If you’re local, they go “well why didn’t you know this extremely obscure traffic law?” If you aren’t from around there, then they go even harsher on you, trying to intimidate you. Police can go off crazy power trips on their own, so I bet it’s a lot harder to get off with just a warning if you’re not white. Crazy police story: my dad was beaten by a police officer on the 4th of July one year. He was in a public park when some other people shot off a bunch of fireworks and then scrammed. He was the only one left in the park when the police arrived, so they assumed he shot these fireworks. They slammed him against his car hood, beat him, and broke his car windows. What’s more, they got away with it. Never trust the police, even if you’re totally innocent.
In this particular situation, they police were in the right. The US, Canada, and Australia didn't sign the 1968 Vienna Convention, therefore riding/driving there is illegal.

Astounding. Love this channel but the political ignorance is unbelievable. You would think you would do a little research on the country before landing.
For us Americans it is hard to understand that laws abroad are NOT flexible, there is no such thing as discretionary power in most countries: for instance, a cop will be fired for tearing to pieces a speed ticket.
That's very untrue. Admittedly I haven't visited every country, but I have yet to visit one where the police didn't have any discretionary power. Infact its harder for the police in the West to use any discretion since most interactions are now recorded on body cams. A few years ago, I had a friendly cop in rural China take a break from his evening meal to rip up my parking ticket and release my impounded motorcycle free of charge. That definitely wouldn't have happened here in the UK, especially to a Chinese tourist unable to speak English.

Many travellers do not realise there are THREE IDP's (International Driving Permits). They are no's 1926, 1949 and 1968. Dependent on which country you are visiting will determine which IDP you need. For instance, Vietnam is no.1968. For Cambodia it is no.1949 and Thailand no.1968. For instance, if you were visiting Thailand and then travelling to Cambodia you would require TWO IDP's. One for Thailand (1968) and one for Cambodia (1949). I hope this clears up any confusion.
@@shadowz5226But that doesn't mean everyone knows it's a joke, and most of all, if you decide to go to or make a video about a certain country, you need to first learn about that country's culture before making a joke and thinking that it's so harmless
I must agree with the last comment. Conner seems to be looking for confrontation in his views and is prone to exaggeration. As with Myanmar he railed against the “military dictatorship” when the police/military boarded the bus for ID inspection. He used the term “terrified”, an indulgence in hyperbole. I never liked it either but the men were always respectful and often friendly. It was their job. If one doesn’t like military dictatorships as he knew existed in Myanmar he shouldn’t have gone. It’s all bravado in my opinion. Many like his act. Initially, I liked his off the cuff humor but it has waned upon me. I think he could do excellent videos if he threw off his immaturity. Shame on me for being so caustic. I do wish him well.
I enjoy his vids a lot but just fojnd hin today. And hearing his very bitterly angry rant after being at a quite polite police stop for a mere ~20 mins in which he got let off (even w/o the proper license it seems Vietnam only accepts a different one) with no bribes needed, tells me he needs to get his head out of the clouds and realize he's in rougher areas of the world, and he needs to grow up, and should maybe do his honework on aspects of the countries he's entering. Yes his mindset makes for great adventures no doubt, but it can get one into equally bad situations. I mean he once went way out of his way to a port/border that had been closed for two years.. Again I enjoy his vids because he does discover lots of cool off the map locations and meets all sorts of different characters, so don't get me wrong, it's just there's sooo many problems and mishaps he could avoid with just a little research and preparation. Best of luck on the travels my dude
