I always come to this specific version to hear this song…. The organ, the whole congregation singing, is sooooo beautiful!! A beautiful song about God’s great love for us ❤️
The person that wrote this hymn is Sister Suzanne Toolan, a nun of the Irish order in Burlington, California. This hymn is based on John 6. I see her about once a year at Mercy Center. She is now 91 years old and still playing the piano.
This is also one of my favorite hymns, so suited for Holy Thursday or Communion, the words are very appropriate for this season. I use it for my morning devotions this is so soothing in the mornings and every time I hear it.
I saved this video on TH-cam to a playlist years ago. Helped me through a hard time. Now, New Year’s Day 2024, my father passed away unexpectedly, hit really hard. And this song still brings so much peace and happiness once again. Thank you.
Listening to this in Sydney, Australia. Wonderful singing of this triumphant hymn. What makes this really something is the sense of drama. The descant is really thrilling. Praise the Lord for this !
As a former Director of Music/Organist, I love the procession with the choir- This adds so much to the mass, It makes the people want to sing. The Second thing I enjoy is on the final refrain the Descant the Soprano's are doing. What a beautiful touch!!!! Keep on singing strong!!! -JEK
I’m not a big fan of post Vatican II Liturgical music but this was played just after the Gregorian “In Paradisum” at my dad’s Requiem and it was fitting

The Catholic Church and Catholics have the most beautiful forms of art in songs, along with paintings and sculptures.
This hymn should be used at churches more now than ever.

All my prayers for your father. This was sung at my father's funeral in 1994. It's still as impactful today as it was then. God Bless You.
