. It has a picture of Lorne, and the ranch house, and it holds small things I want handy. As I'm from Northern California and we frequently vacationed at Lake Tahoe, I was able to visit there a few times. Yes indeed, Dan Blocker was integral to the show. I did not know how highly educated he was, or that he was 6'4", and weighed 14lbs when he was born. Holy mackerel!!!
The loss of Hoss had a huge impact on the show. Even though I was young I was affected deeply and couldn’t continue to watch Bonanza. I loved all of the characters and the show itself, but the loss devastated me too much. It’s amazing how one person can have such a great effect on you. Bonanza was a dynamic show and I still love it. Thank you for sharing this with us. You did an excellent job. It is truly appreciated.
Dan Blocker was not only a likable character, but also ran two different steakhouses, Bonanza and Ponderosa. I had eaten at both as a child, while watching the TV series. A truly remarkable man!
Two great restaurants; but most of them shut down last year, I don't know if any are still open or not. That Wuhan Lab Fauci “Gain Of Function” virus shut down a lot of good old restaurants. Now we have dozens of Mexican and Chinese restaurants.
Dan Blocker was a great guy! I was very fortunate to meet him in 1964, in Eureka Califirnia at the Redwood Acres Fair. I was 12 years old at the time. He was walking with Barry Goldwater that evening. Blocker was just as awesome in person as he was on TV!! He certainly did a LOT in his 43 years!
I had the honor of meeting the entire bonanza people. I raced in the all American soap box derby. I placed third that year. The entire bonanza group was so great to me and all who got to know them. Mark kordon. Akron ohio.
Bless him.....loving theater so much but still working for his family and advancing his education. "Hoss" ,Dan Blocker was so lovable and irreplaceable.
Hoss was always my favorite, one because I was so happy and thrilled to learn that his name was Eric which is my first name. Although as a man I am much smaller in stature he is me and I am him. I remember being so devastated when I learned that he had passed and actually i still am. Thank you for doing such a wonderful and fitting tribute to such a remarkable man. Gone but you will never be forgotten Dan (Eric Hoss Cartwright) Blocker❤️
I really appreciate this highlight of Dan Blocker. As a little girl, Hoss was my favorite character. I was attracted to his gentle child like nature. When he died I was greatly saddened... I did not have a father growing up and he was my ideal father fantasy... strong, protective, and loving.
My brother and I were blessed as well to watch this giant man with a giant heart teach us what it was like to have a father (ours passed when we were 8 and 9 years old.) What a blessing for me and my brother to have a mentor as an example of kindness in every way, he was a wonderful pretend dad. They are both in heaven now and I hope they have found each other.
Having lived in Carlsbad, NM, I quickly learned that Mr. Blocker taught school here all those years ago & met people who knew him. He was treasued & they were very sad to see him leave. RIP Dan Blocker.....
No one could Replace Dan Blocker, He was a master at his craft. I miss him dearly, and wish I could have met him. He passed when I was 8, and never was to be. However I met one of his Directors, who knew him well, and said he was a pure delight to work with. His name was Richard Collin’s. Who worked with the cast, but said Dan was the glue that held the show together. He told me many funny stories of Dans jokes and shananagans, on the set at his home in Brentwood. He assured me if I met Dan, he would definitely have been my friend, he said that’s just who Big Dan was. Well maybe in heaven , our paths will meet, but he was one of my favorite actors on the set. My favorite episodes were ( Arnie, and A stranger passed this way. ) But I know if I ever did meet Big Dan, he would definitely be not a stranger to me. Rip Big Dan, peace to you and your Family, Matt🙏❤️👍
😅i was a kid born in '62 i remember loving that show & how much i mourned Hoss' Death. I wasnt as dedicated to Michael Landon until 'Little House on the Prairie & When he was an Angel on 'Highway to Heaven' !! Bonanza was like part of our family of 10 !!❤❤❤❤
Thanks for showing Dan with THE THREE STOOGES (Moe, Larry & Joe Besser) Didn't think anyone would remember his appearance with the trio. A true collector's item.
This video was a heartfelt and befitting tribute to Dan Blocker's iconic role as Hoss Cartwright. How I love Hoss! By the way, David Canary had joined the series before Dan passed away.
This is an AI spam video meant only to make the creator money, that's why he covers top 10's that are the same voice and inflection meant to clickbait and exploit. It's trash, this is using Dan Blocker's fame just for a quick buck.
Dan blocker was a gentle giant and a living legend who will be greatly missed by all. Sad that he left us way too soon. I will always love him. Ronald m
Thanks for posting this i remember watching these films ,all the bonanzas .with my dad . All three westerns were my most favorite.well acted ,an interesting . God rest hoss soul.
was born in ‘71 and he died in ‘72… never knew all those bonanza shows that l had watched when l was a kid, that dan blocker had already passed. never thought about death back then, never knew there was such a thing until you got older. he was always my favorite character on the show, loved the guy.
What a heartfelt tribute to Dan Blocker and the magic he brought to "Bonanza." Hoss Cartwright wasn’t just a character; he was the heart of the show, embodying warmth, humor, and a unique charm that only Dan Blocker could deliver. His "Dad burn it" became iconic, and his presence made the Cartwright family feel real and relatable. Losing him was truly a loss not just for the show but for the fans who loved him. Watching those reruns today reminds us of his unmatched talent and the joy he brought to so many lives. His legacy as Hoss will forever be cherished.
At a Western theme park in Western NC, called Ghost Town in the Sky, there is an autographed photo and news clipping about his visit there many years ago. That theme park is now shuttered. It was thriving in the 1960s and 70s. There was a gunfight enacted as a play for attendees. All that's long gone, half a century ago - back before the decline of the USA we've seen in recent years. Though you can still go to Dollywood in Gatlinburg TN, which is a lot of fun.
Miss that show, me now, 71 was 20 when "Hoss" died... never was the same after that. liked your video, although a little sad to relive that time... ty From SE Texas Home State of Hoss [Dan] always will be Hoss to me and my children. :) 💔💯🙏
The episode with Stella Stevens, who is such a raving Beauty in the episode, you can't help but fall in love with her I didn't know that it was after the death of Hoss. It was a great show, and I'm glad I was able to see it. All of the episodes were great. 😢😢❤
I truly grew up watching Bonanza. I was in 1st grade in 1959. I remember as an 8 or 9 year old fantasizing about being "Little Joe's" girlfriend. My bike was my horse. In 1973 when the show ended I was married and a young 1st time mother. So yes I did literally grow up with the Cartwrights. I actually met Michael Landon and Dan Blocker in Albany GA (my hometown) in 1962 or 63 when they came to Albany for the Georgia Sheriff's Boy's Ranch Telethon. I have their autographs. My memory of Bonanza is nothing but wonderful. They don't make good wholesome family TV like that anymore.
They said David Canary was brought in to "replace" Hoss, but that's not true. David Canary as Sgt John "Candy" Canniday, was brought in after Adam left the series. Candy was well established in many episodes with Hoss, Ben and Joe.
I was fortunate enough to have met Dan when I was a kid. He was really friendly and signed my picture Hoss. My favorite episode was "Hoss and the Leprechauns" which still makes me laugh when I think about it.
I love Hoss, love Dan Blocker. He was Bonanza, he was a gentle giant, body of a man with a bulls strength yet the heart of caring and kindness. His childlike manners at times with a simple but profound view of life. He was the best. RIP my brother.
I grew up watching Bonanza every weekend mom made popcorn and daddy always had an apple with it. I Loved Hoss,at a very small age I cued in to his humor but especially his empathetic heart that just made him so lovable. There was no-one like him, a rare diamond. I was 12 when he died and Ill never forget the shock or him.
He left a mark about heart and common sense. Whatever words we use let’s not take them so seriously because we loose the intention. It’s all about love.
As a young boy in the 60's. I never missed a show, Bonanza was compulsive viewing, and Dan Blocker Oss , was my favourite of the Cartwright family.. Dan left his family and this world way too early, RIP Big man !
I honestly didn't realize how much my brother was like Dan, my brother was 6'3" 250 lbs. of solid muscle, he played on the varsity team when he was a sophomore in high school, his number all 3 years was 58, he was in the drama club, he was in Concert Men's Glee, I was in Concert Girl's Glee, we were both on the speech and debate team, my brother was a year younger than me, we lived in Fontana, California back then. I'm the oldest and the shortest, I'm 65 and I'm 5'0" with my tennis shoes on lol.
Sometimes I am amazed at how serendipity manifests itself in my life. I was feeling nostalgic and figured I’d watch some reruns on TH-cam, Hoss was always my favorite, since I was the oldest and biggest one in my family. But, I just happened to read comments (normally I don’t and would never leave anything in the way my own comments. However, I felt I needed too after seeing your post. I was born and raised in Fontana, CA. In fact, it’s where I’m currently living. So in the spirit of a true bonanza fan…Howdy Neighbor!
I named our cane corso after hoss!! When I was a kid I watched it everyday with my gramma and gunsmoke! I still watch! I bought every cd I could find just to watch again and again! My two favorite showes ever!!!! Will be till day I die.
It was like losing a family member! I enjoyed Blocker playing Hoss. His likeable role and the way he played it bring back fond memories. It's hard to believe the starring cast is gone. TV reruns keep so many old stars alive. I'm sorry he passed at such a young age.
This series was not a normal western it was a drama and comedy and was about a family a man and his three sons and the stories surrounding their lives. Bonanza wasn't just a series of stories it was like a living book of characters and plays within the series it may of been a western but it was based in those old novels of Shakespeare and the original western not about guns or bad men though it had some it never showed them as being totally like most movie western did, but sometimes there's a few stories where a few darker stories did rise up in Bonanza at the end in the 70s because time were changing and the show took a different direction slightly. When Dan was taken before his time I imagine the series was going to finish a lot later and probably get a spin off or a retelling movie of the series with most of the original series cast members? Michael himself took off to do a similar series Little House and then later Highway To Heaven. But the series Bonanza was a nation treasure of the world a million fans across all the world it is a classic and Dan was just brilliant his legacy is Horse Cartrighte is his alone. If they ever did a movie 2026 I would say it would be hard to find anyone like him as a double probably? Bonanza Remembered never forgotten like every other western story series as they were the only best thing that were well acted and written and possibly deserves a timely reward on tv again their own channel Bonanza Western Television Channel.
Joan , bonanza was not the first TV show in color, the first ( I believe) was the Cisco Kid in the early 1950s, also a couple of episodes of the TV show Science Fiction Theater were shot in color, also the Lone Ranger Had color episodes plus the 3rd season of The Adventures of Superman was shot in color but released in B&W. All this before bonanza.
When Bonanza come on it was a family night that we all would sit together as a family and eat popcorn to watch the show. I think all families did that ❤

I was 14 and walking down the street. Just as i approached the door of a bar, it flew open and out walked Dan Blocker
I was instantly startled seeing this huge gentleman.
Great stories! Thanks!
@@imoses Indeed. Thank you as well, Chris.
As Michael Landon put it, when Dan Blocker died they all knew it was the end of Bonanza. When cancellation came after the 14th season none of the cast and crew were surprised. It just wasn't the same anymore.
So true..👍
Great chance if Dan hadn't died then, Bonanza could've stayed on longer than Gun Smoke, and been the longest-running Western series.
The cast still figured that NBC would still let them finish out the season though.
I remember rushing home from church every Sunday night to watch Bonanza. My family would gather around the TV and eat popcorn. ❤
Me too.
@@1956tojo I started at the beginning and I am on episode 130 on bonanza. For about the third time in 10 years. Then I start over. Lol
@@philipstanco6011 Never would I have thought I'd do that.... and gained 10 pounds I didn't need............
I still watch it too
That brought back a lot of memories for me.. back in the 1980s, while in incline village I visited the Ponderosa ranch on my honeymoon..
What fantastic memories!
How blessed! God was there with ya and so was HOSS
To this day people call big nice guys "Hoss" and that is respect ❤
I just remembered and realized that fact from when I was a kid hearing good big guys being called Hoss.
Will never forget good ol Hoss. When we lost him, it was my very 1st day of basic training. Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. 5-13-72.
I remember watching him when I was young, he had such beautiful blue eyes and a great smile. RIP Dan, we all still love you.
I always imagined Dan Blocker in the "Lenny" character of the book, "Of Mice and Men" he would have nailed it.
How many of you remember the Bonanza episode where Dan thought he could see leprechauns?! LOL
"Whoo hoo" "Where are you" "I'm up in the tree. Pa sent me to get you home for supper>" "Dad-burn it, Joe"
My favorite. Too funny .
@@dianeslocum4348😅
🌿Thank you, that was my favorite episode.🍀 Hoss kept saying "them little green men",.
I remember as a kid we lived in Nevada and got to go to the Bonanza set and we got to meet Lorne Greene and Dan Blocker it was in the late 60's I still remember it.
I was 10 when he died😢 my heart was totally broken😩😭
I was 13 years old when he passed
As a senior now , he was and still is one of my all time favorites ,60’s were such a different time . 💞
Now my favorite’s have passed on , my family disappeared or passed also .

I was a kid and Dan was like the Biggg Brother I Didn't Have !!! Thank You Biggg Dan !!!
I adored him, he was the only Bonanza cast member I cared about
Very nice tribute to Dan and friends. Thank you.
The truth of the matter Dan Blocker made the show not pernal Roberts ❤
And not Michael Landon.
I think they all done their part.
When I was a kid, no matter what we did on a Sunday afternoon, Dad absolutely HAD to get home in time for Bonanza.
😂😅😂😅😊
hahah still don't understand very well
Same here and we dare not interrupt him.
My Dad Too!!!!!
Everybody did.😁😁
Dan Blocker was a great guy!
My mother loved this show she watched all the time. Great memories.
LOVE THIS SHOW WITH MORALS , WHOLESOME VALUES AND SHOWS THE EVIL PRESENT TODAY AND HOW TO DEAL WITH IT !!
I will always love the Bonanza
💜@@kittydurfey3356 💜
Hoss was my favorite character on Bonanza.
😂😂 Michael Landon and Dan's interactions were always so funny. Michael being so much smaller than Dan, but he was still tough as nails.
I loved Hoss because despite being huge, his heart was even more huge!
@soulaesthete8563, yes, as I remember, he was the replacement for Adam.
This video was clickbait. Read the title again. Good grief.
This is an AI spam video meant only to make the creator money, that's why he covers top 10's that are the same voice and inflection meant to clickbait and exploit. It's trash, this is using Dan Blocker's fame just for a quick buck.
Yeah, the character Canady, or Candy for short was somewhat of a replacement for Adam/Pernell Roberts.
I always loved Dan Blocker most of all. He was a very special kind of man, very adorable. RIP ❤ dear Hoss.
He is missed, the days OF REAL ACTORS AND TV. Safe to sit your children in front of a television, not today !😖
Smart guy too. he had a Masters Degree.
He was a great actor along with the rest of bonanza. That was a fantastic Western series
was born in ‘71 and he died in ‘72… never knew all those bonanza shows that l had watched when l was a kid, that dan blocker had already passed. never thought about death back then, never knew there was such a thing until you got older. he was always my favorite character on the show, loved the guy.
I watch them today 2023! Reruns
Dan Blocker and Pernell were both great
At a Western theme park in Western NC, called Ghost Town in the Sky, there is an autographed photo and news clipping about his visit there many years ago.
Good one love this show I used to watch it all the time hoss was my favorite❤
The episode with Stella Stevens, who is such a raving Beauty in the episode, you can't help but fall in love with her I didn't know that it was after the death of Hoss. It was a great show, and I'm glad I was able to see it. All of the episodes were great. 😢😢❤
Love to watch Bonanza .Great show .
I grew up watching.
The cart rights Haas was my favorite. I never knew what happened but I was too Yung, thank you for showing this.
Blocker lived just about 35 miles north of me. Many famous people come from west Texas.
They said David Canary was brought in to "replace" Hoss, but that's not true. David Canary as Sgt John "Candy" Canniday, was brought in after Adam left the series. Candy was well established in many episodes with Hoss, Ben and Joe.
One of the Greatest Characters Television ever displayed
I was fortunate enough to have met Dan when I was a kid. He was really friendly and signed my picture Hoss. My favorite episode was "Hoss and the Leprechauns" which still makes me laugh when I think about it.
This was well worth watching and brought back what America was!
He was one of my favorites to watch, I really liked this show.
Dan Blockers death was such a shock. he was irreplaceable.
Hoss was the BEST !! RIP Dan, how we miss you.
Very well written and narrarated. Well Done.
Pffft!
Lovely tribute to the heart of the Ponderosa, Hoss Cartwright
i got to shake his hand. when i was 10. him and mike landon were at meet and greet at nicky chevorlet in Chicago in about 1968
I love Hoss, love Dan Blocker. He was Bonanza, he was a gentle giant, body of a man with a bulls strength yet the heart of caring and kindness. His childlike manners at times with a simple but profound view of life. He was the best. RIP my brother.
Bonanza could survive losing Pernell Roberts, Bonanza could not survive losing Dan Blocker. Hoss was the ❤ of Bonanza!
I remember when he passed away and I felt terrible because I had grown to love him so. RIP big guy 🙏❤️
I loved Dan Blocker. RIP
The first tv show in color...we had to buy new tvs just so we could watch it
Joan , bonanza was not the first TV show in color, the first ( I believe) was the Cisco Kid in the early 1950s, also a couple of episodes of the TV show Science Fiction Theater were shot in color, also the Lone Ranger Had color episodes plus the 3rd season of The Adventures of Superman was shot in color but released in B&W. All this before bonanza.

"Dan Blocker's authenticity in playing Hoss cannot be overstated"
Oh yes it can. By this point it has been over-overstated.
Still can’t get over that they’re riding the west in heaven .Still loved and missed.
As a child I loved the bonanza men doing the cartoon version of themselves in Flintstones..
When Bonanza come on it was a family night that we all would sit together as a family and eat popcorn to watch the show. I think all families did that ❤
