Thanks for sharing this David. I was at this concert too and recall that after hearing this piece I felt that she had expressed all of the despair and isolation that was possible for a human to sing. I recall thinking worriedly that if she sang the rest of the program that I would have no feelings left. Fortunately, her following selections revived me to make an unforgetable evening of song. I am thrilled to hear this again, 50 years later? Amazing. We were at the U of A at the same time.
Nancy from Grace United? .... and U of A. So great to hear from you. Yes, concerts like this never cease to inspire, and we've had a few such experiences over 50 years. So fortunate. Be well.
Yes, but now from Arizona. It is great to hear from you too. Do you have any more tapes from that concert? I have her voice ringing in my memory again. Thank you. Take care.
Nancy, .... what a small world .... my life took me to Calgary for 20 years at Calgary Opera ... then 6 years in Phoenix as General Director of Arizona Opera Phoenix/Tucson ..... then here to Ancaster, Ontario for 10 seasons as GD at Opera Ontario/Hamilton .... and now retirement (save a few mentorship projects). Actually I have the complete Recital .... but I've been bad about finding the time for "converting" archive stuff from reel-to-reel and cassette to digital. Maybe now I'll get to more of it. Nice reconnecting ... Wishing you all the best for the coming year. D.
It is always so thrilling to hear her sing. Such depth of interpretation and attention to emotional connection. The audience is always so excited. I'm sure she must have gotten standing ovations everywhere she sang.

A lovely voice, but if you compare this with Bartoli or Dam Jensen, singularly lacking in emotional depth. Caballe is doing no more than sing. She is not feeling the words.
Hi Rosemary and Catherine, if you look up the meaning of 'melodrama", you'll find it describes Bartoli. If however you wish to feel deep emotions, Caballé leads you there.

In 1974 Caballé was a Goddess. I’m so used to hear her recordings that sometimes I forget how miraculous was her voice.
With due respect LA MONTSERRAT IS A GODDESS FOR ETERNITY!
Her voice and her singing, no less!
Господи, как легко она поет и как красиво. Идеально.
Как будто пропорхала по нотам! Потрясающе!
She was a wonderful woman with a wonderful voice and soul !!
Thank you David Speers. This is miraculous!

Thanks for sharing the constant miracle of that voice
her coloraturas be like a feather yet on point!
She adds lots of Spanish trills that certainly brings an interesting and very personal touch to the piece!
Lovely ornaments in the da capo reprise, without obscuring the original notes.
Donde quiera que esté MAESTRA , DIOS LA BENDIGA ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
첫 소절부터 눈물나게 하는 최고의 프리마돈나~!
비가 부슬부슬 내리는 날 넘 좋네요~
¡Sublime interpretación!
Simply incredible!
Those who disliked this have no clue about opera singing.
Muhteşem bir yorum.
Wunderschön
Glorious!!!
Nancy Browne ..... Grace United ? ...... and U of A .

Sublime La Superba.

Please, for the love of god, I need clearer recordings of her gorgeous singing. It's a shame this is as good as it can get

I agree totally. I love her voice but Haendel isn’t for her. It’s not bel canto.
