- YEAR ONE | CHAPTER I
Bruce Wayne, after years abroad training and harnessing his skills, returns home to Gotham City, to combat the crime that infests and corrupts his city, as the vigilante, Batman.
He finds himself fighting an uphill battle against Gotham's rival crime families, until he meets an unlikely ally in Gotham's corrupt police force.
Can he save the city from the elemental crime that consumes it, or is Gotham doomed to its fate?

I love your Loeb take! I once wrote Loeb as a formerly idealistic cop who actually resented Falcone and protected Jim, and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to have the idea. :)
Good use of Deadshot. He works well for these early-career Batman stories. I also love the screentime to given to Gordon, as well as Bruce’s angst over the Red Hood fiasco.
Aw cool! Yes I love the idea that everyone is just a product of the toxic environment of the city itself. Loeb folded into that role because that’s all he knew. I like having a little grey in the characters that are often black and white in most media.
And yes!! I love Gordon, and this is as much an origin story for him as it is for Batman. The whole film is centred around both characters failing to reach their goals in their own ways, until that pivotal moment when they meet, and they realise that neither can do what needs to be done without the other. A true partnership.

I realize this is my fourth comment but I a, rewatching this after 5 months and I actually really love two things in particular: Falcone and Red Hood. Falcone was like the ultimate crime lord, written exactly how you would expect someone like him to be. And the scene at the end when he threatens Jim gave me chills because the music sounded a lot like The Godfather theme. And Red Hood was the perfect teaser for a future Joker, I love his little twinkly ominous music. Can’t wait to see your take on Mr. J. Also Deadshot was a nice inclusion.

Keep at it! Literally everything I shot for this film was all done on my phone. The picture quality isn’t the best but I wanted to focus more on developing my animation technique and getting the story right. All the good quality tech can come later when I can afford it 😂 Excited to see what you make!

I'm only 10 minutes in and this is already SO amazing! You're setting everything up so well. I LOVE that Red Hood is basically the thing that kicks off this entire terf war. I just saw the part where Barbara asks Jim "did he so you?" and we just flash back to him, staring Batman DEAD in the eye, with his gun shaking... Haha, that was amazing. Can't wait to watch the rest, a serious Batman Lego series starting from Day 1is something the world needs!!

Just finished watching, and WOW, great story. I really love your sympathetic take on Lobe, that's a breath of fresh air. The scene between him and Jim is SO tense, and damn does it pay off. Really caught me off guard! It was so badass seeing Batman take Falcone down, and when Falcone gets hostile at the end, he's genuinely scary. I can totally see how this guy's kept a stranglehold on Gotham. I love the scene at the end with Alfred and Bruce, sharing a drink, that's so nice haha. I love how you write Alfred, he's got the best one liners. I cannot WAIT to see you tackle Joker if you decide to continue, you've set this up sooo perfectly!
And as for the animation itself, it's AMAZING, you gets such human, believable, expressive motions out of these figures, it takes real creativity and makes this so immersive. Pretty much every second of this is great to look at, I'm sure it took forever to animate this, but it REALLY paid off, because this look phenomenal!

Yes Alfred is one of my favourite characters and some of the more nuance dialogue between him and Bruce were my favourite scenes to write.
I think when people write Batman, they make him a little too inhuman, a little too emotionless. With my Bruce, yes he comes across very emotionless in his Bat persona, but he is still human. We only see the true Bruce when he’s with Alfred, because Alfred is the only person left from his life before his tragedy. I wanted to portray that their scenes together. Bruce gets angry, sad, frustrated, scared, and he only feels comfortable showing those emotions when he’s with Alfred.

I am indeed. Wrapping up filming today, and going to spend May composing music and voiceacting/sound-editing etc. So expect Chapter II in June at the earliest. I'll be dropping a trailer beforehand.

I love this film, I'm amazed at how well the script is written and the characters are portrayed. Hard to believe this almost a year old, Year One LOL! I'm interested in seeing how chapter two goes. Especially with the whole Wayne Family and Falcone connection. Wondering if it'll be something similar to the Tell Tale series with Thomas Wayne being corrupt. I'd like to see how Bruce/Batman tackles with that.
Also some characters I'd like to see in future chapters would be Harvey Dent (pre-Two Face), Selina Kyle (Catwoman) and of course The Joker himself! And maybe possible Dick Grayson before he became Robin.

Damn this is some good stuff. I like how the bruce and carmine falcone talk was like the one in the telltale series.
The Telltale games had such a big influence on my story. I love the implied relationship between the Falcone and Wayne families in those games. It’s a history we’ll explore a lot more in the next chapter

Wow!!! I absolutely loved it!!! I swear every time Alfred is on screen the animation is perfect!!! There is still space to grow, but overall, the animation is great. (7/10) The story is so interesting and thorough!!! I figured you took inspiration from Batman: The Telltale game. I can't wait to see what comes next!!!

I’m not sure if it’s an ‘exact science’ per say, but when lighting backgrounds I maybe used one sharp light to represent the moon for example, as well as using a black sheet as the background to maintain as much darkness as possible.
Then in the Loeb’s office scene between Batman and Gordon, I placed the light very close to the surface so the light wouldn’t dominate the room, and give the impression that the light source was coming from a desk lamp or something like that.
It really depends on the setting.

Actually, I have a question. What animation app do you use? Stop Motion Studio? That’s what looks like. I also use that app!
The very one! I don’t really have the ideal software atm for making stop motion films that I’d love to have when I can afford it. But Stop Motion Studio is excellent for what it’s made for, so it keeps me going for now. Long as I focus on story and character at present, I can worry about improving my animating skills and equipment as I develop. Thanks for the comment!!
this is pretty good, did you do all the voices yourself? Well most, you obviously didn't do Barbara's. So watching more of this it's clear that you definitely got multiple people, but a lot of the characters seem to be voiced by the same guy.
Thank you! Yes all the male voices are voiced by me. My first real project so it was hard to get much of a voice cast together without a platform. Hoping to change that for future projects
@@pbeochan4583 well you did quite a good job on the voices. I'd be willing to provide a voice for the future, I'm trying to get more into voice acting, still quite the amateur but I'm something. This was surprisingly well written for a fan made thing, the writing was top tier, everything else seemed amateur, which isn't a bad thing, as it's the very beginning, but the writing, didn't feel amateur at all, or the animation.

Honestly, the TH-cam algorithm baffles me, I’m honestly not sure how it works.
I thankfully have a very supportive family and circle of friends, so when I initially uploaded the video, they shared it around which got it a good fee hundred views in its first few weeks.
But then around April/May time there began a huge spike in views, particularly from the US, and it just grew exponentially from there.
I have no idea how it happened because I didn’t particularly do anything manually.
Wish I had some tips and tricks to share but it honestly is just so random.
But just keep at it man, that breakthrough will come!

A couple questions.. Did you get people to do the voices? How did you do the mouth animation?
I did the male voices myself, but then got my two friends to voice Barbara and Vicki Vale. For the mouth animation, whilst using Stop Motion studio and drew a black mark over the mouths matching the dialogue. Laborious but it certainly helps to show which character is speaking, especially since a lot of the characters sound very same-ish, since it's my own voice.

Really depends. I hope to have it out around the same time as the last one, but the production of Chapter II is already so much bigger this time. On top of that I work full time too. I wish I could release them consistently but I can’t say for sure sadly.
