    I'm always surprised to find random videos that link to my own videos. Keep up the good work!

      Hey this is a surprise for me as well. Thanks for the encouraging words, I appreciate it. I'm glad to see Crusader fans pop in here. ✌️

    One of my favourite action games with a killer soundtrack, especially level 1 and the base music. (Still have it on my playlist in the car) Hence my avatar for the last 20+ years.

    • @VoidbrandGallery
      @VoidbrandGallery  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Crusader definitely has rocking (and memorable) tunes. I never had the soundtrack to both games downloaded until I did this video, but they'll never leave my SSD and backup drives.

    The weird weapon types (especially in the sequel), death animations, the mechs, the music, and of course fantastic graphics for the time..... This game was absolutely amazing. Got it as a random buy back in the day. So glad I did. I still absolutely love the music.

    • @VoidbrandGallery
      @VoidbrandGallery  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I still think the graphics hold up pretty well. The music begs to be on peoples' repeat, very memorable. They don't make good video game music much anymore.

    This is Tony Zurovec's game. He now works at CIG with Chris Roberts on Star Citizen. One of the planets in Star Citizen is called Crusader.

    My dad was obsessed with this game back when I was a kid. I watched him play thru the entire game.
    I've only played it briefly myself, but I need to play thru it and it's sequel here sometime soon.
    Fantastic video. Really enjoyed it. Especially seeing that old Gravis Gamepad!!

    • @VoidbrandGallery
      @VoidbrandGallery  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome to hear from more Crusader and Suikoden fans. I really thought I had my Gravis gamepad somewhere, but I guess I misplaced it from moving over the years. 🤷‍♂️

    I remember doing Crusader: No Remorse/No Regret and Gender Wars at the same time. That was good and fresh games between my usual RPGs play (Terranigma, Lufia II, Suikoden, Wild Arms, Final Fantasy VII, Shining Force 2, etc.) ... good old memory.
    Games release date in my country were weird ... ;)
    Merci.

    I played that game as well, it was much fun and i loved it. I've hacked the game multiple times, for infinite life/ammo/whatever until I've come to a point, where I've understood how Crusader works. I tried to create a new mission/level for the game, but "unfortunately" Quake1 was released and I got carried away quickly.

    That song that plays when you refer to the OST reminded me of another acidy 90s game OST, the music from SCORCHER, where you race around in hover bikes surrounded by globes of green lasers.

    • @VoidbrandGallery
      @VoidbrandGallery  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just looked it up. OST sounds great, I probably would've gotten into this one back in the day. Actually never heard of it. Looks like they have a Sega Saturn version too.

    The controls become a lot more intuitive once you use the numpad like the manual suggests. I actually kinda like them.

    • @linuxgameplayxp6246

      Yeah, the numpad is the way to go.

    • @Pythoner

      or once you figured out the PS1 version's controls are a mile better than the PC confused mess

    • @joe--cool
      @joe--cool ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Pythoner I don't know. I like the blood splatter and the transparent walls of the console versions but not being able to scroll the view or slow step forward or needing two buttons for most action made it unplayable for me.
      I guess if I got the PSX version first I might like it better even if it runs at half the resolution of the SVGA version.

    I bought this a year or so after it came out for the PC. It was good but my machine, a 486/SX 66MHz with 20Mb RAM, just couldn't handle it. I got it for the PS1 on sale and played that version. While that port lost the FMVs it did offer a control scheme with controller that made the game a LOT more playable. I beat it over 3 or 4 days in college. I totally recommend finding the FMVs online and watching them but playing the PS1 port for the easier controls.

    I remember back in the day I could not run this game properly on my PC, It always crashed very early after about 30 minutes in. It got me so frustrated as a kid because I wanted to play this badly, it was so cool and advanced for its time. I should pick this one up now I finally am able to run it.

    I think I got this game for a birthday when I was 8 or something. Big awesome cardboard box with art and pictures all over it. PC games were so cool back then. Did you play Ultima 8: Pagan? Same engine and movement generally. Game had a very unique atmosphere.
    These videos are good by the way. Getting a Civvie vibe in a good way, attention to detail for example, I played the hell out of these games and can see you have too.

    • @VoidbrandGallery
      @VoidbrandGallery  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely. I misplaced the smaller CD boxed version over the years, but managed to snag another one awhile ago (leaving with me with 2 Pagan discs). I'd love to do a Pagan retrospective eventually.

    PC Gaming had voice acting quite early :-). I mean 1992 already had games with voice acting, Dune 2 intro was voice acted. Plus 1993 we had 7th Guest, only the consoles were behind the times :-P

  • @jothain
    @jothain ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Biggest annoyance is the clunky controls or movement to be exact. Area limits are quite small and character behaves quite "jittery" when collidinh, but it's something player will adapt to during gameplay. Also numpad controls are imo by far the best choice to get easy rolling and strafing. Soundtrack is awesome (surprisingly varied too). One of the most memorable levels is that office. People screaming in fire, pumping soundtrack and really nice glass shattering effects have stuck on me. Should try that ScummVM support how it playes. Been thinking about it for months now. Also that difficulty, definitely pick mama's boy and nobody should try that hardest one. It's I think the hardest I've ever experienced in any game. Highly recommended and fairly little known gem.

    I never play this game. I played its sequel Crusader no regret. This was my first PC game. It came as a bonus for buying Creative cd-rom. So, Crusader game has always a special place in my memory. Unfortunately, that game was too difficult for me. Adding that with keyboard only control. So that game was difficult both in gameplay and control. I had to use cheat to play it.
    For memory sake, I love to play a reboot of this franchise if it has a gameplay and control like The Ascent.

    • @VoidbrandGallery
      @VoidbrandGallery  ปีที่แล้ว

      No Regret was my first game too. I later played No Remorse on PS1 as a kid. And yeah I remember both games being very difficult, I used cheats in both, or at least No Regret. Still had a lot of fun though.

      I've been hearing the numpad is better. I'm not sure if I tried it (if I did it was a second or two). I got used to these controls and didn't feel like switching over I guess.
