@@thehobbymachinistnz It's common for wood turners to soak their blanks in polyethylene glycol (a particularly long chain type, with molecular weight of more than 1000) This is a waxy solid below 40°C but when diluted in water will soak into wood and prevent it from checking and cracking. Turners I know will keep their blanks in a bucket or barrel until use and if multiple sessions required return them to the vat in order to get deeper penetration. Wood carves or turns much better when the cells are full and resilient. I'm somewhat new to your channel and didn't know you had an interest in woodworking, but enjoy the content. 🙂
@@jimurrata6785 Hi Jim, thanks for the clarification. Yes, it is a bit odd. Most of my videos are on metal work, machining and fabrication. But, I have acquired an interest in woodturning lately as well. I have actually joined a woodturners club and I have been learning so much over the last few months. I have brought some 'stuff' they call log sealer from the club. It is a waxy solution that you paint into the end grain where the log was cut so that the log does not loose so much moisture from the cut ends. Maybe this is similar to the PEG?

This diffuses into the cells and keeps them from shrinking.
