The problem with the border is not at the border!
There is a problem that so many people need to abandon their countries to survive. If the US is really a superpower, then should it not get involved with their plight? There is also a problem with entities in the US that attract border crossers - they give crossers a destination and reason to come here. Why is that okay and fine with the border security movement? Why are self proclaimed patriots not calling employers of crossers traitors? Drugs are also a problem, but likewise, no one is addressing the demand for the drugs. It has a root cause.
Migration is a brief event in a border crosser's life, and the border is just a line on a map. To address the problem, you need to look at the crossers' whole situation and life. Get your heads out of the sand!
So we should do WHAT, allow anybody in the world to just come here, no questions asked? What will life be like in a nation of 7 Billion people?

No one is saying that we just "allow anyone in the world to come here, no questions asked".
Did you know that the bulk of the so-called "undocumented" immigrants are actually documented. The overwhelming majority of immigrants that cross the southern border turn themselves in to the first person of authority they find, be it border patrol, local law enforcement of whatever. The first thing they do after turning themselves in is ask for either refugee status or asylum. Once they do this they are legally in the country and they become documented.
At this point one of 2 things can happen.
One, if they have a criminal record in the United States or if they have previously been deported they can either be arrested for illegally returning the country after being deported, which is a felony, or they can be deported again.
Two, if neither of the above applies, they are processed and given a court date. Before any of these people can be deported they must get a legally mandated deportation hearing to ascertain whether they qualify for refugee status or asylum. If they qualify the government takes the appropriate action. If they don't qualify or if they are otherwise ineligible they will be sent back to their country of origin.
This is all done according to current laws. If you don't agree with this process I suggest you start riding your local representative and senator and tell them to change the laws.

I have a solution. Put a passport office on the Mexican side, everyone coming in can do so as a visitor, the same way we do when visiting Mexico or Canada. The original republican argument was that undocumented people could be just about anyone, and they were worried about terrorists. So, fix the law regarding documents. And tell them if they don’t want immigrants, change the damned law.
