The fiscar trimming scissors are by far my favorite scissors of all time. Great for trimming "plants" and chopping up dry "plant" material. Had the same set for 12 years and they are still insanely sharp
I have the fiskars. The safety latch broke, the screwdriver fell out of the holder easily and got lost, and the handle just makes it feel like big clunky scissors.

It's the best marketing. You get it and you struggle opening it. After you get your product, you try it on the same packaging, and you'll think "well hot damn, that was easy, this *IS* a good product".
They were doing this as far back as 2003/4 at least. The guy opposite me in the market used to sell all this fake as seen on TV rubbish. His package openers were indeed packaged in sealed plastic packs. I thought it wa ls hilarious
LPT: If you can manage to squeeze the sides of these packages so that you can grab the front and back face, then pulling them apart is usually pretty easy. I used to set up computer labs and we got pretty good at opening the new hardware just using our hands.
I am getting to this on 12/19...after I just ordered the Slit it...it was showcased for the first tmie on QVC yesterday....they were sold two at a time...mine should arrive shortly ! Thanks for your demos in all categories...very interesting.. I like the electric one albeit the size.... ~cheers~ !
I use a little slicer like you showed at 3:20, and the best feature is the tiny magnet that lets me keep it on the corner of my computer so I can find it every time I need to use it.
ive yet to buy the stuff hes highlighted, BUT, some of it has gone on /a list/ the thing about the infomercial space is that the products that exist there do so for a reason. theres always a quirk, or a trick, or some kind of angle they're attacking to break into an established market by hyperspecializing. most times its gimicky junk, but when its not, its often the best god damn thing that exists for solving one very specific problem. so certain things are always in the back of my head, waiting for the day i need to put in that next day delivery.
10 years ago after slicing open a finger on some sharp plastic, I bought the Open X & never looked back. I've since bought them as gifts & keep one in the car. Highly recommend that one but I never use it to open the side..just go for the blister or as close to any open area as you can.
Ok, so one of my pet peeves about this type of packaging is how sharp it is. Despite all of these devices working, I 100% will still slice my hand open on the god damn packaging. Idk... maybe I’m just clumsy ! 🤷♀️
I know!! It's horrible. You slice off an edge; try to go around the corner, when it snaps shut on you resulting in bloody fingers - yay! I hate those things!😠
With these packages, You're better off with pulling than pushing. I know you're always supposed to use sharp objects away from you, but the fact of the matter is, these packages are extemely sharp themselves. If you use a pushing tool and you slip, you will have a nasty cut. Pushing also gives a lot less control than pulling, making slipping in the first place more likely.
@@jacobmiller8631 yes, which is why the electric one (which doesn't seem to require any force) is the superior tool. And although technically you are right, when you're doing something precise, you tend to cut towards yourself instead of away from yourself. When you're cutting towards yourself, you're already using caution so the chances of of actually stabbing yourself are seriously slim. You're not going to tell me you peel potatoes with the knife away from yourself... You can't do precise cutting that way. And, as I stated in my comment; pushing severely increases the risk of cutting your hands on the packaging. So it's a cut either way in this scenario. -- Note that this is a low-effort thing to cut. It's not like you're using force to cut it so the chances of actually slipping towards yourself are rather slim. Then again, most of these tools are stupid and dangerous anyway. Better off with scissors.
@@theBabyDead with that, either way you could cut yourself. The tool has a safety anyway. But me personally would rather have a small package slip and hit me gently then a tool with sharp blades, even with the safety. And doing precise cuts away from you is easy, if you’ve grown up doing it like that. I do peel potatoes away from myself, with a peeler. The right tool makes anything easier
@@jacobmiller8631 interesting. I don't know anybody who peels potatoes away from them haha. But I get your point and it's fair. I guess it's a point of priority. I've had cuts from those plastic packages on my hands and I'm very dependant on my hands, so having gigantic cuts on them (because they do get gigantic) can really hurt me. For example, I lost mobility in a finger because of it while I'm a musician. I guess I'm saying I'd much rather have a 1cm deep jab in my stomach than a 0.2cm big cut all over my fingers/hands... hahaha. But you do make a good point.
I've had something just like the OpenX for at least 8 or 9 years now, and it's still quite sharp and effective. It's nice and small so it doesn't take up much room in an already crowded misc drawer. I mostly use it to break down boxes but it still works like a charm on those horrible plastic packages. The retractable blade does go all the way into mine so it seems to be safer than yours lol
Fiskars have never let me down. Own a lot of their bladed products for kitchen, general use and especially gardening, the shears keep an edge on them for what seems like forever
Legit, those scissors are great and can cut through so much! Combine that with 1) a Milwaukee utility knife + Dewalt carbide blade and 2) a Midori cutter (for parcel tape) and you can open any parcel and package and separate things for garbage/recycling. Only thing I haven't figured out yet is that best way to remove plastic wrap besides poking a pen into a part that's more loose.
As someone who prefers to cut only the heat-sealed part to leave as much of the clamshell as possible for drawer-clutter-collision protection, but always seems to draw blood from cutting straight-on, I'll giving the Fiskars a try
Haha, I think a couple of different lengths of tube would work better than those too ( oh everyone's ears!). I will say, it's one of the most adult ways of tormenting your siblings I can think of 😂.
I’m loving the slit it, especially for versatility with Envelopes and plastic packages. Kinda odd that it cost the same as the Zip It. I like them both.

Merry Christmas to you and yours . I have an openx and I find that the little starter blade works fine for the job . Just make one long slice and then pull the item out . Also , a pair of scissors works in every case . Just find a pair that are sturdy and sharp . At work I use something called a squeeze knife great for opening boxes and bags then just putting it back in your pocket .
Ok, as a parent of 2 I have bought a lot of toys etc with this style packaging. Never once have I thought, "hey I wish there was a dedicated tool for opening these". While I'm sure some of these do the job well; there are many things which I already own which will do just as good.
As many of these packages as I open I should have at least purchased a couple of these by now. Glad to see several choices in one video. ✂️ are getting nervous. LOL
I've been opening up this kind of packaging for years and you don't need any of this new crap that's comming out. Save your money. All you need are a good pair of scissors. A lot of the people who open up these kind of packages get too excited to get them open and that's how they hurt themself by getting cut on the sharp plastic.
I always enjoy your videos and look forward to them. I think I’ll stick to my scissors and utility knife and pocket the cash. Merry Christmas to you and your kids!
Yeah, sometimes you need the inner cardboard pretty intact. It may have important directions you want to put away for future use, coupons/rebates, contact addresses, or in rare cases even be part of the product (mini-gameboards, charts, and such).
shoutout to the companies that make their blister/clamshell packs with pull tabs or with any easy-open mechanism. Logitech does that and it's super cool.
My process for breaking into clamshell packages is cutting open the top, making a slit down the middle of the back of the product, and then if necessary open the sides from the back to remove the product. It’s more scissor friendly since you’re only addressing the clamshell portion for only one part of the package
Thanks. As an older woman with small hands, I thought your ease of use might somewhat reflect your superior hand strength. I'm glad you addressed that in the summary. So I might go with that motorized, battery operated device. I'ld really like to see a similar video made where the demonstrator actually has small, not very strong hands. Maybe you could make another video using, say, a 14 year old girl or an older lady. How safe these devices are might also vary with the user's hand strength. I feel like I still don't know which one to get. 🤔
Great review as always. I wonder if your standard retractable safety blade would work just as well and you wouldn't have to worry about damaging the tip of the blade since they're replaceable
I have the Open-X and have used it for years. I like it for opening boxes more than anything. I’ve moved many times and always use it for unpacking. It’s safe if it falls, have children running around, have pets etc. I don’t feel the blade sticking out on mine so that may just be a flaw on yours.

Oh man, that bites! Have you tried tin snips (might be known also as pruning shears sometimes). They look really similar to those but usually last really well as they are meant to work outside.
Fiskars is my go-to cutter for everything lol I even use one to trim goat hooves!
You should contact the company and have them add that to one of its uses! That is great will try it on my dogs nails
Wooooo love the channel keep up the great work and stay safe. Happy holidays
This the most important video for the holiday season. These plastic packages are the bane of my Christmas.
I've used the OpenX for a long time, and it's something very good for me, someone who only has one hand that works
Nice! Thanks! I have a Leatherman Rev that actually contains a hooked blade to be used for opening those blister type packages. Works quite well.
Great show! Your hands must be throbbing, after opening those packages. I'm staying with my Boy Scout pocket knife.
I absolutely hate plastic packages! I have endured many nasty ragged cuts from them. I don’t know why products are packaged in this, it’s so bad for the environment! I would buy all of these products, one for every purpose! Love this!
0:36 When you realize that they packaged the package opener in a hard to open package O_O
ALL THE F'ING TIME....
I literally started laughing when I saw that.
I bought the cheapest tin snips I could find.......works GREAT!
That's what I said, totally in agreement!❤️
I am getting to this on 12/19...after I just ordered the Slit it...it was showcased for the first tmie on QVC yesterday....they were sold two at a time...mine should arrive shortly ! Thanks for your demos in all categories...very interesting.. I like the electric one albeit the size.... ~cheers~ !
Second “like”. Merry Christmas. I hope you and your family are safe and happy this holiday season.
Thanks Robert! Have a great holiday season!
@@Freakinreviews nah man
I use a little slicer like you showed at 3:20, and the best feature is the tiny magnet that lets me keep it on the corner of my computer so I can find it every time I need to use it.
I never buy any of this stuff but I just watch them because of his personality.
I like this dude, no homo
Do we still say that?
ive yet to buy the stuff hes highlighted, BUT, some of it has gone on /a list/
the thing about the infomercial space is that the products that exist there do so for a reason. theres always a quirk, or a trick, or some kind of angle they're attacking to break into an established market by hyperspecializing. most times its gimicky junk, but when its not, its often the best god damn thing that exists for solving one very specific problem. so certain things are always in the back of my head, waiting for the day i need to put in that next day delivery.
I hate those things!😠
the product you're in need of is a pair of leather gloves. ; )
Cut all 4 sides off, and it comes apart like a sandwich.
Love your comments ! pray you and your family has a great Christmas 🎄🎁🥰🎄
But slipping while pushing makes the tool move away from you, not at your body which you were pulling towards
The plastic surgeon seems like the guard keeps getting in the way.
Fiskars have never let me down. Own a lot of their bladed products for kitchen, general use and especially gardening, the shears keep an edge on them for what seems like forever
Home depot sells a pair of milwalkee siccors for $20. They cut threw 99% of packages
Cheap mini "amplifiers" for everyone on Christmas!
Welcome to another episode of "Solving a problem that didn't exist" :D
no no this problem actually exists
i've seen people use can openers to open clamshell packaging, I don't have one of those, so never tried it, i like the first one, thank you for the review
I’ll just keep on using scissors.
Yeah I usually use a knife and brute force
"I guess Bailey wants to join me for round two"🤣🤣
The Plastic Surgeon looks like it could surgically cut through an artery or tendon if you’re not careful 🔪
Always push away from yourself.
I think I like the Slit-it being pulled... not exposing your skin to sharp plastic edges... great demo and test.
What kind of sociopath goes straight through the cardboard right off the bat?
Lol, thankfully no cords or anything to get ahold of with these ( I cringe so hard imagining opening delicate electronics with these things 😫)
No one:
Me: waiting for karens to freak out over plastic waste
Happy Christmas James, from my family to yours! 🎄🎅🏻
Do these package openers come in packages? *commence heavy breathing*
Ok, as a parent of 2 I have bought a lot of toys etc with this style packaging. Never once have I thought, "hey I wish there was a dedicated tool for opening these". While I'm sure some of these do the job well; there are many things which I already own which will do just as good.
Lol scissors the best and everyone already has them sooooooo......
New electric can opener we got this year came with a “bottle opener/cutter” like the “Slit It”. Saved us some real hassle this year.
I once used a standard manual can opener on that type of packaging, it actually worked!
I can see the quality of videos getting better, keep it up!
3:18 Your little “slice” doohickey is just like one I bought at Dollar Tree, and that’s what I open clamshell packaging with.
Another product I’ll buy. Thanks !
You make the best videos to watch while baked out of your mind
Great review as always. I wonder if your standard retractable safety blade would work just as well and you wouldn't have to worry about damaging the tip of the blade since they're replaceable
I have the Open-X and have used it for years. I like it for opening boxes more than anything. I’ve moved many times and always use it for unpacking. It’s safe if it falls, have children running around, have pets etc. I don’t feel the blade sticking out on mine so that may just be a flaw on yours.
