    Yes, this is what I’ve been doing, I bought my litter locker which came with one cartridge and have just been using small white bin liners or spare bags since. The refills are so expensive, so this is a great tip for everyone who uses one of these.

    I started using the garbage bag method (8 gallon Clorox)... which DOES WORK- BUT if the bag isn't slippery like the genie refill bags, the trap door won't closexall the eay w/o ripping the bag open as the bag & waste fill up and become heavy distorting the shape of the bag forcing it open. So I removed the two springs that hold that door open- it works just as good keeping smell out.

    We use wood pellets as cat litter. So we are able to do pretty long with one refill cassett. Because we only throw away the poop in the bin. We don't have clumped up clay litter.

    • @Floppycats
      @Floppycats  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's good? I am not a fan of flushing cat litter...

    • @jozina1
      @jozina1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@FloppycatsWe use a litter box that has a sive in the first box that's on top. And the woodpellets turn into sawdust when water/urine hits them so the sawdust falls in the bottom through the sive when you shake the box or when the cat is digging.
      I am happy with it because there isn't litter all through the house anymore that sticks to the cats paws. And there is no clay dust after I've cleaned the litterbox. I used to have a bad reaction to those with breathing.

    • @jozina1
      @jozina1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@witneyh9353 Hi, congrats on the new kitten! Hope they become a loved part of your family.
      The litter locker doesn't smell when in use. Only when you change the back or do a deep clean once in a while there is a smell.
      With the wood pellets we do have some more smell sometimes from the poop. But our cat is elderly and he has some problems sometimes with his stool. And olderly cats do tend to smell more than younger cats. There is no pee smell at all with the wood pellets! And I really have a hard time with dust that clay catlitter normally causes to be in the air. I don't have that problem with the wood pellets.

  • @jozina1
    @jozina1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The knife/scissor part at the back of the locker also easily pulls out on the one I have. And you can also put it back very easily. I always do it that way so I don't lose too much of the new bag. But I'm not sure if all the litter locker versions have this option of pulling the scissor/knife part out. We have a European one. But it's worth a try if you have one. Makes it so you don't have to pull the bag out any extra.

    The trash bags from Costco don't contain the smell though. The Doolie brand 7-layer litter bags sold on Amazon, work as well as the Litter Genie brand bags (they also sell a snap in top in case you don't have an empty refill) but are already sealed at the bottom, no tying necessary. You can get a roll of 25 bags for $14.99. For one cat, the small LG holds about 10 days worth of cat waste, so a roll lasts me 6+ months.

    I just scoop the cat litter into a regular trash can. The litter, plus our regular household garbage, usually fills the trash bag up daily, so I just tie the bag up and put it in the big bin outside to be picked up by our trash service. Same general idea as a Litter Genie, but without any high-priced refills or hacks needed. Plus there's no extra mess caused by trying to scoop the litter into such a tiny opening.

      @@Floppycats Yeah, Litter Genie would seek to enchumpen us by forcing people (via suing alternatives out of the market) to buy their tubes of plastic bagging at inflated cost. Screw that. To buy branded Litter Genie refills is to make oneself into a sucker, so overpriced their refills are.

    another idea, take a normal grocery bag and cut the handles, then tie the handle to the litter locker cartridge, and flip it inside out.

      haven't tried it, but could work - it wouldn't be long enough, so that could be a problem.

    Just gonna buy trash bags
    My cartridge didn't last nearly as long as I wanted
    Plus it should use less plastic using one giant box of garbage bags compared to all the packaging these cartridges use.

      yes, although you'll waste a lot of bag that way. you can buy smaller bags that might work. I love these FIRIK Refill Cassette Compatible with Litter Genie - floppycats.co/FirikRefills
