    This video manual is so valuable. In the first 38 minutes I noted 20 things (on 2 sheets of paper) that I'd either not known before or learned more about something already known. It confirmed my decision to sell 2 other sequencers to buy 2 Black Sequencers. Thanks for your detailed explanation!

    This video is absolutely amazing. I haven't got this sequencer, it is on my wishlist, I don't know if I will be able to buy it in any foreseeable future but still find it interesting to watch what and how you can work on this sequencer. Why I find this video amazing though is all the work you put into making such a thorough comprehensible manual, even keeping people with bad eyesight in mind, and I think you are a hero for that. Wish you all the best.

    Great explanation, but one thing that I didn't hear (or can't find online) is if it is possible to create a 3 step sequence (or 5 step, etc) that won't reset after the master step length. A 3 step sequence does not fit into a 64 step master and will result in the first note playing twice at the 64th and 65th (first) step. Is tthere a feature we're it won't reset?

    I‘m trying to control my Korg NTS-1 with the Black Sequencer for half an hour now. I have set the NTS-1 to Midi Track 8 and set the BS to „Setup - Midi - Midi CV out“ Track 1 Channel 8.
    I have a TRS-a to TRS-B Adapter and a standard stereo headphone cable and I can‘t get the NTS-1 to create any sounds. What am I missing? Is the BS „Midi CV out“ setting the real midi out channels? Because it says CV out?

    Hi,
    I'm having trouble finding good info on what types of information the MIDI out of the Black sequencer is capable of sending, and how customizable it is.
    Does it send CV/Gate/Mod for each track to a different MIDI channel? If so, can you specify what MIDI channel each track's data gets sent to?
    Also, can you specify which MIDI CC vale the Mod data is mapped to?
    Finally, can you send all 4 tracks to the same MIDI channel to sequence a polyphonic synth?
    I'm hoping to integrate this into a non-modular setup.

  • @SebastienLeger
    @SebastienLeger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    One big major issue of this (incredible) sequencer, is that the quantizer works ONLY pre sequence, not post. Which means that once you have set up your scale, you can not change it anymore for another one, to see what different result you could get on the fly to your sequence with another scale. It's pretty dramatic if you ask me. That's why i'm not using any quantizing inside and using external quantizers to do whatever I want, whenever I want. Appart from this big downfall, best sequencer out there.

    • @QuincasMoreira
      @QuincasMoreira 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My work around is to change the scale, then turn the encoders one click back and forth in the cv page ;)

    • @SebastienLeger
      @SebastienLeger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@QuincasMoreira we should be able to freely change scales at anytime while the sequence is running without having to use some dodgy tricks :)
      now you have to stop the sequence, find another scale (potentially loose that cool sequence too) and press play again. Worst workflow ever, but like i said, external quantizers (Scales, Sinfonion) do magic

    Have you tried the Black Sequencer to send ADSR envelopes, when entering notes from a MIDI keyboard? I'm using black sequencer to generate my envelopes, but when I play it with a MIDI keyboard, the 'Attack' stage gets ignored. The notes always have a 'Sharp attack' even when I enter a slow attack. I find it weird, since the rest of the envelope works as intended, and when I hit 'play' the sequence and the envelope starts working again, it's just when the sequence is stopped. Does this happen with yours too?

    • @QuincasMoreira

    Is there a special/musical reason why you need to double the setting for the number of steps after which a new pattern is played when you let the sequence play at half clock speed? I understand the maths behind it, but if I program a 32 step sequence I surely want to hear all my 32 steps, even if I change speed during performance. Hi! Connect the CV1 from Black Sequencer to v/oct input of your oscillator (Black 2 or Wavetable). Take the output of your oscillator to the audio input of a VCA. Take the GATE1 output of Black Sequencer to the Gate/Trig input of an Envelope Generator. Send the OUT of the Envelope Generator to the CV input of the VCA. And the Output of the VCA is your sound, plug it into a mixer or audio interface.
      Have fun!

      And for the Drum Sequencer:
      With a STEREO minijack cable (not the usual mono ones) connect the MIDI out from the Black Sequencer to the MIDI In on the Drum Sequencer. Press shift + PLAY (triangle) on the Drum Sequencer and change the SYN (sync) parameter to MID (MIDI).
      Or you can use two regular mono cables and plug the Black Sequencer Clock and Reset outputs to the Drum Sequencer Clock In and RST inputs. In this case you want to set the SYN to CLK on the Drum Sequencer Settings page (shift+Play)

    The gate cannot used as drum trigger. Only with the 4 Mod Outs.

    hey there, can you set it up to send velocity by midi with the modulation? (not the fixed velocity output). I saw in the manual you can setup up just midi CC#s

      @@plutostube no, there's no midi output of any kind except for clock at the moment. You can send midi CC to the Black Sequencer, not from it

      @@plutostube Those settings are for input, not output! remember, this is a cv sequencer, not a MIDI sequencer. The MIDI features are auxiliary. I don't know when or if this will change
