As an alumni of a selective entry school, I definitely enjoyed my time there. No doubt it's a very competitive environment, but I feel the competitiveness comes less from the school or teachers, but the students themselves. After all, all these students are all selected solely on their academic abilities (with some exceptions), it's natural that you will end up with a group of academically inclined students/teenagers who thrive on competition. Not everyone benefit from this type of education, however, so parents would need to understand how their child learn best.
Don't think too much about the ranking of the primary schools ! Closer is better ! All primary schools in good suburb are good. I think the primary school is more like a community you meet other parents living in the neighbourhood. And kids can have friends nearby.
As for been accepted into Medicine from ANY secondary school you still need to pass the UCAT tests and most Universities requires an interview process as part of their admission to medical School, so been in a Selective School doesn’t given you any special treatment or advantage in that sense.
如 Carey Baptist in Kew/ Camberwell Grammar. Prep-year 12. The Good Shepherd Lutheran Primary School 加 Luther college 係 Croydon.
Don’t agree with your assessment of the Selective schools. They are far from high pressure and high homework loads. The are among the top schools academically because mainly “Academically Gifted” students can go into them, in fact, they are basically the top 5% of students in Victoria. They are only high pressure for those students that could only get in by intensive tutoring. Those Selective Schools do have accelerated learning where “Borderline” students will find quite demanding. The main purpose of the Selective Schools are to train Gifted students with character building and leadership skills. Many of their alumni are The Who’s who of Australia. Selective Schools are definitely not the type of schools you want to push your kids to go to, they must have the ability and are capable of fitting into their culture first. There are many students that gets into a Selective School and leaves within the first year.
First of all, Thanks for watching the clip and leaving valuable comment. I believe those selective schools were established as what you said for those gifted students with talents. They can manage the workload and maintain their study-life balance. However, from the observation in the last 10 years, sadly that many students were honestly suffered a lot as what you said, they might leave the school within a year. As they got pushed in by their parents with intensive and non-stop tutoring. But also there are a lot of those who didn't leave but actually not as gifted as the others. They keep the full day tutoring during the weekend to catch it up. I so agree with you that, parents shouldn't push their kid to these school if they are not good enough. But you can see there are so many scholarship tutoring programs in the market nowadays to advocate this idea. Very sad but it is really happening. To reply with the medical schools offer, I was shocked when I heard that too. That was the 1st hand information from a student I know from Melbourne high 5 years ago. I wasn't as smart as you are so I didn't ask how to get in and so on in details, Eventually, that person didn't get in as he couldn't meet that score. But one of his friend did get into Monash with that conditional offer as what he said. So believe it or not, it is all up to you. My friend who was teaching in Mac Rob, She quitted her job because of the workloads that she couldn't cope with. May be she is not good enough in coping stress. But I guess to be able to be a teacher at Mac Rob won't be easy and not everyone can get that job too. From what she said, she received more and more non-assigned writings from her students that she didn't have enough time to correct it or even to check it. For a long period of time like this, she decided to quit. As a friend, I think it is very pity too. From all the experiences from them and knowing a few students in these schools who are still doing non-stop tutoring. I do really think these schools are quite stressful in a way. Maybe they are just not the right person to be in these schools. But if like what you said, the student should be talented enough to be there, then truely it won't be an issue. But you are so right, the selective school is definitely not the school you want to push your kids in. I surely agree.
@@beefamily-09 Thanks for your reply, my son goes to one of those Selective Schools and he didn’t received any tutoring to go into them nor does he do any outside tutoring while he is at the school. We petty much leave it to his own device, it is true that he has to manage his own way though school and even though the teachers are great (Many of the teachers are highly qualified with some teaching part time at Uni) it is up to the students to keep up. My son is one of the few that is lucky enough to be able do a Higher Education Subject next year in VCE that counts into Uni credits in Year One Uni. He had seen some students that left the school after the first term in the past and some that were asked to leave after the first year because they were not up to standards. Overall, Selective Schools are more for character building than just good academics. My son was involved in things like Air Force Cadets Which gives them great Leadership, physical and mental training. By the way, your videos are very informative and very well made, looking forward to your next installment.

跟學校改school zone 以外地方會否被開除學藉呢?thank you very much!
BeyBlade; Pokamon Card, Pk xd, Roblox ...etc
