3. China wants to be a hegemonic power in Central Asia i.e. Russia's backyard.
4. China is an expansionist
5. Sino-Soviet Rift 1961 and Sino-Soviet Border Conflict 1969
What happened in 1961/69...
Sino-Soviet Rift-1961 (Khrushchev vs Mao), and in 1969 to divert the attention of Chinese population from the failure of Mao's Policies, China declared a war on Russia over a disputed territory known as Zhenbao Island in China/Damansky Island in Russia...
But contrary to that, Russia has chosen China over India in the past...
How Russia Betrayed India in 1962...
While the Cuban Missile Crisis was going on USA and USSR were busy and the whole world's attention was towards Cuba.
And China saw this as an opportunity (there were many other reasons as well) and China attacked India.
At the time of the war India asked for assistance from USSR and they denied the assistance and they suspended the order for MIG 21 as well.
India was disappointed so India approached USA for help. USA denied the sale of fighter jets however they assured some help (Air assistance). USA agreed to send it's naval fleet (USS Enterprise) towards Bay of Bengal.
Hence, by analysing the historic events we can conclude that, Russia has chosen China over India, as it benefited their Geopolitical Interests...
In the coming years, there's a possibility that Russia will do this again.
So despite being very close to Russia, we must maintain a strategic autonomy and maintain good relations with Russia and USA both.
In the end "In Geopolitics there are no permanent friends or enemies, only permanent interests"
