@@weewee5846Idk, I have a very sharp jawline and he's correct in the part that the first looks like mewing 24/7 so the 2nd one is "a bit more realistic". Tongue posture plays a very big role in the shape of your jawline
Both are lowkey kinda wrong if you look at them the 1st one is correct but the overall face competition on the face is what makes it look weird the 2nd one is mostly used for a different perspective as the person’s jawline is more angled as if they are looking upward. Overall this art is good but he just needs to fix his measuring of the eyes lips and nose on a side view.
2nd is just from a slightly upward looking angle and the figure therefore showing more of the underside and the connective tissue, while also not applying the same shift in perspective to the rest of the head which makes it look odd. First one is a straight up side profile, but he does have point that there usually some connective fissure there still and an indication of the Adam's apple. Although the drawing works out just fine without bc the style isn't heavily relying on conveying minor anatomic features.
@@pinkelngood way to sum it up, second one is a bit more realistic, but is usually excluded in many art styles, instead just using a small curvature on the forward neck line where it meets the jaw.
Both are kind of off-proportion. The lips are too high up and the chin's too long and has an underbite. The first probably looks better cause it leans into stylisation, whereas the second looks a bit uncanny.
With how he drew that head thought it seemed more of an eye level so you could definitely see a connection of a neck and a jaw with that kind of head shape and body composition unless you’re tryna give character (talking about in a character designing way).
The concept is correct, but it's way more subtle than what he did. Usually, you'd only see a little bit of the neck connecting with the chin and only at the start of the neck. I guess you could think of it more like a Y shape with the chin being the bottom of the Y. I really wish I could use a visual aid. Please look up some side view portraits if you want to better understand what I'm trying to say. Pay attention to how the front of the neck meets the jaw.
Appreciate all the advice you give, but I will say this: I definitely like both drawings. I think sometimes the"bad" drawing is just a different interpretation/style. But I do think it's important for the artist to know why they should or shouldn't use each style; making a conscious decision on why you draw the things you draw is important.......if this makes sense (kinda hard to explain) 😂.
Depends on perspective of face, style, and just preference. I like the 2nd one more, but I use the 1st one more often because that’s just how I draw heads and it works better for my style unless the head is tilted up or away a lot more
The jaw is blocking the view of the neck in the first one. That's why it APPEARS as if the jaw connects directly to the neck. It gives depth to the drawing instead of a 2D looking neck. So the first drawing would actually be more realistic.
@@kurosaki987 you can draw the chin according to the angle. But the difference is you connect the jawline to the ear. But when you draw in realism you connect the jaw line to the neck as a guide line. Then you erase the vertical line that connect them. I am not a pro either so maybe what I said can be wrong.
