    1:30 take note that the elves were immortal, and were able to respawn infinitely therefore death or murder wasnt even a thing anymore
    this destabalised the death realm and thus became the warp
    but the death cults became a thing because death didnt exist anymore
    this is also how slaneesh works, she just is the incarnation of this sexual death cult, but while it is no longer viable in the new universe, she still tries to realise this scenario in a world that can no longer sustain it
    Hence why she is so weak, her whole design has become obsolite when she was created

    • @jutton11
      @jutton11 2 ปีที่แล้ว +87

      "So weak" is a pretty massive oversimplification. While Slaanesh has less raw power when compared to the other chaos gods it does have the most insidious powers, able to corrupt far larger swathes of people. Slaanesh is also the most adept at turning the other chaos gods' acolytes into its own, which is why the other chaos gods spend a lot of their time bullying Slaanesh, their worried it would win in a war between chaos.

    • @spacepope7867
      @spacepope7867 2 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      Slaanesh is also powerful how they pull power from the acts of all the followers to the other dark gods.
      "This is due, in part, to the fact that all the Chaos Gods embody the excess for which Slaanesh is known: Khorne with his bloodlust, Tzeentch with his scheming, and Nurgle with his spreading of plague. Each is an obsession that Dark Prince can turn to his will with merely a whispered promise. Lurking deep within the psyche of each of his brothers is the suspicion that the influence of the Dark Prince is rapidly growing, and that Slaanesh will perhaps one day eclipse them all in strength. With this thought in mind, any alliance of convenience with Slaanesh is especially short-lived; while this could be attributed to simple distrust of one who changes sides at a whim, there is an argument that the Dark Prince’s rivals fear the secret power he holds over them."

    • @TheRandomMuffinMan
      @TheRandomMuffinMan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Not really true. Slaanesh has the most potential out of the other chaos gods and is rapidly growing. It's what makes it truly dangerous.

    • @azarshadakumuktir4551
      @azarshadakumuktir4551 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Well the thing with Slaanesh is... It is weak while everything is shit, the more there is war and people die, the weaker it is. That is why 40K is the era of Khorne and Tzeentch because it is one of eternal war and chaotic change. Yet if things would get better and peace would settle in, like it happened under the Eldar, than Slaanesh's and Nurgle's power would grow... There is no setting that weakens all chaos gods simulteanously...
      If it was wiser it would actually stop taking part in black crusades and the like, but by its very nature Slaanesh craves for quick gains instead of long term victories, it isn't Tzeentch. In that way it is actually way closer to Khorne.

    1/4: you are so fast but over-motivated that you put your entire army into very vulnerable positions in turn 1 and get field whiped in turn 2.
    2/4: you are too scared to loose your elite units so you stay too far back, giving the opponent time to prepare or get in melee and then you get field whiped in turn 3-4
    3/4: you misplaced your highly specialised units/ got outmanouvered /dont know the enemys models so now you are 0% effective and you get field whiped.
    4/4 you place everything just right, your units are at the exact spot they are supposed to be and everything falls together like an evil kenivil mastermind plan and you have 110% control of the board. you feel like you own the Warhammer. the feeling of empowerment you get from this is like a drug and Slanesh is laughing in extasy every time an eldar player has this experience.
    But now your opponent looses interest in playing you so in the end you have earned the victory for the price of probably never playing the guy again. hooray

For a good while I struggled to get back to assembling and painting my Death Guard and CSMs after a terrible bout of depression, but eventually I decided to go get something totally different. And that ended up being a SC: Craftworlds box, Wave Serpent, and a Guardians kit. They were so different from what I was used to painting and I slammed out a good chunk of what I bought and had it ready quick for an upcoming 500pt patrol tournament. Went for Ulthwe initially because Dawn of War 2, but lately I've been thinking about repainting them into the custom paint scheme I use for a lot of my stuff so I can comfortably run them as any Craftworld.

    Craftworld Aeldari for life! As many a childs who got into 40k from Dawn of War. I was caught between Space Marines and Eldar for my favorite race. As a goody-two-shoes I wanted to go for the "Good Guys" and the Craftworlds were the closest thing. When Dark Crusade came I fell in love with the earnest optimism of the Tau. But I went back to our Elf lads and lasses(I think cause I simped and donated my Tau army to a girl) and never looked back since.
    I will admit my playstyle would still more defensive, but I will stand by the Know-It-Alls! I actually was so bad when I was younger that the first time I won a game. I got a discount from the Store Manager xP
    But if I get a Space Lizardmen army I probably will convert. Best wishes!

    • @Draxynnic
      @Draxynnic ปีที่แล้ว

      Ironically, possibly the closest thing to Space Lizardmen is Exodite Eldar. Would be interesting to see what they'd do if they did port the Lizardmen concept into 40K to avoid just making them Exodites where the guys riding the dinosaurs are also...archosaurs. Not dinosaurs. Fantasy specified that Saurus Warriors were actually made from the crocodilian side of the family. But still pretty close to dinosaurs.
      (Interesting evolutionary quirk: The psuedosuchian (crocodiles and extinct relatives) branch in the Triassic were actually starting to diversify in a similar manner to how dinosaurs would, until conditions changed in favour of dinosaurs instead. So if you want a Lizardmen army to be more scientifically accurate, you could reason that in the Warhammer world it was pseudosuchians that became the large predators and herbivores in Lustria, and dinosaurs were confined mainly to smaller species that would eventually become birds.)

I started playing them because I started out with guard and just bought a start collecting but then after a while of painting them and getting more into the lore. I really wanted a more unique army and I think eldar really fit that. I know they are elves and elves are common in fantasy but they look way more unique than most other factions. • @Draxynnic
      @Draxynnic ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think that's a combination of the Protoss not actually having been hit as hard comparatively as the Eldar, and the conditions being better for them to rebuild. Protoss ended Starcraft 2 in a loose alliance with the other major powers in the region, mostly united apart from the Taldarim, retaining pretty much all of their technology, and there's no reason to think they can't rebuild their population. The Eldar are splintered into factions, some of which are actively hostile to one another, they've lost a lot of knowledge, and the Thirst seems to have messed up their reproduction (likely in the form of a sharply reduced availability of new souls for baby Eldar) such that it's questionable whether their population would be stable even in peacetime. (The Dark Eldar have their cloning process, but there's also a possibly justified belief that naturally-born Dark Eldar are better, and similar to the Idoneth in AoS it wouldn't surprise me if the cloning primarily works because they're harvesting soul energy from other races.)

    One of the things I tend to raise an eyebrow at regarding the "Tau are the closest things to good guys in the setting" line that is often stated is... most of what characterises the Craftworld Eldar as a threat to humans is, surprisingly enough, coming from the viewpoint of the Imperium. It's generally portrayed as "Eldar are jerks because they will sacrifice billions of humans to save a few Eldar" - and putting aside the fact that billions of humans probably represent a smaller portion of the overall human population than a few thousand Eldar, the fact remains that Imperial doctrine considers the craftworlders to be filthy xenos which might be lower on the priority order than others and therefore occasionally suitable for a temporary alliance when something worse is knocking, are nevertheless in line to be wiped out once the Imperium no longer has bigger fish to fry. When the Eldar do something like, say, redirecting an Orc Waaaagh to hit an Imperial hive world instead of going after a craftworld, they're not just sacrificing human lives to save Eldar lives now, they're also preventing the Imperium from growing strong enough to decide it can afford to start wiping out craftworlds. At the bottom line, the Craftworlders fight for their own survival, and to protect certain objects that they consider to be part of their legacy (such as the Maiden Worlds), but unlike the Imperium, they're not going to attack you unless you represent a real danger to them or their interests now or in the future.
    That "in the future" part is the element that makes them a race that could still be the villains in a more idealistic setting: wiping out a species because their descendants are prophesised to be a problem for the Eldar is an action that in most settings would raise questions like "are you genociding them just for something that their descendants MIGHT do" and "couldn't you, like, just steer their development in a way that means they don't do that?". In 40K, though, the Eldar kind of have a point - they don't necessarily see the future in enough detail to know for sure how to prevent a bad outcome beyond "make the species that did it no longer exist before they grow strong enough", and the survival of the galaxy as a whole is on such a knife edge, and the Eldar are so important to that, that they can't really afford to take any risks. If they fail, the whole galaxy gets consumed by Chaos, or the Tyranids, or... okay, the Necrons are one of the few races that had the grimdark toned down rather than up, but the impression I get is that Necron rule still isn't great for anyone else.
    In short, the Craftworld Eldar arrange things so that bad things happen to humans because it was the Imperium that decided that they would be enemies (or at least frenemies that not-so-secretly want to wipe each other out). But they're not interested in xenocide as an ideology (they do it, but as a means to an end, not an end in itself) or aggressive expansion (the worlds their ancestors terraformed are theirs and theirs alone, but that's probably fair enough, they wouldn't be habitable otherwise, and they usually give interlopers a warning to evacuate). If you're some peaceful alien race that just wants to mind its own business, maybe colonise the local region, the Craftworld Eldar are probably the best playable race to come into contact with.

      I don't like the eldar because they always have to be so cryptic all the damn then have the gall to call you a filthy mon'keigh or whatever when you can't comprehend their cryptic sh*t and just ask them to explain themselves every once in a while

      @Draxynnic ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@floricel_112 "Never ask the Eldar a question for they will give you three answers, each of which is true and horrifying to know".
      Thing is, from what's said about their language and psychology, this makes sense. The Eldar language and thought process tends to contain layers upon layers of context and multiple meanings and additional information such that if you did comprehend everything they said, they've told you in a minute what would take a human ten minutes to say. What a human would consider "explaining themselves" is essentially baby talk to them. Which could be a skill worth learning, but due to Imperial xenophobia, being a diplomat to humans tends to be a high-risk job. In practice, most of the communication is often done by Farseers, which have the advantage of sometimes being able to see when it is safe to do so, but which is often probably the equivalent to a theoretical physicist with little experience communicating to anyone who doesn't have at least a science degree talking to a ten-year-old.
      Of course, this is a bit of an "all there in the manual" thing because, unless there's something we really don't know about, Games Workshop and Black Library writers are human, actually writing that is easier said than done and tends to come across as being cryptic for the sake of being cryptic.

Though the Imperial Guard in my mind is closer lore-wise because the IG hides all their massive weaponry behind disposable nobodies like the Skaven, and if a few million people die to win the battle then that’s no problem. My biggest problem with eldar is that as a faction you can either be smug or you can murder-orgy the god of rape into existence, ripping an enormous hole in space-time in the process. You cannot be both. The eldar are both and it makes them completely unlikable. Heck, even in-universe they are so smug that it hinders the eldar from achieving their own goals.
    Take the ending of DoW1 as an example. What Macha should say is "if you smash the Maledictum you'll release the daemon inside", instead she says some vagueness about ruin and not knowing what they're doing, followed by gunfire. As a result shit goes sideways.

    • @Draxynnic
      @Draxynnic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think a large part of this is that the Eldar have a justified distrust of the Imperium. If they speak straight, as likely as not it'll turn out that one of the Imperials there actually wants the outcome that they're trying to prevent, or the Imperials will decide that the Eldar are just trying to manipulate them and gunfire ensues. We have (or at least, I have - maybe there's a Tau-Asuryani interaction in the lore somewhere I haven't seen) very little material on how the Craftworld Eldar behave with races that wouldn't cheerfully render them extinct if given the opportunity. (Remember that until Guilliman, Imperial policy regarding all Eldar was "the time for their extermination will come", and even now I think it's still formally the policy, Guilliman has just been bending it.)

    • @Talyrion
      @Talyrion ปีที่แล้ว

      It's worth pointing out that the aeldari are the ones who weren't into the whole 'murder-orgy' thing and left when it became clear that telling the others to tone it down wasn't doing much good. Hence the smugness - sure, their empire collapsed in the worst fashin, but the craftworld eldars still need a few thousand years of saying 'I told you so' to anyone that would listen before they get it out of their system. Hence the smugness.
      As for the drukhari, they chose the 'let's double down on everything and refuse to be repetant about anything ever' route, so the smugness is probably the only thing allowing them to live in their own little world where they did nothing wrong.

      It's not really all that common for a setting to have some race that aren't the main protagonists, but probably would have been in a prequel set sufficiently far back in the past, and which now exist as an older race and secondary protagonist race that provides guidance to the current protagonists (largely through having much greater knowledge of the history of the setting due to having been around for more of it)... basically filling the same role as elves normally do in a traditional fantasy setting. Games Workshop was just more direct about it by making them ACTUAL space elves rather than 'totally original alien race that fulfils the same narrative role'.

      @@eu29lex16 They're very overtly Warhammer Fantasy elves IN SPACE. Warhammer Fantasy elves are a different species, have the same gods that the 40K Eldar had before the Fall, broadly similar aesthetics and approaches to war (as much as you can have going from a fantasy setting to a science fiction one), and in 8th edition they even backported the Thirst into Fantasy despite the Fall not having happened in Fantasy. The Craftworlds, Dark Eldar, and Exodites even map pretty well to High, Dark, and Wood Elves respectively. So unless you're going to claim that Warhammer Fantasy elves and dwarfs aren't elves and dwarfs because they aren't direct copies of Tolkein's elves and dwarves, Eldar are pretty clearly space elves. Eldar are Warhammer elves IN SPACE. Simple as that. They had the same gods, same general attitude towards warfare albeit at a different technology level, same physical features, and the same psychological strengths and weaknesses.
