Remember, it's Marvel, but at the time this was produced, it was Netflix, not fully MCU. Marvel did approve, Marvel did sell them the rights, but it was intended to be a more gritty dark street level world. Fewer to no mid-battle jokes, no Tony Stark nicknames, and also the heroes can find themselves badly outclassed.

You will notice a great many parallels between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. Photonegative/Dark Reflections, but parallels, nonetheless.
