    Thank you sooo much man!
    Your videos helped me and encouraged me to replace the chain myself and I did it!

    Timing chains are supposed to last the life of a car. Anytime honda or toyota put timing chains in their engine they are pretty much good. The rest of the car falls apart first before the engine.
    BMW and german cars in general on the other hand, your tyres will probably last longer than the chains. What a farce.

    Apparently it's easier to replace it on BMW than Mini and Peugeot because of the way of the engine placement. Otherwise the engine is the same as Mini and Peugeot/Citroen.

    Hi Jani, thanks a lot for your videos. They are very very usefull. I have an F20 118i auto from 2013 and will do some maintenance with your videos. Now it has 102000Km. Major problems : false alarm from expansion tank and oil consuption. I saw you resolve oil consuption with valve steam covers replacement.....but before trying that i will change valve cover: notice some little oil leaking all over edges and spark plugs are a bit wet with oil.....my question : why didn’t you put loctite seal product all around in metal edges? Thanks again for your educational vids.

      Mine use about 1 litre at 2500km… replaced already the pcv membrane valve etc, but stil some oil inside the inlet. Should i replace the complete valve cover? Couldnt find any cracks

      @@Jokesxxl Try other oil! 0W40 or 5W40 with BMW LL01 worked fine for me. Now it needs 1 Liter oil on 10.000 km. The "recommended" 5-30 LL04 (which is designed for Diesel-Engines) is burning up on the pistons since oil-temp is already sitting around 115-130°C. Same reason the oil looks tarish after 2000-3000 km.

    • @Jokesxxl
      @Jokesxxl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@currysini85 yes i replaced 1 month ago the oil with Liqui Moly 5W40 top tec 4100. Oil consumption is now 0.3liter @ 2000km! Car has done 139.000km. The only thing what doesn’t make clear for me is that the fuel consumption and power is better with 95 e10 than on 98 e5 fuel. The car is tuned to 225HP.

    • @currysini85
      @currysini85 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Jokesxxl I use the same oil! Will get even better, when the piston rings are cleaning up again 😉. Mine is around 140.000 km with the same Stage 1. Now the chain seems to need a replacement.

    Hey man, thanks for the videos, I really enjoy them. I have a question, though: is the position of the VVT on the camshaft important? I lock the crankshaft and camshaft precisely as you show, but I am not sure if it will work when I try to put it back.

      It is worth changing in good time. My car has been driven about 160 tkm and it had broken like in the video th-cam.com/video/_dZ6cuqy69A/w-d-xo.html
      Easy to change, and no expensive investment. I can't say the exact kilometer limit, but I know it's worth changing in good time! 😉

    Hello friend, I have a problem with my mechanical BMW 114i 2014 N13 1.6 turbo engine. The car vibrates and has no power when driving, an unstable relationship. I changed the injectors, the pressure can pump, we tuned the car, new spark plugs, new coils and the problem remains the same. Have you ever experienced a similar problem?

    • @JaniVoutilainen
      @JaniVoutilainen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Timing chain set is bmw original set. There is other brands with good quality cheapr prices that you can use if you want 👍.
      Used old chain tensioner, becouse I want to show and compare elognation with new chain vs old chain in previous videos. Its recomended, that you tighten chain tensioner once.

    Hy Jani,
    Thanks for the video .. two questions if you may ..
    1. I see that are for sale timing kits with and without the inlet/outlet camshafts (11367545862 / 11367536085). (The difference in price is quite considerable between the two)
    A worn chain doesn't affect in time also the camshaft wearing it ? ... (wearing the teeth). When would be recommended to also change the camshafts?
    2. Do you have any recommendation for a specific kit manufacturer ? In my country VAICO sells a full kit with camshafts .. next in quality/price would be FEBI Bilstein (without the camshafts)
    Thanks in advance

    BMW wäre ein gutes Auto wenn in ihren Motoren nicht so ein schlechter Dichtgummi und sehr schlechter Kunststoff verwendet würde.

    There's a special place in hell for just about every single N series BMW engine. N12, N13, N14, N16, N18, and the twin turbo N54 engine are all garbage. I don't care about the tuning potential of the N54, it's trash and belongs in the dump. I did oil changes on my N18 every 3000 miles with a filter change, and did every other service you could ask for. Changed the PCV valve just as preventative maintenance, changed coolant at 95k miles, changed both front and rear brakes recently, and changed my spark plugs at 100k miles. Despite that, the car was leaking oil from the oil filter housing, it started a new vacuum leak from the valve cover, the EVAP system started failing despite no wiring issues and not having any EVAP leaks, the Airbag system was failing from god knows where, the timing chain tensioner failed at 104k miles despite the whole assembly being replaced at 70k miles, and the engine now has misfire issues when trying to give it anymore than a quarter throttle.
