Gothic II Classic | Piranha Bytes Best (No NotR)
มุมมอง 1.6K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
Let's Play: th-cam.com/video/qfhLL-GsBPU/w-d-xo.html Yet, another ramble. About one of my favorite CRPGs of all time next to Ultima VII: Gothic II Classic. WITHOUT Night of the Raven. Gothic II released in 2003 in NA, being pretty much the same game with some extra skills to learn, and two whole, open-ended maps to explore and lose yourself in. Gothic II is Piranha Bytes best game, with great c...

Just a video on Gothic I where I literally ramble about it for about 17 minutes. Developed by Piranha Bytes and published by Xicat Interactive in North America, Gothic I and its sequel are some of the best CRPGs released, and a lot of people consider the first two Gothic games as Piranha Bytes best entries. I didn't play Gothic I first when it came out, Gothic II was actually my first game. I s...

SPOILERS within. Time for another ramble about another classic first person dungeon crawler: Ultima Underworld II: Labyrinth of Worlds. System Shock Remake Review | A Shockingly Good Remake
มุมมอง 3.2Kปีที่แล้ว
A System Shock Remake review of a game that is almost 30 years old now. Old school fans of System Shock would be happy to know that the remake is a 1:1 in almost every way. Might be a little too faithful some would say, so no quest log on your screen telling you where to go or a waypoint on the navigation bar, at least on normal mission mode. A very good remake I'm hoping to replay sometime in ...

EIZO S2133 Monitor Review | 1600x1200 4:3 Retro Gaming
Thank you so much for this video. Very few reviews around, so much appreciated! Extremely expensive, but one of a kind these days sadly.
My first playthrough of this game when I was 12, I skipped the main town to the north. Just kept walking north and then found the flying carpet up there and I thought I found the coolest treasure ever. I could just fly anywhere! Was sometimes tough to get party members to fit onto it haha
Still have both games in the original big boxes.. pretty much bought them on first day of release and absolutely loved them both! Thx for the great video and memories!
You can tell Elder Scrolls: Arena ripped that map system off of UO lol. I believe they came out 1 to 2 years apart, despite Julian Lefay getting the idea for Arena before he knew of UO.
People hyping these 4:3 lcd monitors is such cope lol you know y'all want a crt
I absolutely loved this game and Ultima IX: Ascension.
i understand not releasing it when physical media was how the games were distributed, but now with Steam, GOG, Origin, etc?? they could drop it for free and make some money
try drova forsaken kin, it is basically gothic but in 2D, it's very good!
I loved Ultima IX. Didn't bother about the Mandrake, because I found a spot where all reagents can be created by a spell. Create Reagents usually only creates Black Pearl, but in the Yew Moongate you can get all eight.
Hi! What's the name of the song that plays between 0:42 and 3:36? It's awesome!
Rebel Base 1 from Crusader: No Remorse. th-cam.com/video/KNZo8fuSKhY/w-d-xo.html
@@VoidbrandGallery thank you! I played the game itself in the past, but without a sound card : )
Great review, thanks for posting this! It's nice to hear that perspective on why a 4:3 monitor is desirable. It actually surprises me how many people are totally cool with jail bars hugging their frame--it'd be too distracting for me.
You're welcome. Appreciate the comment.
Just finished the game in stream a few days ago, and need to continue learn things about this game! Great vid!
One of the greatest games ever made. I played this, the second, and Ultima 6/7 (and pt2)/8/9 and they will always be the pinnacle of gaming for me.
Best game ever made for me. Nothing will ever match the atmosphere and music, the feeling of isolation and despair that this game offers. For all it's flaws - and there were lots - it was just the best experience for a young kid. Played this exactly 30 years ago when it released. Olden and golden now. Completed over 1000 games on various platforms.... including the greats (most recently BG3, Ghost of Tsushima, Cyberpunk 2077 etc.) But STILL this is the game I hold atop that gaming pedestal. Ultima 7 is a super close 2nd, followed by Ultima Underworld 1 and 2, Wizardry 6, 7 and 8, BG2 (Irenicus is the greatest villain ever.....) Planescape Torment, Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 and Eye of The Beholder. Honourable mention to Ravenloft Stone Prophet, Lands of Lore, Dungeon Master and Arcanum. They just don't make them like that anymore.
I used to play this as a kid, i bought this for my pc but to my surprise it was on a game emulator I recently bought
U8 Pagan was my first foray into the world of the avatar and I loved it. I get that it was a departure from the franchise standard on many fronts, but something about the story and theme captured me and really had me engrossed in it. The small island community that was festering from its isolation and tyrannical leadership, the hidden dangers that made living outside the walls of the city pretty much impossible. Add to this the gameplay effects of being able to touch/wield everything from giant swords to basic cutlery and fish, and the surprisingly highly detailed graphics of the landscape and buildings. It's how I wanted ultima online to look, but sadly when I got to UO it think it was already the third age and had a bit of a facelift. If I get to build a 2d iso mmorpg it will have pagan style graphics that's for sure.
Ultima 7 is my favourite game of all time, but 8 is my second favourite. For all its shortfalls, the atmosphere, music, and general feeling of the unwelcoming and unforgiving world make it a timeless classic. I don't care about all the issues it had, as a kid I became the avatar and lived the experience. Got up super early day after day to play it. Replayed it several times as an adult too. Just wonderful.
Dungeon Hack
Yep
8:00 The game was designed first and foremost for the mouse. If you are constantly using the keyboard for movement then you are playing it wrong and I do not say that lightly. You have to fight your modern instincts and trust me on this matter. Play with the mouse and avoid using the keyboard when you can. Only use the keyboard for jumping, looking up or down and inputting specific things like numbers or words when the game needs you to do so. Otherwise, this adventure game is point & click, getting the full use out of that new fangled "drag & drop" technology of the time
I love this game.
Nostalgic video. Suikoden is one of my favorite game on the PS1.
o7 until you decide to come back
Don't do anything you don't want to do, mate. But if your passion for this returns I'm sure you'll be welcomed back by a small but fierce group of people.
You're not beholden to anyone so do whatever gives you meaning. Staying subscribed in case you come back.
I would love to own one but its bugs me that it's only 60hz. 120hz is a maybe for me but at 240hz it'd be a yes from me.
The Japanese PS1 port of this game has a complete text translation now. It's the same game, but with controller support and a slightly different look. Might be a more accessible way for some people, as there are some real benefits to playing on a controller, among other enhancements.
I don't mind watching different videos covering the same topic. Especially if they're at least longer than 45 minutes. Retrospectives are evergreen, and are very important snapshots of history.
I absolutely LOVED Ultima VII, and I got it on release weekend. I had endless trouble getting it to run because it wasn't known that it crashed on 386SX computers (it ran on 386DX). I still played it through even though it would crash about ever 20 minutes or so. That being said, I disagree with your assessment of quest markers being a detriment to games: I'm 46 now, I have ADHD, and it's incredibly easy to forget what my next objective in a game is if I even take a couple days off. Gaming is my favorite hobby but I have so much more occupying my brain space these days that I can't necessarily remember who told me to go where and talk to who about what... I'm playing the Trails series of games now, and I'm very thankful for quest markers.
i did snatch an Eizo FlexScan S2133 in white for 50 bucks im in retro heaven
The white looks very nice. Enjoy it. Playing native 4:3 games and retro games on this display is something else.
Just found your videos because I was on an Origin nostalgia kick and thanks for your effort. You made some great retrospectives, and you have a very pleasant voice to listen to. Your videos always felt like a celebration of the games you covered, warts and all, instead of just constant, tiring grievances. Good luck in everything, and thanks for the great videos!
You're welcome. Appreciate the comment.
Just scored one on fb marketplace for $5 last week. 🎉
Excellent. That's a big score.
This is my first comment ever in youtube, even though i've consumed videos more than i can count! I was looking today some nostalgic playthrough- or review-videos about Ultima underworld and found your gem of a channel! Wow you really nailed it all - especially I highly enjoyed your episode on Ultima VIII, which pretty much hit the sweetest nostalgic spot of gaming history in my life. I've played a great deal of different games, but for some reason Ultima 8 and Syndicate have been shining stars - my big brother still plays UW and U8 :D Anyhow, i totally get you and wish the very best luck in your future! Competition in youtube is harsh, but you are a rare game and these videos will live forever :)
thank you for the videos you did give us, they're some of my favorites talking about older games
i hope to get one of these
That is very unfortunate, lack of motivation is the worst. I've hit the exact same wall before many times. I very much enjoyed your videos and hope maybe one day you feel inspired again.
Moral of the story, Ultima 7, 8, and 9 were all fever dreams the Avatar had as they died, because the Guardian, EA, killed Ultima.
I really like your let’s plays you have a calming voice perfect to listen to while I’m painting Warhammer . Which is rare in the chaos of twitch streamers. It’s also nice chatting to you live . Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to catch any of your life broadcast as TH-cam never tells me and I believe you don’t do twitch anymore .
Hey thanks. I just haven't streamed in general in a few months. I'm looking to do it on TH-cam instead of Twitch. And it's probably going to be on a whim instead of consistent scheduling. Definitely want to stream something for October.
You seem like a nice guy. Creativity isn't a persistent force for most people. Don't be discouraged by the fact that making videos doesn't engage you right now, it happens to everyone that makes things.
I had a Gravis Gamepad, but I always used it with the Stick, while my sister would take off the stick while playing Fighting games like Mortal Kombat. I actually honestly wish it had a Thumbstick now. I was too much of an Arcade kid, so I liked using a stick rather than a pad. Actually now that I think about it, my sister would play Fighting games in the Arcade against others, but would use the D-Pad at home. Also she was really good until she got into High School and declared that Video Games were for babies, and stopped!
That's unfortunate. I just subbed. Guess I'll unsub. Bye.
Thank you for the videos. It really helped me relax! I owe you a beer. Good luck and God speed
You're welcome. Cheers to you.
This was good while it lasted. But if your heart isn't in it anymore, that's perfectly fine. Your Ultima Underworld video is still peak.
Sorry to hear this. You were doing a great job. I really enjoyed your videos, and could have seen your community really growing. I hope one day you will reconsider. In the meantime, thanks for your content and all the best to you!
Best of luck in the future. The reviews were very enjoyable, especially for these kinds of games that have a surprisingly cozy feeling to them.
To be honest, I didn't know you had a Let's Play channel, so that's a definite subscribe. It's a bit of a shame that you don't intend to do anymore reviews. They were fun to watch, and I appreciated them, but I understand that a lack of motivation can suck the life out of any project. Nonetheless, I do hope you get back into reviews one day, even if it is years from now.
Shame. Your channel is this cozy niche. Hope you return one day.
It happens; I experienced similar things last year. You gotta pay attention to the signs you're getting.
"Have at you!"
Completely understandable. I really liked your videos. Although its not my thing, i wish you good luck with your streaming.
Thank you Void, I wish you the best. I really enjoyed your videos!
