- For less than $5 you can easily build this self contained QRP Dummy Load for your low power ham radio rigs. Can be built in under one hour and complete details are in the video.
NOTE: THIS DUMMY LOAD IS FOR QRP POWER ONLY (LESS THAN 5 WATTS) AND IS NOT DESIGNED FOR LOAD ABOVE THAT RANGE. AS WITH ALL HOMEBREW ELECTRONICS; BUILD AND USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Your little miter box is now a collectors item since most are now an aluminum extrusion. Glad to see you back on, I was wondering how you were doing.

Galen, i've been away for a month or so. I "tried" to retire a month ago from work...was off two days and the company called and offered me some contract work for project management. So, shop time that I thought was here, will have to wait until the work projects are completed. All the best. ~John
I always enjoy all of your videos John. 72/73 from your neighbour to the north.......Brent

Thanks for watching and for your kind comment. ~John
the best dummy lao i make was a hot water tank or my electric stove in my house ,,i just hock up a cox RG 59 to my hot water tank or my stove and you don ,nice SWR and 8000 W
I am a complete tyro and totally unwise in these things, but i do have a question. Is there anything magical about the use of a copper enclosure? Since the power(and heat) dissipation is quite low could not NPS 1/2 or 3/4 PVC pipe be used instead. I ask because I have that around the shop now and would prefer not to purchase such a small amount of copper.
Thanks for your videos and considering this question.
Does it matter what wattage resistor I use ?

Thanks for watching. The larger the wattage, the more watts the dummy load would be able to handle. ~73/John
@@TinkerJohn_W5CYF I thought that was the case. My grandson and I are going to order some parts and start building one for are Sota rig.
