    That first set was the one I started with. They did break a little easy for a new picker.

      Thanks for mentioning your experience with the set. It's important to know the trade-offs between price and quality.

    Very nice video My Friend, i always say the best beginner set it the dangerfield praxis kit

      @locksolver388  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. I agree, the Praxis is one of the best sets for the price and I've recommended it many times. It does required a bit more of an investment, so it just depends on how much money someone wants to spend when they're starting out.

    IMO the Southord MPXS-08 is the hands down the best pick set for beginners.

      @@locksolver388 Why does a transparent lock give different feedbacks from a practice lock?

    • @locksolver388
      @locksolver388  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Emily-pd2hi , because they're made of plastic and the clearances are much greater. A lock made of metal with tighter tolerances is more difficult to pick and feels a lot different. The more precisely aligned the pins are the more difficult it is to find the binding pin (next one to be set). Transparent locks are good to visually see how a lock works, just not the best for practicing picking.

      @@locksolver388 Thank you much for answering my question. Would you recommend a cutaway lock for practicing in stead?

    • @locksolver388
      @locksolver388  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Emily-pd2hi Cut-away locks can help you get started but they can become a crutch pretty quickly (unless you tape over the window). The nice thing about the practice locks whether they're cut-way or not is that you can pin them with fewer pins to learn progressively. Some people like the practice locks, I preferred just buying real locks to learn. It's not hard to get started with something like a Master 140, 150 etc.

    I got a similar cheap set on amazon, and had trouble using it. Turned out it came with garbage tension wrenches! I just had a plastic southord jacknife set up till then and used the tension wrench from that and was able to pick the same lock right away.

    • @locksolver388
      @locksolver388  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most sets are pretty deficient in tension tools. The Sparrows 6 pc sets are pretty good. At least you get three different widths. The best option is to learn to make them using wiper blade inserts, music wire etc.. That way you have the right tools for every lock.

    The cheap Chinese set can be found for as low as $6-$8 on wish.com however your information was at least 90% accurate
    On banggood the cheap Chinese set was reduced by 47 % making it $8 this information has been verified this evening.
    Can appreciate the sparrows heavy bars and flat knurled and you are correct on the shipping, I would have also mentioned the comb bar set that combines a tubeuler tensioner built into a comb pick with a top of the key way tensioners all in one, a set of 3 that was like $14.00
    Your information is accurate

    As someone who has been picking since 2005(And has wasted a LOT of money on crap I didn’t need lol), I feel that the MPXS-08 from Southord is hands down the best pick set for beginners out there. It doesn’t contain too many tools, yet doesn’t have too little either.

      .25" marine grade shrink tube. Fits over handles, shrinks to the right size and has an adhesive already on it to hold in place.
