I grew up along a northern WI brook trout stream in the early 1970s -- a much slower, lower gradient creek than your mountain streams, but the brookies were just as beautiful. I still get back home to fly fish it once or twice a season, the magic is still there. Thank you for the wonderful video.
Your videos have established a benchmark for what a quality fly fishing series should be all about. But I commend you especially for your conservation messaging - more channels should take your example to heart. Well done!
I have lived in the foothills and at the base of these mountains in NC all my life. I have fished a lot of places. But there is nothing like catching our Native Brookies in their home water. These fish do not live in ugly places. They are a treasure and worth preserving. Back in the 80s we beat up ever stream we saw. I know you are familiar with Boone. I am a local, hit me up sometime for a chat or just swap fishing stories. I'll tell ya this, it ain't like it used to be... Carry on. Enjoy your videos and your take on things. Take care.
Those were some amazing looking Brookies ... and I'm gonna agree with you about the colors on those Native Homegrown Brookies as being most beautiful looking Brookies of all. Thank you again for your persistence, expertise and for the video ! 👍☺
Oh man, what incredibly gorgeous fish! It’s hard to imagine a higher level of beauty. That intense red color, the magenta spots, the orange fins…that Appalachian gem in that priceless solitude of a unique virtually pristine environment. How fortunate you are man for living such blissful fishing moments. The footage is superbly filmed. Those close ups of the fish…that image of them mating…great!v
Thoroughly enjoyed your California series, but these vids of native brook trout in their beautiful natural habitat are unrivalled. Never been to the US, but you do a brilliant job of promoting the Appalachians. and when I finally make it across the Pond, that is where I will head.
Back in seventies I was fishing the right fork of Deep Creek for these beauties had many great trips to Smokies fishing for Brookies and Browns great video but you have to be there to experience all of trip.
What a fantastic place full of beautiful fish. Unless it's a closely guarded secret it would be nice to see a picture of that beatle fly. You really are a master of casting.
Wish we had brookies here in Scotland. Such a gorgeous trout species. That's our brown trout season ended here. Starts back up in march. Onto the grayling over winter. Another beautiful fish. Love fishing for graylin and give you such a good fight with that big top fin. Like a sail in the current
Awesome I live in Nicholas County and most likely fish some of these same streams. And yes the Appalachian native brook trout is definitely the most beautiful fish in the world.💯 Keep on fishing bro.😎🤟🎣
Another great video! It's time for you to have your own show on The Outdoor Channel. Seriously, the filming, and especially the narration, is as good as anything you find there.
Just found your videos and I’m loving them! 1 tip is if you cover both the trout’s eyes for 4-5 seconds, the fish will go to sleep, which makes the hook removal and any “showing off” (😁) so much easier
That's a clever little thing I noticed you wiggle the rod on the retrieve and that must slightly jerk the flys to tempt a bite, I've done similar stuff slightly pulls of the fly line at sharp small movements to make the fly twitch but I never thought of letting the rod do that so I'll keep that in mind.
I've got a beautiful old split cane fly rod that can go from 6ft to 10ft inter changeable lengths,.anyway it's got a beautiful tiny reel and I can't believe I found it at the local dump were people leave things others might want cuz I checked out the value and the rod was £200 and the reel £90 and that was starting prices, anyway have you ever used old gear or split any rods and vintage reels?? I'm honestly too scared of doing any damage to the one I found so I've put it on display instead lol. Great trout videos as always 👌 👏
I’d really be interested to know what camera gear and editing program you use. Such sharp footage and saturated colors! Native brookies are THE most beautiful fish and it’s not even close. Love your channel!
Man those colours are incredible! Completely respect if it's not something your into sharing but if you're happy to share I would love to know details on rod specs, which line your using, why you chose them etc... Again completely understand if that's not your thing.
Ventures Fly Co is a great site... I've ordered many flies from LL Bean and Orvis... and they're great... my wife bought me some collections from Ventures Fly Co last Christmas and they have a great selection. There's a start... but there are many places to order them... just look into what flies work best in your area. Calling a Fly Shop can help.
Were you fishing in an old-growth forest? Much of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was clear-cut before the land was purchased and made into the Park. The resulting rise in water temps and runoff pretty much wiped out the native brookies. The Park Service has been trying to restore the brookie population for years.
@@smctrout4423 Yeah I'm not sure how they did, It may not have all been clear cut at the same time. A lot of the areas I fish have great connectivity so usually if one stream gets wipes out by the fish do eventually come back.
Can someone suggest the best beginner fly rod/reel combo? I keep seeing the Orvis Clearwater combo mentioned as a good option. I'm new to fly fishing and will need a rig that can hit the north GA, NC streams as well as FL freshwater.
There is "no best." Orvis Clearwater is a very good starter rod/reel... I own lots of different rods/reels (I'm a gear junkie so I can't stop buying them)... I have my favorites, but it's really just a personal thing... fly shops are good at letting you cast rods at the store... pick a set-up that just feels right. Your cast/presentation is what really makes the difference.
I think color and size have more to do with it then anything, lately ive caught a few browns on a black wulff size 14 and brookies on a olive foam caddis size 16. But in my area outside of a few small (and i mean size 22) mayfly hatches its more about terrestrials then anything. Could also do a dry dropper combo with either a hares ear or pheasant tail.
It depends I've learned and always been told to observe things around you before you choose a fly see what kind of insects are around the water or falling in. I was fishing last weekend with a random fly and noticed massive amounts of these red looking bugs swarming the water and the were rising grabbing them so I swapped to a smaller red fly and immediately caught one
Wassup dude, I started fly fishing last year and have caught some sizeable bass and trout, I do prefer trout fly fishing more than bass, love the channel, maybe I could get pinned??

I am so glad there is still "Trout Fishing in America." Another wonderful angling experience. Thank you.

I’m glad you enjoyed!
I totally agree.
Beautiful! You should start a thing like "go fishing for a day With the Hardman's" everybody will pay to go fishing with you or Andrew!
I know I would
Especially considering how ripped they get..
That’d be so cool
I am going to agree with you. When I dream of trout fishing in a stream or creek, these are the beauties I dream of catching. Thanks HFA!

The parr marks plus the coloration on that last fish were insane! Absolutely beautiful.

I love brook trout fishing in the fall! It is honestly the best time to get someone on some fish that have never caught a trout. Nice video, man.

Very nice! Pretty water!
I think you should make a series of fishing just for brook trout. It would be a killer series and a fun one to watch! Keep up the good work.
Another stunning video. They are the most beautiful fish ever. Thank you again for your talent and hard work.
Thank you for watching!
I love fishing for native brook trout in the Appellation Mountains as well.
Appalachian ** but thank you!

Yep! I try to let the rod do the work.
Love the enthusiasm!!!
Love the vids just went brook trout fishing as-well!
Awesome Fishery! Enjoyed😀👍
Glad you enjoyed!
Another awesome video as usual! Keep up the great work, tight lines…
Thank you!
Great video those brookies sure are beautiful
Just great. Thanks.
Awesome video, I caught my first native brookies last Sunday, it was amazing!!!, biggest ones I caught were 6-7 inches.
That’s still awesome!! Congrats!
My favorite time of year to fish.
You and me both
Some gorgeous fish! 😍 I struggled to catch brookies this year. The water was low making it very difficult in the small brook trout streams
We actually had pretty good water this year where I’m at!
Mega nice Bro greetings from Austria
Amazing natives! Doesn't get any better than that. That trail in the beginning looked very familure, wasn't it in a previous video?
I’m not sure, I don’t think so. A lot of these trails look the same 😂
First!!!
Love the fish bro
Great video, I still think you guy's make the best out there!
Thank you for the kind words!!

No I don't believe anywhere I've fished is considered old growth, almost all of it was clear cut back probably 100 years ago give or take.
@@hardmanfishing It's amazing that the ancestors of those brookies survived the clear-cuts.
@@smctrout4423 Yeah I'm not sure how they did, It may not have all been clear cut at the same time. A lot of the areas I fish have great connectivity so usually if one stream gets wipes out by the fish do eventually come back.

What net is that?
I’m gonna need those coordinates! 😂
Hahaha 🤣 yeah yeah I’m sure you’ve never been!!
Wondering as someone who is fairly new to fly fishing, what flies do you typically use during this time of autumn in smaller creeks like this one?
I think color and size have more to do with it then anything, lately ive caught a few browns on a black wulff size 14 and brookies on a olive foam caddis size 16. I’ve got a soft spot for brookies. My picture is a native Maine Brook trout
Can you do a gear review video
Best time of the year, from the day after labor day to the Start of Rifle Deer Season. The cycle starts anew.
Ya gotta chase those Michigan Native brookies. Arguably comparable or better colors on the Michigan natives.
I will for sure one day!!
I am 2 hours and driving to a brown trout stream wish me luck!!
Wassup dude, I started fly fishing last year and have caught some sizeable bass and trout, I do prefer trout fly fishing more than bass, love the channel, maybe I could get pinned??
those are big brook trout
What stream? I'm from VA and fished a bit in college in VA streams but have lived in CA for the past 25 years or so. Just curious.
Hi
Man I live in the foothills of the Appalachians, where is this river??
Where are you?
my favorite fish! not actually a trout
