  • For less than $5 you can easily build this self contained QRP Dummy Load for your low power ham radio rigs. Can be built in under one hour and complete details are in the video.
NOTE: THIS DUMMY LOAD IS FOR QRP POWER ONLY (LESS THAN 5 WATTS) AND IS NOT DESIGNED FOR LOAD ABOVE THAT RANGE.

Very nice build! I build one and it looks awesome. With RG-58 soldered onto the board I now measure 51.2Ohm. Is this a problem or is it negligible? 73

Patrick, you should be fine with those numbers. ~John

Wouldn't it be simpler to solder Two Resistors in series four times and shrink wrap them individually, then solder the plus and minus ends in parallel. That would eliminate that bulky strip in the middle.

Thanks for taking time to send along your suggestion. Yes, that would work as long as the circuit is correct. ~John

+W5CYF/TinkerJohn Thank you for the confirmation. The circuitry stays the same as for series and parallel connection of resistors, just eliminating the board. I like the idea you have on using the .50 inch copper tubing and end caps. I wanted to try the same but didn't have a pref. board and didn't think it needed it anyway. If I can find a Threaded End cap solution without adding bulk to the outside, I would prefer that route.
