I spent many years fishing the harbors and having 100+ fish days with many over 16". The last decade of heavy tournament pressure has killed those days. So many keeper bass pulled out of East harbor and weighed and released in West harbor. I've really noticed the quality and quantity of bass in East harbor has diminished greatly but still a fun place to kayak as long as you are good with Northern watersnakes😀. Another great video, looks like you are living life to the fullest
I need to fish West more, I just hardly ever get a chance to fish one place multiple times… I booked so many tournaments that is all I have time for now… so I keep going back to East to try to dig deeper and learn more. I can’t believe I caught 5 pike and didn’t lose a single lure! 🤣
Nice bass! Yes East Harbor fills up fast. I booked 3 months in advance and barely got in for labor day weekend. If you go mid May, you walk right in. There's a kayak launch by the birding trail , off the right side parking lot on the road to the beach. Black/white Mr twister or zoom shad swimbaits does good by casting parallel of the rock walls.
Thanks! This weekend really reset my attitude since I had been on a bit of a mental downslide over tournament failures... but this weekend reminded me to just go out and enjoy the challenge of finding fish!
You are so damn funny, you make me laugh, it is all about the beautiful experiences! But you... lady can catch fish! I am in WNY real near Lake Erie, I need to give it a try. I have the lynx and I was concerned the boat wakes the most, but not so much now, it is like a surboard. Keep fishing and smiling, because it made me smile before the office this gorgeous August day!.
Aw thanks! This was the first time in a while that I let myself relax and fun fish, and it was a good lesson learned! Can’t be all work, have to remember to enjoy! I have such faith in my Lynx and have never once doubted the stability in any condition I’ve encountered, but people keep telling me their flipping stories (mostly bigger guys leaning over the side to reach for something), so make sure you are prepared for the worst if you hit the big lake! Oh also, the Lynx is even more invisible than most kayaks, so I’m working on how to fix that. I almost got run over at East Harbor by a bass boat who didn’t see me til the last minute, and then said “holy crap that was a kayak!”. I ordered the YakAttack flag extender to raise my flag up, and I’m going to tie more orange stuff wherever I can. Plan for all contingencies, then go have fun!
Nice flag, good idea, especially when I am out on the Estero bay at fort myers beach FL, I mostly stay close to shore and in little coves. BUT, I here you gals, I am more worried about the damn speeding boats/wakes, than the Sharks below me!
I started really small and built up to this! I still have panic moments, but not nearly as much as it used to be… two years ago I was in a panic attack basically the whole time I was on the water, last year was better but I was still totally freaked out about half of the time. This year it has been such a relief that the panic moments are few and far between… maybe one or two a tournament now. I actually have more time when I am just focused on the fishing and not freaking out about anything! Maybe you can team up with the hubby to see if you can be comfortable enough to enjoy it together. :)
@@GirlGoneFishing thanks! I'm not a water baby, so definitely small steps. Jeff's met you at the tournaments. He had a knee replaced in May, but is going full force now. 👍😄
I completely understand! Oh cool, now that I'm over the panic more, I'm going to really start trying to learn the names of everyone I fish with! You probably get it... it is hard to remember names when you are convinced the Lake Monster is going to flip you at any minute. 🤣
I haven’t really fished Erie itself beyond just following the shoreline, our tournaments are on Erie East/West Harbors. A really good person to talk to about fishing Lake Erie would be Chuck Earls, he is a kayak fishing guide up on Erie and is very nice and generous with his knowledge and expertise. You can find him on facebook in the group Lake Erie Kayak Fishing and send him a message.
The recent 'day four' with Frank Scalish ep. 82, looked at fishing the tough lake subject (Frank's thing was to record exactly what one is doing, in terms of depth working, area working. And he emphasized the use of the paper map too. As an assistance to making a strategy. It seems to hinge a lot, on having good knowledge of your baits fishing depth. They will swim at (given the size or type of line you string up too). Some anglers do get deep baits to run a bit shallow, using larger line diameter. Frank though seemed to divide up lake in both dimensions. Depth range and area. And keeping a careful record of the same, after each practice outing.
On the tour at iCast 2022, the Hook Up Tackle guys in Arizona. They had a look at the new Jackall compact buzz baits and jig lures. I think a lot of those too, might be suited to casting from the kayak platform, versus the boat. Where kayaks tend to get closer to structure and shorelines than boats would. And in kayak, one isn't fishing as fast down a piece of water. As the guys using the boats and trolling motors will do. They had a look at some of the Senko type lures at the Yamamoto stand later on in their Expo tour.
Thank you for another fun video. I enjoy them so much.
Aww thanks! I appreciate the kind words! :)

Nice fish! Looked like a really fun time in the kayak too!
Thanks, Maya! You know I love those sunrises on the water! :)

I saw you going by my campground/marina, I mentioned your channel to some people👍
Oh cool, thanks! :)

Fun time! Wish I was brave enough to do this, living through my hubby who just started this year!

I fished east harbor 2 weeks ago. All fish were caught in the grass. I fished a belly weighted hook with a 3.8inch swimbait and killed them.
They do like those soft plastic swimbaits there!
Great video! I'm planning a trip up to erie later this spring(first time) ...any advice?

I don’t even like mowing my own grass!
Hahaha I can totally see you riding the water mower… all “yee haw” and stuff…
