  • Today I'll be showing you how my little dragon fruit seedlings are coming along and we will be giving them a new pot and support. Growing dragon fruit plants from seeds can be super fun, they are a beautiful arty little cactus and it can take some time before they get going, once they do though, they will grow rapidly. We will likely re-pot these in a year or less to bigger pots. Dragon fruit plant is a tropical cactus that loves rich fertile soil and likes plenty of water, the fruits are very healthy and taste a little like a pear cross with a strawberry, it is a very berry-like texture. My Dragon Fruits are in flower again so in the next couple of months we will have a second crop of fruit which I will show you easily how you can grow dragon fruit plant from seed. Another name for dragon fruit "Pitaya" or "Pitahaya" growing pitaya from seed can be alot of fun and will be very exciting to see if and how they fruit in the future, stay tuned!

    I started mine from seed (yellow dragonfruit) christmas 2022. Mine started thin like this maybe a little thinner but i cut them up and propagated them and now i have a whole seedling tray of 4 inch pots three times the size of yours! They grow exponentially faster when you cut them ime

    How long do you think until you'd start seeing fruit - another year or two? Be great to see how the fruit size and taste compares with the one you got the seeds from.

    • @GreenthumbsGarden
      @GreenthumbsGarden  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I imagine so yeah. Yes, it will be super interesting to see if there is much variation in the fruit. We have fruits on our mother plants again so we will plant some more seeds in the near future. It will be interesting to see if different seedlings will perform better in our climate than others.

      When I bought the plants it never said what cultivar they were, I even tried tracking down the supplier but to no avail. the fruit I got last year looks very much to Vietnamese White and the plant it's self looks similar. Take a look at the eating dragon fruit vid I did and tell me what you recon? That's what I took the seed from.

      hey Alex, no worries. I have no seedlings growing at the moment so will not be able to make a video. If I was you I would separate them carefully using a fine nose tweezer, the roots will likely be very small and wont take a lot to just re position them in a seed tray.
