It is so funny, as your opponents skill improves the bar for being a complete psycho also changes. Your first placement match is always like “let’s pull a psycho move and expand in his back base and go ghost BC.” Once you start hitting high level GM it becomes “Guys I think I will do a psycho move of cutting an SCV for an extra hellion.” 🎉🎉🎉 love it!

Man... epic start into the second game, incredible defense by dark, then a wild jump into a macro game after throwing down two MULEs to get into the back-base. I kinda felt let down you didnt settle for a draw and instead attacked into him. Draws are so rare, its always so exciting to see them happening - but maybe thats just me. GG anyway!
When you started MULE mining the back door entrance I started grinning like an idiot the entire game. You lost that match but you definitely won the internet.
So, taking notes, my new strategy against World Champion Dark: - Wall off your natural; - Build 22 barracks; - ONLY build reapers until they nearly all die; - Expand to a 4th base, transition into marine/marauder/ghost/mine/medivac; - Starve him out; - Wait until he offers a Draw; - Actually accept the draw if it was me, I will take it. Sounds good for my personal achievement. Now I just need to actually manage to reach out to Dark to try it:p

GG! That game 2 was insane. Impressive you recovered to a draw, understandable you wanted more out of that game, but once you said he can't kill me and I can't kill him I realized a win wasn't in the books. Unfortunately he went for entrench and let you choose between taking a draw or a loss, but in a way a masterful mindgame because he did get you with that... xD

Anyways he has tunnel vision and he hasn't read Sun Tzu The Art of War so he's going to be doing this sort of "with the might of my mighty SWARM I WILL STORM THE CASTLE RAWRRRRRR～!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Right? RIGHT?? Like when you have other additional options available to him like just maybe a "Prolong Siege with spine/spore forest which eventually has upgraded Lurkers joining the siege!!!!! He could really drone up while maintaining a siege!! Yes it's actually really hard to balance in a precise way as to make just enough drones in order to still make the spine forest with spores when needed and the super mobile lings (kinda like shock troopers aren't they?) and the gradual eco progression which is going to farther supply your growing siege like containment of the enemy player. The balance between Static D, lings, and slow eco-growth is going to be key to victory here! And btw the balance between static D and lings is heavily sided on the static D side for the simple reason that they are also mobile Cthulhu like tentacles!!! How scary is that?? If there's any Unit in this game that can TRULY demoralize an opponent, it's the Spine Crawler!! When your eco grows enough, you have an interesting choice completely unique to the zerg!! That is of course the Lurker or the Swarm Host!! The GGLords ALSO count as a later late game-ish option as well. And also remember, you're not trying to storm the castle, you're trying to STARVE HIM OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is key here! Ya I know, what a novel idea isn't it? Actually laying a seige to win a tournament game even, how fun would that be?? Instead of the usual scripted GARBAGE we've been getting lately eh????? So yeah point is, if you truly wanna get good at this game, even though you'll will just be like "GET GOOD YOU STUPID NOOB LUL", well there ARE things you can do to get better, even if you lack the specific talent for playing an RTS game. Reading "The Art of War" is one of those things anyone can do to get that much better at playing ANY war simulated game rather it'd be the common RTS games or the 4X games or some other type of hybrid or something...

With the Ghost BC build, would shifting into mines once you had a decent amount of hellbats maybe have helped? You did have the Armory, and could perhaps snipe the overseer.

Dark is a pro gamer just like uthermal. Both are around the same in skills. Just a a game where an outcome is decided. More fun then a draw where both sides have so many units left
Haven't played sc2 in 5 years as well here. Was a random that loved cheesing into macro. Didn't make it to gm. Your ability to do all this and cast against the best z is incredible, entertaining, educational and inspiring. I'm so tempted to reinstall.

Next time you should draw, but instead yolo for TH-cam I want you to go all out. Fly every building in a concave, pull the SCVs, make a massive surround, spread out all the spell casters, and F2 A-move. Epic game! Could have been even more legendary since Dark was just chillin.
I never see Terran using their flying buildings late game. They are a resource like any other. They can be used to wall off portions of the map, fly above your army for spotting and making units hard to target. You had a ton of barracks that you would never use in the end. Use them.
i don't know if that's even possible but .. Can't you add tanks in your first game composition in order to counter the banelings ? it could also allow you to get blue flames wich could be great Or maybe some mines would do the job I love what you're doing btw !
In G1 vs Dark, I dont understand why you attacked his 3rd base instead of going back to the 4th and sending a hellion squad to the 5th. The creep spread at the 4th was recessed at the south. Sometimes like in G1 I see you try to attack down the middle and then get surrounded rather than continually going after expos. If you could comment on which bases to attack that would be great.
Just wondering if walling in an enemy second base and camping your units behind that would be an effective cheese. I am not a terran player, but it sounds awesome.

One of the best games I've seen. What did Dark say? I do think you should have went for 2+ simultaneous nukes when he had the entire map. It's such a pain to search the entire map for 3 red dots. You could drop them behind your main mineral line and force him to keep checking the entire map without finding it. Oh and dark should have pushed in so that you could have a game 3.
I feel like it would have helped Dark to have made swarm hosts instead of lurkers. Have I got that wrong? I'm sure it is, but I don't know why. Also like one siege tank, he would have to sacrifice a quarter of his army just to get it. He'd have to use a whole lot of infestors or vipers plus a lot of banelings to get rid of it, and he *has* to get rid of it or it will slowly eat everything he has on the ground.
Not to diss Marc, but Dark is a player so versatile that doesn't play just straight early aggro or late defensive games; he can aggro early and somehow transition into a winning late game. It is very hard to catch Dark off guard when you realized he doesn't have build order or plan like Lowko said "He just wing it" ; a testament to the sheer monstrous raw talent alone. Then comes the second game, Marc did caught Dark off guard and what's more Dark is hella enjoying the moment playing with Marc and even offers a draw, that Dark fcking sees Marc as equal even though retired and loves playing fun StarCraft2.

Can anyone explain why it's completely crazy to "swap" what direction you took? At that long game, 3-4 BCs seem to have been super useful to defeat the position slowly from a distance. Force them to come out with yamato. But I never see anyone change drastically their build even though its not even that much eco
I'd be willing to bet that when you were so stuffed of minerals and had kept up with upgrades you may have smashed him with marines using medivacs and PFs to smash his Ling bane

That's kind of what uthermal did by going into the main. There is no way to attack into that many Infestors, vipers, and lurkers without losing.

I feel like it would have helped Dark to have made swarm hosts instead of lurkers. Have I got that wrong? I'm sure it is, but I don't know why. Also like one siege tank, he would have to sacrifice a quarter of his army just to get it. He'd have to use a whole lot of infestors or vipers plus a lot of banelings to get rid of it, and he *has* to get rid of it or it will slowly eat everything he has on the ground.
losing a game that should have been a draw is a lot more disappointing to me as a viewer than drawing a game tbh

Not to diss Marc, but Dark is a player so versatile that doesn't play just straight early aggro or late defensive games; he can aggro early and somehow transition into a winning late game. It is very hard to catch Dark off guard when you realized he doesn't have build order or plan like Lowko said "He just wing it" ; a testament to the sheer monstrous raw talent alone.
Then comes the second game, Marc did caught Dark off guard and what's more Dark is hella enjoying the moment playing with Marc and even offers a draw, that Dark fcking sees Marc as equal even though retired and loves playing fun StarCraft2.

Can anyone explain why it's completely crazy to "swap" what direction you took? At that long game, 3-4 BCs seem to have been super useful to defeat the position slowly from a distance. Force them to come out with yamato. But I never see anyone change drastically their build even though its not even that much eco

This was the most bitchin' shit I've ever seen from any caster - I bet dark would even smile and tip the hat after watching this.
I'd be willing to bet that when you were so stuffed of minerals and had kept up with upgrades you may have smashed him with marines using medivacs and PFs to smash his Ling bane
Can you do a segment where you focus on getting max upgrades... like 3/3 as fast as possible? And/or commentary on how good/bad upgrades are? I know it's fairly complex but I'm so curious to know more. Thanks. Love the content!
