    Beautiful afternoon surfcasting. You probably know those sizable Leopards are good on the table when steaked like a salmon. Also, I'd like to know what is your take is on switching out the jerk baits (LC or whatevers) 3 trebles to 2 single hooks. Please reply.

    Lots of hook up and catches. ou prefer fluorocarbon line over mon or braid? What lb. test is your go to for surf halibut, striper or perch?

    • @BenjieKimFishing
      @BenjieKimFishing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you Ron, always great to see your comment and I hope you are well.
      I always use a braid backing and I'm always in a state of transition with that lol. I've gone from 30 to 20 and currently using 15. Just trying to maximize sensitivity and casting distance. I'll use a fluoro leader anywhere from 12 to 20 pounds when throwing the Lucky Craft, mainly for abrasion resistance and pulling out snags in heavy structure.
      For halibut and striper I go with 15 pounds. Def on the lighter side but I am more of a finesse fisherman. For perch, I'm good with anywhere between 6 to 12 pounds depending on where I'm fishing and the rig I'm using.
      Tight lines!

    • @ronmodafferi8202
      @ronmodafferi8202 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the info. How long is your leader? Knots, wind knots, or tangles in braid for me are a terrible waste of fishing time. Plus braid seems to fray some; needs changing frequently? @@BenjieKimFishing

    • @BenjieKimFishing
      @BenjieKimFishing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      hahaha I mean no disrespect to rays and sharks, I think the main thing for me is that they're not my target species. So even tho they are brutes and challenging to land, when I see it's not a big flat one or sea bass my first instinct is disappointment.

      Every single beach in OC holds fish and can be very good fishing. Huntington City as well as State beaches are good options. As is Bolsa Chica.

    • @BenjieKimFishing

      @@BenjieKimFishing Can 20lbs of braid enough for Hallibut? Thank you for answering!

    • @BenjieKimFishing
      @BenjieKimFishing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@quantruong2632 the short answer - more than enough.
      Longer answer :
      Many different factors to consider however - how soft is your rod? What kind of rod/reel are you using? Does 20 lb braid fit that setup? How are you setting your drag? Are the rocks and heavy hard structure present (braid is like noodle on rocks)?
      I’ve never been broken off on 20 lb braid fighting a halibut. In this video I landed a close to 40” leopard shark on 20 lb braid. I’ve landed big bat rays on 20 lb braid. I landed a 30” striped bass on 20 lb braid.
      So yes, in my opinion 20 lb braid is plenty. But it all depends on what you’re fishing and your fishing style.
      And also, I recently changed my braid to 15 lb 😬
